I let it slide with Margaret, because in the beginning it seemed like she was just supposed to be that unobtainable girl that Mordecai admired from a far - but the more focus she got it was annoying she had no personality. Eileen seemed like she might be more interested, and in Do Me A Solid she was, but then she turned into a literal self-insert and was completely uninteresting. I agree. While it's good to see Rigby and Eileen having a much better relationship that Mordecai and Margaret/CJ, I've found Eileen herself pretty boring since they made her less weird and more desirable.

Rigleen is cute, and certainly more boring than anything Mordecai has been involved in because it is just too happy and perfect. I want to see some real conflict between the two that has to be overcome.
Rigby hasn't had a moment like Mordecai where he was really at his lowest, and that needs to happen. Because right ow, Rigby only ever does things to please others, including changing so that Eileen might like him more. He is utterly dependent on Mordecai and Eileen, not a good quality for a main character to have, and that the show seems to gloss over this fact is really a pity. Likewise, remember how jealous and possessive he was over Mordecai? This negative quality hasn't been shown in his relationship with Eileen yet, because, conveniently, there don't seem to be other people she is hanging out with, despite apparently everyone in town knowing and being on good terms with her.
In fact, the show kind of seems to try to come up with excuses for Rigby's inappropriate behavior in the first seasons way after the fact, when his backstory explains, but doesn't excuse that behavior. And he is constantly let of easily as well. Ruining his friend's life twice just so he will stay with hi, and then getting away with it because Mordecai takes pity on him.
Also, I think that Mordecai had just the bad luck to have to be the main character in a relationship arc that started from a premise that originally had no intention to be long running in a show that wasn't certain when it would end. If you look at the first two seasons now, you can kinda tell they didn't expect the show to have more than two seasons, hence why there is no continuity as it has now.

Which I think kind of underlines that the show struggles with the realistic relationships it's trying to write. Eileen conveniently never mentioned whether she still was in contact with Margaret. Mordecai not doing it because he is too anxious makes sense, but Margaret is still her best friend, and the show not elaborating on that is a missed opportunity for establishing character and relationship continuity imo.
In a recent interview, Quintel and Szeles I think were asked what they think about how Mordecai and Rigby's fortune seems to have changes, which they agreed is weird and "a natural direction of the show". But season 7 so far has been pretty great so far for both of them. Mordecai is happy having Margaret as a gal pal, and Rigby is happy with Eileen while occasionally struggling in his self-worth in relation towards her.

I think that's one of my pet peeves with Rigleen - it basically just took any sort of character development for Rigby and threw it out the window. His character was pretty abruptly neutered, and I would have found it more interesting if he started to mature because someone (likely Mordecai) called him out on his immature, co-dependant, bullshit. Of course, I expected Rigby to equally calling Mordecai out on the full extent of his betaness.
