The Speed Force isn't Silver Age, though. It's a 90s thing made up to "explain" why the Flash can do absolutely ridiculous shit (speedsters are oddly enough the only characters to keep pulling off SA tier feats well into our current days, except for total molecular control which kinda disappeared). Before that there was no magic dimension of speed, speedsters just got absolutely ridiculous powers from stuff like chemicals, lightning, snorting hard water, or saying math out loud.
And honestly, the main problem with the Speed Force stuff is what I'd call the Dr Strange problem. When you write stories based around it it can make for some great stuff, but in a shared universe it just doesn't work and only leads to inconsistencies and major instances of jobbing.

It does seem like, when characters have crazy superpowers that would have all sorts of complications and consequences (if The Flash could fun that fast, he'd have to deal with friction, sonic booms, he's turn into a skeleton after running a block cuz of all the biochemical energy he'd have to convert, most of the people he tries to save would die from being carried at that speed, etc), writers just move it into the realm of quasi-magic (or "science-so-advanced-it-looks-like-magic) so that they don't have to explain shit. How does the Flash have enough energy in his body to even run like that? He doesn't, he pulls the energy from the speed dimension. How do civilians not burn up in the atmosphere as he carries them at that speed due to friction? Speed force protects everything in the vicinity. How do lightning and forensic chemicals give you the ability to gofast? They don't, they just opened the gateway to the Speed Force. Etc.
How does Animal Man do shit? How can any sort of mutation allow one to use the abilities of any animal, even ones one doesn't have the physiology to mimic? Well, turns out, he taps into, like, the Animal force or dimension or whatever.
Swamp Thing? Plant Dimension.
Batman? No, he doesn't get his abilities from training and tools. He taps into Batforce, the field that is the cause of preptime and badassery throughout the universe itself.

The Speed Force is the energy that fuels the DC multiverse, it can do anything.

FUCK yes. /co/ bitches about characters being overpowered all the time, but flash gets a pass because of speedforce bullshit. Getting rid of it would make him less boringly overpowered, and his power would, hopefully, be more consistent.
