Lack of fun sex appeal in US comics?

It seems there's a a lack of sex appeal, fan-service etc in US comics lately, doesn't it? Maybe it's because if there's a cover with Catwoman showing boobage it gets 15 angy blogs etc. Maybe it just doesn't sell as well as boob-centric manga and whatnot?

There's Tarot the extreme example, but for the most part can't find many good US comics with sex appeal in them to my taste. The Red Sonja, Vampirella, etc kind of books are all a lot less fan-servicy than you'd think.

Marvel/DC don't seem to do much of it, except for a Power Girl appearance once in a while. Stuff like Danger Girl has a bit of it from time to time. All in all, there's a "fun cheesecake" drought in US comics, how do we turn this around?
>>
Unfortunately the sjws won't let comic books be written by adults that understand that other adults want to read about adults interacting with other adults like adults.

>>77816020
>The Red Sonja, Vampirella, etc kind of books are all a lot less fan-servicy than you'd think.

Red Sonja was never really about that. For Vampirella try the Harris era stories. Dynamite's Vampirella is GARBAGE except for the Aliens crossover and maybe one or two other crossovers.
>>
fuck it it's 2 am im about to go to bed so i'm gonna lay the truth and bounce

straight men can't do attractive sex. it's all shiny balloon tits, painted-on clothes, sharpie eyebrows and toothpick legs. never any good nice butts and thighs or clothing fetishes. blame the esjoos all you want but the truth is that you suck
>>
>>77816145
I think the balloon tits is from being too used to drawing tight costumes that they can get it right when they are out. Kinda like the invisible heels problem that a lot of pinup artist have.

God in heaven I wish Marvel would have put Sara Pichelli on a female character title with premsission to sexualize her up.
Maybe then, seeing a female creator gleefully doing it, Tumblr would finally get it thru their thick skulls that making women sexually appealing is not sexisr nor harmful.

Honestly comic companies are too greedy to do comics with sexy women. Shit art and uggos are where the money is now and they all want a piece of that. Things will normalize once they realize that there is a neglected market for this stuff.

In other words, everyone buy Aspen since they are the only ones still doing comics like this. As always the only thing to do is vote with your dollar.

>painted-on clothes
Yeah most mainstream artists can't draw textiles, they draw the shape of the body and the costume is colored on. They used to filter those types out, artist would be given on the spot challenges to draw body types other than adults. Like children, babies, or old people.

It's so weird, even when easy opportunities present themselves for sex appeal that doesn't require back broke poses or any of that crap, artist now shy away. Possibly to avoid bad press thanks to the sadist on Tumblr and such.

Example.
In the recent Squadron Sinister mini series, we got 3 sex/post sex scenes with Hyperion and Zarda and in not one of them, do they make Zarda particuarlaly sexy at all.
And she has a outfit perfectly built to show cleavage and Pacheco made her appear flat chested most of the time.

It's not in Batgirl at all WHATSOEVER.
Harley Quinn is a tiny bit, more in the team up with Power Girl than in her ongoing.
And they are going out of their way to make Starfire not sexy page by page.
Only when it's relevant to the plot or for humor.
If they just left some mother fucking cleavage, she would be sexy all the time and they wouldn't have to stop the story for sex humor once a issue or so.

Yes

However, good comics can occasionally have cheesecake.

Good comics with a character who is barely clothed are fine too. However, this stars to stray towards a "cheesecake comic."

Fanservice should be limited. Once every 3-4 issues at MOST.

A lot of it is a reaction to the PC movement that has sprang up over the last few years.

Both Marvel and DC (especially DC) have had SJW and other tumblir idiots start controversies. These have lead to months of 'comic journalism' about how all white cis men are evil and that the comic industry needs to change.

At this point I just don't think they want to deal with it so they have intentionally shut it down.

I read everything, or at least look at those 6 page previews, it's not just the big two. Image is very very lacking in fun sex appeal, often going for a very sterile Vertigo kind of feel etc.

>>77816083
Fansrvice isn't indicative of adult characters interacting like adults. That's having mature themes and writing, which fanservice is the opposite of.

