Tony Stark used to deal with mecha contracts for the government but bailed to make mecha that betters the lives of the average man. When mecha based terrorism breaks out, Nick Fury calls on him to be a part of a new team of mecha pilots and also supply them with unique mecha in their battles.
Rogers was a top notch mecha pilot from two wars ago who went MIA during the final battle. In reality, his mecha life-support systems combined with the surrounding environment, perfectly preserved him at the peak of abilities. He's later revived to be an Avenger.
Thor is the prince of northern kingdom whose economy is based on mining the power source used in most mecha. After discovering a new, concentrated form of that power, he's been wielding it in his mecha to defend his people from terrorism.
Bruce Banner is a mecha engineer who developed a new piloting system that connects directly to the nervous system of the pilot for better reaction time, fluid movements, and more powerful maneuvers. Unfortunately, it has the side-effect of recoiling on the nervous system, driving the pilot of episodes of madness. Being that he's the only one whose successfully piloted the system without dying, he's also been recruited in his Hulk mecha.
