Where's everyone?
I'm gonna start adding cloud bubbles to the words to help the speech stand out more. what you chumps think
And here I thought the dewd was bad at making these threads. Sage.
>>78022726
You probably mean Res Nullius. They are the sole survivors of space genocide/war though.

And that should be:
> How's Your Webcomic /hyw/ #217
and not a tripcode.
Wow.
People fuck up the threads every single time when I'm not the one making them.
>>78023629
I was literally begged last time to do it and it was dead for a whole day last time. All I did was forget the number. At least I had some nice music.
Fun with bloody bits!
I'm scanning today's inks, pages should be up in a few hours.
Inking some pages. Wish I didn't have work n' school.
>>78024665
> hand lettering
Damn, you're a brave man. Great stuff.
>>78024665
Do you have a tumblr?
>>78024703
I looked him up, found it
(hope he doesn't mind)
http://taleofjaspergold.tumblr.com/
>>78024693
I was never fond of computer lettering my comics. It feels like such a stark contrast to the art. That and I'm a masochist. But thank you.
>>78024703

I going to soft-retcon my last story and explain his "hand-gun". Also, You get to meet all of his brothers, He got 25 brothers that was birth by the same Asian mother.
>>78024765
>I was never fond of computer lettering my comics. It feels like such a stark contrast to the art. That and I'm a masochist. But thank you.
Hand lettering done well is miles better than digital. There's something about having perfectly identical letters that just doesn't work, even when people make custom fonts from their handwriting. It's great to see someone pull it off in a webcomic.
Finished inking another page. I need to get myself over to staples so I can scan these for color soon.
>>78025428
You'd be better off without those two first speech bubbles in that last panel. The joke is already there and doesn't need dialogue to aid it. "Send help" should stay.
>>78025428
>>78025862
And maybe in the third panel the eyeball shouldn't be seen and maybe have her mouth hidden behind her hands so the reveal is even more sudden.
>>78025862
>>78025899
A bit late now isnt it.
I can digitally remove the speech bubbles but I cant do much else...unless I totally redo panel 3.
>>78025933
Yeah, sorry I didn't see it before but I'm just offering my two cents. I think just removing the speech bubbles are fine enough.
Does anyone have any tips for keeping proportions consistent?
Obviously, there's the "head" method, but that falls apart if you're trying to do dynamic poses.
Most artists seem to be able to eyeball it but whenever I try I'm terribly inconsistent without measure everything.
>>78025428
>>78023843
Website link, NOW! ...please...
>>78025966
indifferentsocks.tumblr.com
>>78025946
I'll make a separate panel 3 on another paper and see how it goes.
>>78025951
It's easy on the computer if you're using photoshop or any other art program with layers. When I do a picture I do a presketch of all characters and make sure they at least have the same proportions. Anything from previous pages I copy the presketch layer from those and bring them over.
It also helps that you can resize layers so if you want to check proportions with another figure that's a different size you can resize your other sketch.
>>78025951
Head method is best, after you master that, eyeballing it is easy.
>>78025951
I do head, ribcage and hips first for any given pose. Limbs based off of that once I've got them in place. e.g. elbows would reach the base of the ribcage, hands to the crotch.
Then again I'm not very good.
Well the end of this year will be the end of a lot of things. I'm dropping one of my comics and will likely stop doing Fanart Friday. The good news is that the other comic will be updating twice a week sometime in January.
This way I can focus more on one comic like I initially wanted. Still, it's sad to cut stuff. But I can't handle the stress and disappointment.
This also means I deal with one artist.
>>78022613
this is not cool man :'(
please stop
>>78026025
As an alternative opinion, I think it's fine the way it is, as being a 4 panel gag it runs Set up - Development - Punchline - Escalation.
Moving the Punchline to panel 4 would mean having an extra, superfluous, Development panel.
>>78026186
Yeah, end of the year.
About time people start doing those "one year of progress" charts, with example pics from each month.
Don't know if I'll do that this year. I skipped last year too.
>>78026400
I disagree. Having someone point out the joke isn't funny. At the very least, that part has to go. It's obvious and doesn't need it.
>>78026460
I dunno, man, if you saw that you'd probably ask too.
>>78026186
Are we still doing weekly line art?
>>78026516
It's about delivering the punchline better. Buckley does the same thing in that he adds lines in the last panel when they aren't necessary.
>>78026546
As of now... sadly, no. I need to organize everything but I appreciate the work you did.
>>78026651
OK.
>>78026460
Disagree all you want, you're wrong. The joke is well formatted.
>>78026751
Can't argue with this logic. You got me.
>>78023629
youd better make them then
this being this late is pretty sad, considering how much recycled material it has.. but if we'd had a thread last night at least i could have posted it then
