If I dislike a show or disagree with the characters' actions, I will tell my kids and discuss these moments with them, but the choice to watch or not to watch something will be on them. I want my future kids to make their own choices and develop their own taste.

This whole article is by parents that have a hate boner for this kid. Essentially he whines all the time and does shit that would have resulted in an assbeating or at least a time out in a more liberal household. He never seems to learn a lesson and the adults pretty much let him do whatever.
My brother would slur his words and talk like a baby after catching an episode and we tried our hardest to keep him from being exposed to him despite the fact sprout would air it all the time.

Kids aren't exactly discerning consumers though. It's well known that, at an early age, a kid will sit & watch absolutely anything that's on.
If that's the pattern when they're little, they'll keep the habit. They won't "develop their own taste" because they'll be used to watching whatever happens to be playing without question.
We're not just talking about objectionable content, we're including shows that are just plain stupid too. You are the adult, you should have the confidence that your taste in media is better than a small child's.

Caillou is a brat. In every episode he whines and cries and screams when even the smallest thing goes wrong. Then his parents don't tell him off for it rather than they just give in and play to his every demand.
My little sister would watch it when she was younger and it made her a really brat until we forbid it- then she went back to being pretty calm.
All in all it just gives kids bad views and it's a pretty stupid show overall.

The difference im trying to point out is that our parents didnt care about or were actually aware of what went on in cartoons other than what the media or church told them.
I used to work in a bookstore, and when I was working in the Kids section, I'd often have to give recommendations to parents. I recall speaking to one mother who, when Caillou was mentioned, went on a huge rant about how she's forbidden her children from watching it, mostly for the reasons other anons have already mentioned.
However, after I became an uncle a few years ago, I've had to sit through a lot of Treehouse with my niece. If there's any show I would ban, it would be Toopy and Binoo. My god... don't get me wrong. Homosexuals are great and all, but Toopy is a huge, creepy, flaming faggot. He makes my skin crawl, and I'm not even a homophobe.

yeah, it was odd. Not sure the Disney thing was necessary, but I do appreciate the classic movie matinees he'd take me to. Our old local little movie theater would do shit like have Heston week, or Kurosawa week. I think I watched Throne of Blood somewhere around the same age. responding "Yojimbo" as a child could get complicated when someone asked what my favourite movie was, I think I started just saying "Batman" for the sake of it.
