Man Trank isn't going to bounce back from this shit anytime soon, especially considering the fact he won't play ball with the studios. Guy might end up blacklisted from anything big for 5-10 years. Disney made the right move when they tanked the Trank.

They have the X-Men franchise, which thanks to Singer is alive again. They can live off that while they try to figure out what to do with the FF.
>>
>>77865009
How much of a financial hit did Fox take for this shit? Budget was already well over $100 million without taking marketing into account.

>>77865055
They could cut a deal with Disney like Sony, though Fox isn't having nearly as much trouble as Sony Pictures has had over the last couple years. They'll probably just see what happens once it gets closer to them losing the rights again, as Disney probably isn't losing any sleep over not have the FF property to using right now in the MCU.
>>
>>77864917

Marvel literally putting the fear of god into long established studios.

Amazing.
>>
>>77865063
>How much of a financial hit did Fox take for this shit? Budget was already well over $100 million without taking marketing into account.

They're not as financially poor as Sony. But it was a pretty bad quarter for them, and F4 was bad enough that Rupert Murdoch named it as a problem.

There probably is some kind of deal that happened seeing as how two X-Men shows are going to be made with Marvel producer involvement. Months ago Fox indicated they needed Marvel's approval to get X-Men shows going.

Somewhere around 100 million.
>>

Probably would be a fair trade considering how profitable the entire X-Men franchise has been for Fox, not like Fox has really cracked the code on what makes a good FF movie. I wonder what type of deal they have with the merchandise for X-Men/FF, that's where the real money is after all.

http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/rupert-murdoch-blames-fantastic-four-flop-for-foxs-poor-fiscal-showing

>Wall Street predicted that Fox would make $6.42 billion during the quarter, but the studio has reported that they actually made $6.08 billion. That's a $340 million dollar difference.

>Executive chairman Rupert Murdoch called out the FF flop in his statement, after stating that the company's cable networks "generated strong growth" during the quarter. “Our quarterly results also reflect the expected impact of challenging comparisons for our film studio due to the timing of key releases, as well as the poor performance of ‘The Fantastic Four,'” said Murdoch.

I think that was the closest they came to saying that there wasn't gonna be a sequel to this, until they actually removed the date weeks later.
>>
>>77865055
Yeah, just because Fox has one dud franchise doesn't mean it's all ogre. People are kind of exaggerating that. Even though they don't know what to do with F4, they still have X-Men and, like, every other movie they make that isn't a cape film.

I really wonder if they are going to go for another reboot with F4, or if the brand is so damaged that they'll just sell, though.

From what I remember marvel offered to trade some x-men tv permissions, an extension on the FF and X-men rights, and direct help from marvel in the production of those shows for rights to use the FF and associated entities.

Fox basically spit in their face at the time. Who knows whats going to happen with them now.
>>
>>77865102
>Probably would be a fair trade considering how profitable the entire X-Men franchise has been for Fox,

Not really. DoFP is the only one to pass 460 million ww.
>>
i feel like the movie, on its own, isnt as bad as everyone says

disney/marvel just led a pretty effective smear campaign to turn the public against whatever fox couldve made so that fox would lose hope and give up the FF rights
>>
>>77865129

Yup

For perspective Ant-man was a bigger hit than any solo Wolverine movie, and Fantastic Four movie and any X-MEN movie save for 1.

I anything Singer has squandered the potential of the franchise.

I dare say if Marvel got the rights to x-men back their first film would break 1 billion.

Go to bed Josh, this isn't an argument you're going to win. The movie was a trainwreck on a technical level alone, that's troubling in it's own right outside of poor writing.
>>
>>77865120
Fox still has goodwill from the general audience on the basis of Days of Future Past, so if Apocalypse does well then it's nothing for them to worry about on the X-Men front.

>I really wonder if they are going to go for another reboot with F4, or if the brand is so damaged that they'll just sell, though.

They could reboot but I doubt it given how badly the film did and now people have the Story films and Trank's film as being bad.

I don't know about that, but they offered Fox an extension on their Daredevil project in exchange for Galactus and Silver Surfer. Fox declined because they had a draft from Jeremy Slater that had Galactus being hinted in it.

Of course given how the film turned out they were probably better off giving up Galactus and Silver Surfer to Marvel.