at least this relieves my worry that some people unfamiliar with old stuff would be unsatisfied with the timetravel mission not showing its results.. thought of some bits to put in to show what it accomplished..
and then just to balance it out, some shit that's meaningless EXCEPT to people familiar with the old stuff.
the pirate cap'n was originally going to be saying that to the crab, but he turned out facing the camera. i think that's even funnier. though in retrospect this guy in a top hat and pointy shoes that I designed 13 years ago doesnt remotely look like a pirate, aside from the steering wheel.
so yeah this all came together better than I planned
>>78026751
Thank you for defending me but I'm going to remove the dialogue.
>>78026922
You though, dont compare me to Buckley. I dont think Im that bad.
>>78024665
work and school and still doing a comic of this quality
heroic
>>78026979
>You though, dont compare me to Buckley. I dont think Im that bad.
I was talking about joke delivery because that's what reminded me of him. And yes he does the exact same thing.
>Here's the punchline
>And the characters are providing commentary on that joke
>>78027047
It's not like its specific to him. Buckley is bad for many reasons not just his poor joke delivery.
>>78025951
I just do it by hand in the sketch phase.. compare, even copy and compare if necessary.. stretch or widen or unstretch or unwiden limbs til it looks right
>>78026103
that's how i do it. There's no easy way to do legs with that but it's at least a good way to 'proofread' your proportions
>>78027074
Yeah, it's something a lot of gag comic writers do but Buckley is infamous for it to the point where people edit his comics to improve the joke delivery.Of course that's all second to something he's infamous for.
>>78027139
Yeah it's a really bad habit he has that shows a bad understanding of humor
But that doesn't mean nobody should EVER do a 4-paneler with the punchline in the 3rd and escalation in the 4th. If you don't do it constantly, it's a fun surprise
and in this case she's so PROUD of her mouth that that adds a secondary joke
>>78027190
There are alternatives. Different ways to tell a joke. Maybe even have a secondary gag in case the first one isn't enough.
I know some people don't like funny reactions in the last panel but if pulled off well they can work.
>>78027485
That was actually one of the original versions I had thumbed out and I didn't personally like it. Its the kind of thing thats works fine for other people but its not very me I guess.
>>78027598
This was the other. The one I was initially talking about.
>>78027620
I got that one loud and clear. I'll draw new panels on another paper and see how it goes.
>>78027690
I also noticed how small the head is. That's a child, isn't it?
>>78027485
yeah I don't think that's an improvement.. It's sort of redundant.
>>78027620
though this is pretty okay. i think the original is fine as-is
>>78027755
It's someone who ate her breakfast. They ate her breakfast so she ate them.
>>78026996
It helps not having much of a social life...
>>78027620
Something tells me you aren't renowned for writing.
I dunno what's happening with me lately, I don't feel like working on my webcomic, and when I force myself to, I look ath the paper and sigh, getting nothing done.
I ended up doing another fanart on the go, that It will need some fixing because I didn't have a ruler and that throne is messed up.
I'll try to get something done once I get home from work.
>>78027485
>secondary gag
But isn't the trapped guy saying "Send help" the secondary gag (escalation)?
If the 4th panel was just
> "Is that an eyeball?"
> "Yeah"
then that wouldn't really work as it doesn't bring anything new to what's shown in the previous panel.
But as it is, we see Chekov's eyeball in panel 3, and then Chekov himself, unexpectedly, trapped in the throat in panel 4.
>>78027620
I don't think panel 3 adds anything to the strip in this case; it doesn't develop it any further.
Panels 1, 2 and 4 together would be fine if it was a 3 panel gag, but for 4 panels you need either additional set up, or a secondary escalation of the punchline.
>>78028032
What exactly do you not like? Writer's block? Laying out the page? Lacking interest in the comic as a whole?
>>78028032
we all get blahs. If it helps, this looks great. Your art has been looking better every time I see it lately
>>78028081
I think the current plan by the artist is for the 4th panel to just have 'help me' and nowt else
>>78028129
I'm going to do another page and look at it later because too many conflicting ideas here.
>>78028101
I dunno, I know how thew story goes, so I'm not put of ideas. I'm confident in my composition to know how to lay out the upcoming pages.
I think I lack excitement. Some times I'm really hype about doing some scenes that in my head are good, and when I do them, I don't stop until it's over, but this time, while I like what I'm doing, I don't feel pumped to get it done.
Wish I could explain exactly what's going on my head, but I'm not sure I understand it either.
>>78027485
I'm not an expert, take this as a reader opinion, I think the fourth panel would work better if she was standing alone with a blank stare, like the guy pretty much evaporated due to fear.
>>78028081
>But isn't the trapped guy saying "Send help" the secondary gag (escalation)?
