A few of the weirder events (like John being the Messiah, and Sinestro's execution destroying the Corps at one point) were just retconned away without a fuss. This sounds nice and dandy but you have to remember the "5-year timeline" shit they were trying to push for a while. That compression makes a lot of the history pretty weird. For instance, Kyle's past 2 girlfriends don't exist anymore, his 2 best friends don't exist anymore, his father figure is gay and on another Earth, and he never joined the League because they don't know who he is.