Unless it's partially what the book is about, I can do without all the porny crap. Obviously Sexual themes have a place in many stories, but I'm not so sad that I need constant tits and ass. That shit isn't mature, it's juvenile. The Japanese have it right - some books have fanservice and are expected to, whereas other stories don't. You don't get heavy boobage in BLAME, and similarly I don't want pornstar poses in a serious western story. It's out of place, disruptive to tone, and lowers the overall quality of the book. If I want funny fanservice there's stuff like Empowered, where it works and doesn't detract from the narrative. Or there's porn.
>>
>>77822229

Eh, a lot of these kind of posts generalize everything together. For one, how is lighthearted f fun sexuality the opposite of "mature"? It's fun for older readers (or young readers who can hide the book from their parents).

Not everything mature needs to be dour faced and completely un-stylized. And I'm not saying every book needs it.

But you'd think a few books would be like that from say Image every month at least. Rat Queens is the closest, but it's more of a Vertigo style book when it comes to sexuality, not really going "cheesecake"y with it.

Something like the first run of Danger Girl or BattleChasers or something would be a good indication of what I'm talking about. Or for anime/manga, manga One Piece, Gunsmith Cats, etc.

Just a well done story with a bit of fun-fanservice in it. Porn is great too but that's not really the same category at all, that's a very 0 to 60 comparison.

>>
>>77816020
Americans are heavily triggered by sexuality. This was only a matter of time.
>>
>>77822389
It's a matter of degrees, really. And context.

I'm not saying that skimpy outfits or sexual themes have no place. But there's a big difference between having titillating characters/situations and having dumb voyeuristic shite.

Examples: Lilith and Questor are comics that Yurop that feature a lot of nudity and sexual situations. It works for them, though, because the former simply treats it tastefully, whereas the latter sort of admits to being tasteless and has fun with it, treating it in a lighthearted manner. It also doesn't over do it - female characters might slip a nip occasionally, and there might be on-panel sex, but they're not constantly in porny poses even when it makes no sense for them to be. The titillation is more full-on and, excuse the pun, naked, but it's not juvenile and it's not constant. Gunsmith Cats is like this too.

Conversely, what we generally consider as fanservice in western comics manages to show less while being far less tasteful. Instead of there just being nudity or sex, you have characters with their asses or tits or both thrust out toward the reader in unlikely poses, even when there's no reason for them to be posed like this. Sitting down on a chair becomes draping oneself on a chair with back arched and ass raised, as though inviting the reader to come and fuck said character. It's constant and juvenile and all it does is make everything seem vaguely juvenile.
>>
>>77823591
>vaguely juvenile

But whatever.

When she had that outfit she wasn't really doing the femme fatale role a lot.

It's absolutely immature and juvenile. It's a teenager's view of sex. Being immature isn't always bad, but let's not pretend cheesecake is the thinking man's comic.
>>

Those of us who used to buy cheesecake want actual nudity now.

If they want to cover them up, the costume should be visually similar.

Put Sonja in full chainmail, not a burka. Pic related.
Put Vampirella in a gown, not biker shorts.

Late bump but that first picture you posted is from his creator owned book(he doesn't write it though) which both parts were already released in France this year. It's even licensed by Titan comics to be released in 2016 in the states.

Some pleb fan you are.

>Yeah most mainstream artists can't draw textiles, they draw the shape of the body and the costume is colored on
I agree. Drawing clothes is a fucking headache if it's anything more complicated than a monocolored T-shirt/shorts/pants.

>You ever went to a comic book store with a kid, only to stumble on a large section of Witchblade? Or maybe try giving the kid an issue of Xmen, but turns out all of their favorite characters have rock hard nipples and are wearing string bikinis.

You do want him to give you grandchildren, don't you?

I agree. I've always opposed cheesecake for the sake of it. Only if it helps drive along the story.

>And shorts aren't sexy on Women.

lmfao

And just everything needs to be a thinking man's comic. If it isn't intellectually stimulating just toss it out.
>>
>>77829015
Fuck that, it's more important to protect him from the dangers of the female body. If he grows up to be sexually repressed it's better than the alternative. You're doing the right thing anon.