It can be or supplement the first gag. It really depends on the overall comic.
>I don't think panel 3 adds anything to the strip in this case; it doesn't develop it any further.
>Panels 1, 2 and 4 together would be fine if it was a 3 panel gag, but for 4 panels you need either additional set up, or a secondary escalation of the punchline.
That comic would be her appearing to be normal to the guy as she reacts to the compliment then going to extremely unsettling when she opens her mouth in the fourth panel.
The end to PPG's Moral Decay comes to mind.
>>78028162
Do whatever you feel is better. It's your comic. Not ours.
>>78028229
I'm the original artist and I didnt make that version of the comic. I did thumbnail something very similar and one just like what you stated. There were about 10 different versions of this comic I had tested and rejected. The version I posted is what I liked best.
>>78028275
Then go with it and don't change anything. Do your thing.
>>78028275
Your original was the best one so far, you should trust your own opinion more.
>>78028275
It's funny how people have their own preconceptions about what an artist has already considered when they give advice. Necessarily, since they aren't psychic. Yet I find most of the time if I try to explain that I've already thought of something and decided against it, they call it excuses or deflecting.
>>78028275
Oh, I see. Well, I do agree with the notion that the third and fourth panels kinda drag the joke, but instead of changing the last one, I think the third could have a little smile that doesn't reveal yet the horror.
I looked at the one with the tentacles and the one with the bangs on her head, and those work perfectly, and I think part of the reason is keeping the reveal to the very last panel.
BTW, do you host this somewhere?
>>78028324
In the end it doesn't matter. The best thing is to at least listen and use your personal judgment.
>>78028390
Im going to make seperate versions of the last 2 panels and then think on it for a bit. I don't have anything hosted yet and to be honest these strips are so I can sell small books at cons. The webcomic I planned is something different entirely. I seem to recall you drew one of the characters in a thread. If you have a tumblr, mine is indifferetsocks.
>>78028461
OH! I made a drawing for you some time ago, and you did one for me too, I remember you!
>>78028324
I wasn't trying to make excuses if that's what your implying. I did mention I'm going to give one of the ideas a try. Ist just that I never ever make one go at anything. It's why I never produced much work. I am very picky but at the same time my head always seems to want things to go in one exact direction and one only. This was my attempt to vary it up a bit. I tried many options and I made many thumbnails. Some had up to 6 panels. I have a problem where I over thing things though and so I told myself to shut up and keep it simple with a mild variation.
>>78028515
no man i'm saying -i- get accused of making excuses. i'm glad people are being understanding this time because you're obviously listening and you've obviously put lots of thought in
>>78029315
Ah okay sorry for the misunderstanding! Im an insane paranoid person haha. I'm trying but the lots of thoughts are why I never finish much. I hope next time people are understanding of you!
>>78021984
>be me
>Literally check out /co/ after 3 weeks of avoiding 4chan
>see this thread
Why do you nigs have to guilt me? WHY?!
>>78029422
What?
>>78029449
what is there to elaborate?
"how's that webcomic coming along?"
"i-i haven't worked on it yet..."
"you're not gonna make it"
>>78029514
What's stopping you from making it?
First page of something I'm writing and colouring while a buddy does pencils and inks.
27 page story, reasonably self-contained. Will hopefully have more soon.
New to colouring, think it gets a bit messy here and there. Want to simplify it.
>>78029585
nothing really, i get stuck doodling aimlessly or feeling like i need to study, so i end up drawing boxes or a face or an ellipse. I don't really have a direction.
also i don't really have much to say, no real life experiences outside of school and my job.
And I really hate using photoshop, but I have to use it to make things.
I like drawing, I have no stories. Lately I just draw to keep myself from rusting, but I spend a lot of time playing videogames or watching tv or dicking around.
>>78029514
hey man hey
that pressure? that's all you. you're pushing yourself
>>78029697
That's okay, that stage is useful. Just stick with it, draw stuff you feel like drawing. Let the comic wait until you have stories. They will appear, you'll get inspired. You'll be watching something or read a summary of an episode of something or half-hear the plot of something and your brain will be like 'hey what if such and such' and that's how it'll go. Til then, just draw stuff.
>>78029760
>>78029721
ok well ill draw something now, and post it, maybe i can get some ideas
Every-time, I am thinking about giving up my comics. I always listen to the blue lanterns oath.
"In fearful day, in raging night, With strong hearts full, our souls ignite. When all seems lost in the War of Light, Look to the stars, for hope burns bright!"
I, too, have a comic and would like to know whether or not it sucks.
>>78030608

