You're still thinking in extremes. You can both lead a "regular life" and pursue your passions. They're not opposites. It's hard, but it's the best way to go around things. Most of the time the passionate ones that pursue a dream already had a secure base to work from, which is often not mentioned in any inspirational "success story" you hear. The dream of actually making it big is what keeps regular joes going, hoping that one day they'll be able to stop.
But it's just a dream. Even if you're a single guy, unless you don't have any parents, you'll end up hurting them when you risk everything and fail and end up having to go back to living with them.