I would give an X-Men tv series a chance given how much I've liked Gotham season 2. Never seen a show have such a large turnaround between seasons, went from shit to GOTY.
>>
They'll just make a cheap direct-to-DVD movie in 7 years and release it in the minimum legally required amount of theatres.
Fox cares about about preventing Disney from making money than actually making money off of the FF themselves

I really liked season 1 but yeah, its a good show. The best thing about it is that they paid attention to the theme of the show's universe;l. They'd have to find somebody for an X-men show with a clear vision, but I'd certainly give it a try.

Never understood why people disliked season 1. Biggest complaints I heard were Babs and Fish. Yeah, they were bad, but they were just part of the whole package, which I thought was a pretty good cartoony crime show
>>
>>77865212

I still remember when the first trailer dropped and many people trying to convince themselves it would be good.
>>
>>77865193
>They'll just make a cheap direct-to-DVD movie in 7 years and release it in the minimum legally required amount of theatres.

Look, I know you've been reading about the 1994 FF and that one Hellraiser film and you've got it into your head that studios can get away with direct-to-DVD shit, but let's be real here.

If Fox had been able to get away with slapping together a direct-to-DVD Fantastic Four, they would've dumped Trank before he completely fucked up the project and then started over from scratch but with a cheap director and cast. That they didn't means they weren't allowed to. Even in >>77864917 they were worried about ditching Trank because it meant they'd have to hire someone desperate for work or start over, so it sure as hell doesn't sound like they could do a direct-to-DVD film.

And even if they had that option now it wouldn't be worth it for them since at least Hellraiser was a successful franchise at the start. F4 did mediocre and then abysmal for them.

Well let me clarify, season one does have it's good moments and maybe a great moment or two. The main problems I had were how much the show meandered around with it's plot, the 'look at this guy he's gonna be so and so one day!' moments without having the character actually do anything, and the actual shitty moments were REALLY shitty. Still, it was good enough for me to continue watching and I'm glad I did. Last couple episodes have been outstanding, looking forward to Strange and Freeze.

>>77865212
I knew it was gonna flop because they took so damn long to actually start making it, which shows they only did it to keep the rights and not because they actually wanted to
>>
I didn't watch the film, but I saw the climax battle on YouTube.

Pretty hilarious. Like, it felt like one of those '80s kids movies. The acting, the set, the music.

Like, Mr. Fantastic using his stretching powers to punch Doom from three feet away... looked like a rock-'em-sock-'em robot.
>>
>>77865227
It's probably not that they couldn't make a direct to DVD movie. It's that they had already dumped money into making FF a tentpole movie
>>
>>77865222
>The effects are just unfinished! Watch, it'll look great when it premieres!
I like how people keep using this as a defense but I can't remember the last time a trailer had really bad special effects that ended up looking great in the finished movie.
>>
>>77865227
Sunk cost fallacy.
They'd already invested too much into the Fant4stic movie, it was too late to make a direct to DVD film at that point.
Plus, they didn't want to actually publicly admit that they fucked up.
>>
>>77865271
The last time I remember this happening was the first Iron Man trailer, which had a few cheap looking shots that were fixed. Other than that the "they'll fix them in the finished movie, just wait!" thing almost never applies to major movies. Some effects will get tweaked between trailer and release but you don't really see many cases where the effects look laughably bad in the trailer but they're seriously improved when it comes out.
>>
>>77865271
What I loved here was that we got a new trailer only weeks before release date and some people were STILL convinced that the bad effects shots would be much better in the finished movie.
>>
>>77865222
Man, do I remember that.

People were INSISTING that this movie was going to be so dark and serious and be such a well-constructed movie

The problem with this theory is that the rumors about Trank getting replaced was happening before the principle photography started. If there was a time to bail and get someone to do direct-to-DVD it'd be there.
>>

>Singer
its literally just singer, we've seen what fox does to the X-men without him, and now that apocalypse is his last one, we will see yet another dark age
Fox just cant into superhero movies, getting Brian singer was the only good descision they made and even then they fucked by letting him go after 2 movies to ruin superman
>>
>>77865373
Did they? I'm pretty sure they didn't start until filming was underway and reports came in that he was hard to work with, and Fox saw the dailies and realized they weren't that good