>>78030771
I think he's just looking for advice, not set up a readership yet.
>>78030608
It looks good, but it feels a bit "stiff".
Also, what's up with the beard guy's top?
>>78030825
This is the design. I don't do the art, so I guess my artist feels it's not worth all the effort for the small details. It's supposed to emulate old greek armor.
>>78030771
Damn, forgot.
www.wondercomics.org/hot007 is this comic.
>>78030825
He is asking for advice. And I'm giving some that he probably hasn't gotten the last time he posted that page.
At least a comic title and website. It's also something I have noticed other webcomics in this thread have done, posting their work and having a website and are looking for new readers. And then someone asks for comic name and links.
It's something that all webcomics need to have.
For example, pic related. This comic has everything. Title, author name, address. Imagine someone saves this image and posts it somewhere else. Somebody might be interested and want to check it out. Well all the info is right there. Bam, new reader.
This isn't aimed at just that anon but any webcomic that wants to maximize potential readers. On every page there should be at least be a title and an address.
Pages 15-16 are up with grampa doing a war storytime.

WIP of the next page.
The night I thought of this page, I was laughing alot, that hasn't happened ln a long time.

Ooooopsies, thanks. I'll fix it.
Is there a way in Manga Studio to defocus a layer? I want to have a couple panels with shallow focus.
>>78031306
nevermind, found it
>>78031056
in this case it's necessary, because searching 'the monster under the bed' wouldn't get you the comic
if your title is unique, a title is fine
>>78031111
i kinda like how it's like one vertical comic page, but split in half so you can read it side to side.. which is better
>>78031526
Or any title. Or address.
>>78031056
That's probably a good idea, but it also seems tacky.
hi there. i just wanted to ask all the cool things that can be done with a robot arm. for context, one of my dudes is a doctor that also has a robot arm. what are some fighting-related things he could do with it? i've already got like open-palm-injection shots and like sedative bullets from fingertips.
>>78029696
This guy again - any feedback on this page?
Colours, layout, pencils, whatever. Not trying to build up a readership yet, because it's really just a page done so far. Just testing the waters.

