The Japanese version had lolis, shotas, and a pre-team rocket team rocket villains that could actually be competent at times.
The first half is great. Once they get to Atlantis the movie falls apart. The movie probably could have used another 20 minutes, it just felt rushed.

I feel like 90% of the time 'underrated gem' is just a completely average schlock. Not everything deserves to be a classic or remembered.
