Superman has become far more than the DC character. Moreso than any other comic character he's become a symbol/idea more than a character comprised of the sum of his stories. Because of this you can refer to "Superman" or even specifics about him "kryptonite", "red cape", etc. without even explicitly talking about the DC character.
The song "The End is the Beginning is the End" by the Smashing Pumpkins, aka the original version of that sick song from the Watchmen trailer, is actually literally written about Batman, because it was a promotional song for the movie Batman & Robin.
Which explains why the lyrics seem to fit the Watchmen trailer so well.
Also kind of sad that such a dark and serious song was attached to the silliest and most colorful Batman movie.
I've even heard Flash and Green Lantern songs.
