Why do nerds have to lie about their favorite videogame/book/movie and pick a boring obscure one in hopes of some stupid "nerd cred"?

"Oh man Gary what an obscure game! You must be a REAL NERDâ„¢ and not newfag poser who likes Smash Bros!"
>>
>>77842771
cause its the only thing that defines them, so if they pick something normal, they think they're worthless as a person.

its the reason you see contrarian shit on /tv/ and /v/
>>
>>77842771
Because normalfags don't tend to react well when you mention something outside their usual sphere. That's why they get quite offended if you so much as suggest that, for example, Fallout 4 really isn't that good a game.
>>
>>77842771
I sincerely doubt Gary was lying.

I like Team Fortress 2.

WILL GARY GET SOME SWEET BUT MEANINGFUL ACTION WITH THE HOT NERDY CHICK, OR WILL ONE OF THEM GET SCREWED OVER BY CIRCUMSTANCES AS USUAL? PLACE YOUR BETS, PEOPLE!*

*/pol/ is prohibited from voting because of their racist points of view. It's NOT race-mixing, damn it.
>>
>>77842527
That's a bit too broken, even for Gary. It sounds more like a Wiki article or search engine result than something someone would say naturally.

There's also nothing really obscure about that game, so asking for clarification is weird in and of itself. A better response would have been:

>Oh, I used to love that game, the breast physics engine alone was f-

Then his attempted recovery. Which I'll let pass as 'what's that' because that's from a moment of panic and could legitimately been a reaction. What frustrates me in the writing for Gary is the lengths they go to to make him a dork. Not a nerd, but someone genuinely unable to have a modicum of common sense.

People in real life don't always realize they made a social faux pas mid-sentence. Sometimes they only realize it after they finished their sentence. You're thinking in cliches where people are like, "Oh you mean when I pounded your mom's-" and then they don't finish the sentence because obviously the reader knows what they're going to say next (ie, "- CUNT").
>>
>>77842967
Yeah, I'm curious to hear her justification, but it's probably some sort of childhood memory. Which really, really makes me wish Gary'd 'fixed' his statement with 'Why's that?'
>>
>>77842771

but anon, i like obscure games...
>>
>>77842989
True enough, the mid-sentence thing is just from personal experience. It's more that he takes 3 pauses, each one allowing brain-processing time.
>You mean
>The spinoff of the fighting games
>Where all the girls play volleyball in skimpy bikinis
>That has its own breasts physics engine

That's a LOT of material for him to spout. It'd feel like train-of-thought if the pauses, brief though they'd be, weren't there or were structured better. Hell, if they'd just left out 'the spinoff of the fighting games' or 'where all the girls play volleyball in skimpy bikinis', it'd have flowed.

Space Channel 5 is obscure, but casual. It's a fucking rhythm game. In fact, I would question its obscurity, big name publisher is behind it.

Favorite game series is Ace Attorney, rate my taste
>>
>>77843306
Rumble Roses was superior to a lot of things. Didn't stop it from getting shit on for the exact same reasons as DOAX until it was too late. Then XX shit the bed and now the series is dead.
>>
>>77843430
Literally a VN without the porn.

>>77843451
Anon please, Ace Attorney has more gameplay then what VN can ever dream off. It's a first person point and click adventure game.

Popular things can fall into obscurity just because they're old. "Johnny Got His Gun" used to be pretty popular, but now it's just mainly remembered for the Metallica video, which is also kind of scarce at this point.
>>
Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite video game but I also enjoy Mobile Suit Gundam Senki U.C. 0081.

Why not double dip, fellas?

The girl is cute

>. "Johnny Got His Gun" used to be pretty popular
>Although Johnny Got His Gun was a minor success at the time of its release, it was largely forgotten soon after by mass audiences
Then again Wikipedia
>>
>>77843593
I meant the book, but I left myself open for that because the music video was made with clips from the movie.
The book was made in the 1940s, back when people actually read books en masse, and actually got a lot of political attention because of its author.
Then again, Wikipedia. And The Guardian.
>>
So what do you think happened with the other guy?

Space Channel 5 wasn't boring, it was short arcade style game, but it was entertaining.

>nerdy black chick

They're so rare where I live...
>>
>>77842771

Don't be like that, man.

If you're serious about a subject, your favourite is probably going to be something off the beaten path with less mass appeal, because (all other things being equal) the narrower a subject's audience is, the more passionately it will cater to that audience.

Smash Bros is fun, and many, many people like it. But those same qualities mean that most people won't have it as their favourite game unless they don't play many games, because it doesn't check anyone's boxes that they can't get checked everywhere.