>>78031406
Don't leave us hanging, what's the technique here?
Maybe someone else would benefit from this knowledge. Share with the class!
>>78031184
love that physical comedy
I forget, did I invent o'Burgerstein's or did I get that from a previous comic?
>>78031680
Yeah, you invented it in your guest comic.
Just a lil' callback.
>>78031566
I'm no artist, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
I think you could benefit from using less bright colors. Darker shades or muting the colors might look better. The bend of the soldier's arm in the second panel also looks off. It shouldn't be that straight.
>>78031565
i've always been fond of the 90s classic 'cannon of some kind mounted in forearm on rising platform'
you can also have the wrist unit detach and propel itself with a trailing cable wound in by a winch further into the arm, so the hand can be a grappling hook or a GET OVER HERE
bullets from fingertips is tricky to justify because how the hell are they being fed in through the joints and motors and all that, but electrifying itself is perfect (just make sure it shields the user at the shoulder attachment point)
umm concealed buzzsaw elbow.. biosensors so you can tell just where to jab somebody with a touch.. poison coated spikes.. the sky's the limit. just don't cram it all in at once or it's like how the fuck does it fit

>"Jesus! The device won't shoot out air like a pistol! You got scammed!"
or maybe even
>"Jesus! The 'air pistol' is never gonna work! You got scammed by that fool!"
>"Sorry Mike, but you're wrong. It took me several hours to make this 'theory' come to life. I just need some support or love from my best friends."
what the girl says is fine as-is
>"My hopes and dreams had just been crushed by those few words."
just my two cents
Sorry to miss the last update here, usually like chit-chatting with folks about stuff. We're doing a slight break from Beatrice on the warpath to confront the issue's title. Conrad finds his balls and opts to get confrontational with his backers in New Mexico.
Might make a cast page too. Got the time for it now. Any major stuff go down?
>>78032117
'Bout time you got back to it. I missed your silly stuff. Read your backlog awhile back, nice to see you here again. That's a silly looking cat, and I love it.
>>78024665
Oh good, you're here. I read your first chapter awhile back and really enjoyed it. Nice to see a western and you stick to tone really well. The little details and the hand-lettering are very appreciated.
>>78033150
somehow I never thought he had backers.. or standards. it'll be interesting getting to know the REAL him a bit
and yeah this is a great time for a cast page, the cast has gotten big enough that it's hard to just quickly skim a few early comics to get everyone's name, and the art style has solidified nicely. (and with a comic this set in reality, you've got too many mundane names to remember easily. at least to me, names like that blend together like memories of kids at school)
>>78032805
>Bang! Bang! Pow! You're dead!
>I can't believe that our runt of a brother got scammed like that! "Air pistols" my ass!
>Why does Mike always have to be so negative? It took me hours to get this down. All I really need is some encouragement!
>What are you doing? You look like a clown pointing at random things.
>My hopes and dreams... crushed.

>>78022726
Yeah that's probably mine. Like Rawrunes said, the title is Res Nullius. Latin for belonging to nobody, hence the url.

I've also got a secondary blog with meta stuff. Q&A, lore for the space opera setting, if you care about that kind of stuff, some one-off art. The character Q&A stuff is sometimes meant to have little easter eggs for the attentive reader. Hazel's childhood day dream discussion, for example. That's here:
dumcasta.tumblr.com
>>78033294
>Backers/Standards
Yeah, they've been sort of throwaway comments. Conrad's got people giving him orders to some degree; he isn't happy about it but they're present. Possibly in New Mexico. But he's a lacking-in-confidence shitzipper without a spine when it comes to verbal confrontations with them; and it'll be fun to explore that too.
As for standards, Conrad has said he doesn't want to/like to kill dogs. Lot easier to hurt people than animals, at least from my personal vantage point. I know way shittier people than dogs.
>Cast Page
Yeah, that's the real problem with doing stuff in reality. Names. I realize now that having Delk being misnamed by Walt as Dirk further compounds problems. Though he does have the most uncommon name of the crew.
Thanks for the art comment. We're in a good place now. How's your stuff going?
>>78033150
Yeah this year has been a mess for my comic. I'm always excited to get back into the community, though. Looking forward to a VERY comic-y 2016
Hope you guys aren't mad about the whole fuck up the thread thingI tried
>>78033884

