Just finished my first scanlation in what feels like months, so I thought I'd share it here.

As always, all corrections, suggestions, etc. are welcome.

This is the first of a two volume series (I have the second translated, just need to typeset it, which is pretty damn boring). A young soldier-priestess named Skell, serving the god Steh-Vah gets wrapped up in a mysterious prophecy. I don't want to spoil anything, just give it a try.

I have to admit, I much preferred the second volume, but this is pretty neat too.

Hope you enjoy. I'll probably post the file in the win'o once I've got volume 2 typeset too, might storytime that in hopes of corrections as well.

It's called comix-regular, you can find it by googling comix regular free font download.
>>
Scanlating is so shit. Hours and hours of effort and when you're done nobody really gives a fuck.

I have no idea how/why you keep doing this phillywilly but know that its all appreciated.
>>
>>77769135
Haha, yeah, I guess it is, I don't really do it for the recognition, but it's always nice when people do appreciate it, so thanks for the comment.

What I like about it is a) it improves my shitty French somewhat b) it's kind of like a puzzle, you have to work out what they're saying, what they mean, how to say that in English and then how to fit it into the bubble. And it's always nice putting out a polished 'product'.

Pathetic bump but I really hope/wish someone starts ripping the comics from Europe Comics, they have a lot of french/euro comics in english.

Some have been ripped but now all. Also thanks for you effort OP, please post a link to dl.

*not all
>>
>>77770076
The thing is that at the moment they're only offering things in relatively low resolution.

They've hinted they may be talking to comixology and releasing on there in the future, and if they do, I'd definitely rip a few books.

As for the DL, I want to finish the other book first and put it up here for proofing, then release both at once.

You do it because you want people to know about them. The language barrier kills comics, sadly, and lots of great things go ignored. When you know you have something great and you don't have anyone to show it to you feel you should do something about it.

There's other reasons. I'm gonna give you an example. The comics industry in my country died, and when it came back it was basically dominated by Marvel-DC-Image. We have forgotten pretty much everything we've made.

I've seen Argentine comics on par with with Moebius and Kirby's greatest works but not a single soul here knows about them. By scanlanting and showing them to a community like this at least I can find comfort in that some people read it, since interest in my country is barebones.

The French (and Quebecois) bros do the same thing, albeit their industry is in a much better shape than ours.

Other industries like the Japanese couldn't give less of a fuck about foreigners, so it's entirely up to fans
>>
>>77771893
The Japanese get even less translations than the Anglos, Anon, but not a lot less.
>>
>>77771893
The only Argentine comic I know and in fact have ever heard of is The Eternaut, and it's finally getting an English translation, I'm super stoked to read it. Would love to see more.

Do French people scanlate to English? I thought it was the other way round, they're scanlating capeshit to French.

See, that's romantic as all get out but say, S.M. Stirling (he of the "well there are a lot of lesbians in my societies!. Live with it!) wouldn't really put a warleader, man or not, in a fighting general position like that without slathering them in quite a lot of the best armor they could get. Because that's sensible.

One of his warrior princess/queen types also literally "rides shotgun" at the head of her Chariot formation of nobles who are also "riding shotgun", with literal shotguns. She is quite well armored herself, although suffers a fairly nasty facial wound disqualifying her from being the sitting monarch, happily.

(Complicated. read the book.)

The most important female officer that's American also personally wears what I seem to recall is basically late Samurai kit, complete with a katana, and I think a .357 Magnum at her hip, or something equally big and mean. Also very often a shotgun. The same with her moon priestess deer hunting iron age english partner.

(The shotguns because they are very good for boarding actions, especially because random guys on a ship in any period, don't have much armor, and go splat when shot nicely.)

I've gotten hold of the full collections of Dax, Gilgamesh El Inmortal and Nippur de Lagash. All of the comics from the 60s / early 70s and considered on par with El Eternauta in terms of storytelling.

I'm planning of translating the first / most iconic issues of Nippur and Gilgamesh and see /co/'s reaction. They are extremely interesting because it's as if non-cape comics survived the golden age and stayed mainstream all the way to the 80s. There's also a lot of Italian influence on them.

>Do French people scanlate to English? I thought it was the other way round, they're scanlating capeshit to French.

Nobody we know of. But we are not only scanlation producers around.
>>
>>77774084
Sounds good, I look forward to it.
>>
>>77773646
Alfar's great, but Gilgamesh is more interesting and has a lot of absolutely pulpy moments, like a Valkyrie fighting the Nazis.

>>77773251
>I thought it was the other way round, they're scanlating capeshit to French.
Why would they? Most people read English and that stuff gets commercial releases anyway.
>>
>>77775210
Because not everyone does and not everything gets released. I know of at least two websites based around scanlating capeshit to French. Des capes et des bulles and something like dctrad

Gonna be honest, this sounds like a pathetic excuse but no. I'd scanned 2/3 of all his Mome stuff (from The Armed Garden collection), then my old laptop needed to be taken back into the store (I have a lifetime repair option you pay for) and, like a daft twat, forgot to back up all my stuff (been meaning to buy writable CD's for ages, never had much need for 'em before, suffice to say I have some now!). I didn't mind bending the spines so much with the Mome's 'cause they're softback, ideally I want to invest in one of those (rolling scanners where you pass the device over the image, not split the spines and lay them flat. Sorry anon feel like ah shit. Got some early Stephane Blanquet stuff from when he was still drawing comics instead of huge single-panel illo's (and his kid's book Toys In The Attic) that I wouldn't mind doing.
Also wouldn't mind doing the few Killoffer comics from Mome and the few volumes of Dungeon I have, If anyone's interested? Unfortunately Killoffer's only major book in English (693 Apparitions of...) is way too big to fit on my scanner! Sorry, again, Anon.
Oh I have some Mattt Konture books in French that I'm planning to scanlate with a pal much more fluent in French than I.

I would love to post some of my Edika stuff, but its already translated from french to german.
And then me translating it into english with my less-than-perfect language skills, I doubt it would work. Especially considering that there is usually a metric ton of speech bubbles filled to the brim with text.
