One thing to remember is that Doom is an antagonist while Batman is a protagonist. Invulnerable, iron-willed, master-of-all trades Doom isn't really a bad thing, because, as antagonist, he exists as a threat - he is something to be fought against, an overwhelming force to be reckoned with.

Batgod on the other hand is pretty bad because it removes all tension if your protagonist seems objectively superior to all things under the sun. I'm not a gigantic fan of either character, but overplaying Doom's abilities is far more preferable than overplaying Batman's.

Doom without Richards loses a core aspects of his characterization, his pettiness and his inferiority complex. The fundamental reason why Richards and Doom are such good enemies is that Reed doesn't care about Victor. Reed's got a family, a job, and science adventures to worry about, Victor is just someone who pops in every now and then to hassle him. And Victor can't stand that. Victor spends his time developing new schemes and plots to destroy the FF and take over the world, Reed stops those plots and schemes then goes back to his real work.

Thanos is not someone that you can ignore, no matter how much you're powerful. Their confrontation was at par. Even Doom it came out great. In that situation he had nothing else to do but GTFO Thanos from the crossover.

Reed's an all around asshole that ignores his family, and practices science that often results in disaster, he's a villain if I ever saw one.

No vagina. I mean right, Iron Man, yeah? He'd build one. Cap? He'd try to have one in spirit. Thor? He'd get you so drunk you'd think he had a vagina, or maybe he'd get Loki to magic one onto him for the night. And that's just the heroes.

Villains? You've got Purple Man, he'd convince you he had one, you've got Ultron, he'd build one, you've got Venom, he'd literally become a physical woman by shapeshifting.

Doom? Doom's just a prick.
>>
>>78079843
Let's see

>Egotistical supergenius
>Single minded rival of a certain superhero dedicating his life to defeating
>Builds super advanced technology and gadgets all the time
>Often plays the good guy when it suits him
>Wealthy leader
>known to wear green power armor
>Commonly fucks with god like entities and aliens
>Outwits the greatest minds in the universe
>Has become a godlike entity several times in the past

Yea, Doom is a poor man's Lex masquerading as the "cool" antihero. Meanwhile Lex triumphs over the most powerful hero in the setting time and time again.

Not to mention being a household name and appearing in lots and lots of media for decades helps too. Doom can at best be that shitty villain in a shitty movie that nobody liked.
>>
>>78078574
#7 according to Google. Thanks.
>>
>>78073250

Doom trying to pass off a failure as his own plan all along is totally in his character, though. S'what he has airing on his propaganda throughout Latveria every time he loses to Richards.
>>
>>78080165
Luthor never became godlike, he always screws it up before he can enjoy real powers because he is a retard.
Doom hasn't been a singleminded nemesis to Richards for decades now. His plans are always more grand than that.
Lex was president and fucked that up, again, and got his ass kicked and exposed like the prick he is. Doom is loved in Latveria and even when he became leader of the world he was still loved.
Doom never plays the good guy, even if it suits him. He helps when it's in common will, but he doesn't pretend, he doesn't act. That's beneath him.
Doom fought Gods but what differs him from Lex is that he won.
Doom is a sorcerer as much as he is a science genius. He fights demons and wizards and knows how to use magic. Lex only knows how to use kryptonite for everything.
Doom is not a villain and is no lunatic. He wants power but once he has them he'll fight for the earth and crush any actual villains. Lex had that chance but always comes back to being a retard that hates superheroes and ruins everything by picking fights with them.

Doom is so far from Lex that they can't even be compared. Lex is manlet with an endless inferiority complex.
>>
>>78080165
You realize that Doom is much more of a household name than Lex, right?

I mean, I don't really care which is the better character, because they can both be great or awful depending on the writer, but Dr. Doom is easily one of the most iconic villains of all time. He inspired Darth Vader, he epitomizes the cloaked dark lord, he's pretty much the archetypal supervillain at this point - even if filmmakers can't seem to get him right. You ask a casual to name supervillains and they are far more likely to list Doom than Lex.
>>
>>78080441
>You realize that Doom is much more of a household name than Lex, right?

Sorry anon, no he isn't. Doom is only known among comic fans and online as that random hooded guy in comic/scifi threads.

Lex has appeared in movies and tv shows since the early 60's and is world known as Superman's nemesis. Not that many even know the name Mr Fantastic much less what he is about or where he is from.
>>
>>78080441
>Lex Luthor=That bald guy who fights Superman all the time in every movie. Was the real star of Smallville! Gene Hackman!

>Doom is a 90's game
>Doom is a shitty movie starring the Rock
>Doom is the name of every cartoon villain ever
>Doom is that electric guy in those really horrible superhero movies from 2005
>Or is he that Iron Man ripoff guy in a green dress? I forget....because he is pretty damn forgettable

Out of interest, I just tried asking a bunch of my casual friends to name ten supervillains. Here are the names they gave me:

>Dirty Engineering Student Friendo
Joker.
Doctor Doom.
Mandarin.
Magneto.
Penguin.
Riddler.
Sandman.
Snowfire (the fuck?).
Loki.
Green Goblin.

>Dirty Chinaman Friendo
Doctor Doom.
Green Goblin.
Venom.
Joker.
Kingpin.
Harley Quinn.
Poison Ivy.
Galactus.
Mr. Freeze.
Loki.

>Dirty CompSci Friendo
Loki.
Doctor Doom.
Kingpin.
Bullseye.
Magneto.
Harley Quinn.
Joker.
Doctor Octopus.
Mr. Sinister.
Poison Ivy.

>Dirty Physics Friendo
Venom.
Doctor Doom.
Magneto.
Riddler.
Joker.
Harley Quinn.
Loki.
Bane.
Kilgrave.
Green Goblin.

>Dirty Physics Friendo II
Joker.
Mr. Freeze.
Poison Ivy.
Slade.
Doctor Doom.
Magneto.
(couldn't name anymore off the top of his head)

Kinda interesting, though obviously a tiny sample size. I may ask more people.

Lex got no magic. He'd just end up being Doom's fucktoy.

Doom's got the magic in him. Everything he touches turns into schemes. Everybody knows he's got the magic in him. When Doom hits the floor the F4 come snapping at him. They all want a blast of that magic (especially Sue).
>>
>>78081607
atleast it's more understandable. A human fighting againts a super powerful alien with OP powers. Doom shouldn't care about Richard. He has his own country, his people love him and he's second only to Strange in terms of magic.