>Hand lettering done well is miles better than digital. There's something about having perfectly identical letters that just doesn't work
I disagree, I don't particularly enjoy having to read text that's handwritten and prefer comic with well executed font lettering. So it's more a matter of taste than an absolute "one is better than the other".
I can appreciate the work that goes into hand-lettering, especially in traditional media where fixing spacing errors is much harder, but just because something takes more work to do doesn't mean it's inherently better.

>>78044169
Wow you're... really good at drawing.. which makes the flaws in proportioning REALLY stand out more than they would otherwise
cool hood
anyway who is she? what's it about?
>>78044230
I know, the flaws are killing me right now. I'm open to critique.
The character is a mage, who teams up with an expedition team to find a long forgotten technology. The story is pretty much just Indiana Jones meets Tintin.
>>78044336
not so much critique as tweak. shorter neck, shorter upper torso, shorter lower torso, shorter arms, then just straight up scale up the lower body. As for the facial proportions they seem pretty inconsistent, leading to some looks working and others not
on the other hand holy crap look at the consistent angles on those difficult shoes, pouches, ransel.. cuffs.. hands.. i've never seen anyone be so good at those and still have proportions worse than twilight princess. I'm really not trying to insult you it's just so weird to see that. I've been trying forever to get as good as you at those accessories.
>tfw you have a million great ideas for the middle of your story
>tfw you have no idea about the beginning or end
>>78045555
>Tfw you got a-lot of ideas
>But, You are terrible at dialogue and pacing.
>>78045555
What's the middle part of your story?
>>78045599
Main protagonist girl is forced to become not-useless in order to save the ones she loves, because prophecy.
She's a light mage, the only one of her kind. As such, she's the only one who can fight the shadow magi, who have been getting more and more powerful for years, and now threaten to become a serious problem to the world at large. Problem is that she's horribly inept with her gift.
So the story is about her slowly getting better at using her gift, but also learning of the horrors and responsibility that possessing such a gift comes with.
She carries an enchanted pistol, which lets you wipe away memories with a shot to the head. It's got seven bullets. She holds it to her head every night, debating whether or not to erase the whole mess from her mind.
>>78045898
Meant to reply to >>78045624
>tfw get a million ideas
>the idea gets bigger and I start laying out characters, plot, and setting
>after a lot of planning in my head they always turn into a drama
>after a while of that I can't take it seriously and laugh at the idea
How do I start something at a small scale?
>>78046035
Well, think about the difference between Naruto in the beginning and now.
In the beginning, it was a very personal fight with Zabuza, where every kunai and shuriken actually meant something.
Now, if someone doesn't have a jutsu that destroys small moons, they're dogmeat.
It's because in the beginning, they were fighting for their friends, not to save the world.
Maybe start off describing why she's the only "light mage" in this story? What happened to the other mages and why are they fighting the shadow magi?
>>78046134
meant to reply to you>>78045920
>>78046100
>Using naruto as a example.
>>78046134
I know why she's the last one, I just don't know how to do the call to adventure.
>>78046154
You can hate on Naruto all you want, but it's a prime example of ramping up the stakes too high, and ultimately making shit too silly to take seriously.
If the shadow folks are getting more and more powerful, maybe they show this by destroying some personal thing in her life. (Killing her parents, attacking her home town, kidnapping her dog)
>>78045898

Hack here.
How do the writers here work with their artists? Is there anything beyond just sharing a script and then waiting for the final strips to be finished?
Is pacing something you can only get by practice or are there any basic guidelines for it?

