Fusion is one of the best aspects of the show.
Getting over whether it is sexual or not, it is a manifestation of the relationship between characters, as a new character. It is a sign of Sugar and crew's goals with the show. It is about the character relationships, that isn't secondary, that is the primary focus.
While there is action, and some cutesy fun, and I wouldn't take that away from anyone who wants to watch the show for those aspects.

It doesn't HAVE to be erotic, but it turns out that way with garnet's fusions and Pearl x Rose at least.