I have no electric at the moment (I'm using my phone to post this) so sorry it's dark. The text is mimi asking of its ok to pet the dog, woman says it's ok because the dog loves people.
>>78049544
I give them all the details I want initially, sketch up a layout of the page, and await a sketch from them. If I have any changes I want, I let them know. Then I get the finished result.
Sometimes even at the very end there's something that needs to be changed and I either tell the artist to fix it or I do it myself. That's why I ask for the files for the images.
It also depends on how much freedom you want to give the artist and how much you trust them to come up with something to make your page even better. If you're kind of an artist you may want more control. If not, it's best to find an artist that is good on their own and give them just the details you specifically want.
A good idea is to get the artist as invested in the project as possible. Give them respect and compliment them. Ask them for their opinions. If they care it'll show in their work and you want that.
So I seem to be making around $10 a week from my ads. Should I use the money to advertise more or just pocket the money and put it towards something else?
I think I had better ask for help on this one. Low angle view. Foreshortened. Character's head is forced back and straining.
>>78046100
uh
IN THE BEGINNING it was just some kids training to become ninja, doing oddjobs around their village and neighboring villages. if i was in charge it would have stayed like that. ditto bleach and shaman king.. and yu yu hakusho would have stayed that way for longer in the anime like it did in the manga

The electric situaton is complicated. Before we moved in, we had everything in the place redone but the electrician reccomend by the building was horrible. Not only did he reuse old items from other jobs, he wired everything so weirdly which caused the lighs to flicker and some of the switch plates to get extremely hot as well as having several outlits flat out not work. The electric has been out because the repairs have been so extensive and the more the new electricians do, the more problems they find. We will be suing the old guy for sure.
Anyhow, yeah mimi is pretty naive. In another comic I'll be drawing soon, she gives one of her extra eyes to a stray cat that is missing one. She also screws with cameras.
Ok /co/ I'm gonna send some reference to a team that is gonna help me renewing my site.
Is there a webcomic that you read wich generally looks nice to you and it improves your experience (regardless of the art) ?
more than one example would help me to not just copycat something.

I have a pretty involved process with my artist which I'm sure annoys him a lot of the time. First I write a script, then I send it to him, and he draws it page by page. Each page he sends me a very rough sketched layout which I look over. Usually I approve the layout without any changes because he has a very good sense for what looks good on a comic page. Then he starts on the inks, once those are done I look them over to see if anything needs to be changed before the page progresses, then he does flat colors and I look them over, then shaded colors, and after that we start working on dialogue, sound effects, narration, etc. This is the step where I end up rewriting something on almost every page, including changing multiple pages at once to better fit what he's drawn. The comic comes out stronger for it though, and the end result is always better than what was in the script. When issue 1 is finished, I'm gonna post the script here for anyone who's interested, so they can compare it to the finished comic and see just how much was changed (hint: it's a lot). I like the intensive, one-on-one interaction with my artist that the webcomic medium gives me. If this were a proper studio comic, I wouldn't get to oversee the production like this and the quality of the comics would suffer, both from an artistic and from a writing perspective.
>Is pacing something you can only get by practice or are there any basic guidelines for it?
It's a combination of practice and study, just like anything related to comics is, really. Always be working on stuff, and also always be reading stuff created by other people, but with the eye of a writer rather than a fan. See what they do, how they do it, why they do it, what works and what doesn't, and learn from that, while at the same time working on your own stuff yourself.

>how to work with an artist
-get the artist involved emotionally, let him/her edit the script
-prepare your feedback, don't give vague criticism
-understand that every change and improvement means more work for the artist. Know when to just accept the illustrations as they are.
-some people write together, then the artist moves on to draw the pages, some people just work separately. Working together is more fun and much more difficult and demanding at the same time.
>pacing
yes you can study it, there are articles about this. Both visually and script-wise. Of course, testing and comparing is how you learn it best.
the basics: learn story structure, scene structure and joke structure first. Learn editing techniques from movies.
Working with a pair requires a lot of conversation about how to improve your working habits. I've seen what happens if you don't any times.

But I'm being paid to art, not edit.
