Old Gods occupy a locked dimension that even dimensional scissors can't open, some mysterious new student or existing cast member under the influence of a shadowy figure is trying to trick Star into combining her magic with dimensional scissors.
Marco and Star notice something is off and do some investigating and read big ass book as find out about the Old Gods, one note mentions 1 wielder of the wand succumbed to the madness but failed to summon the old gods
Turns out the guy trying to trick Star is some insane end of the world cultist with majority of his body already transformed (similar to Marco's tentacle arm) (may or may not be the old wielder who went insane)

On a serious note: Whatever time isn't spent doing their jobs, maintaining appearances and studying and/or training is probably spent sleeping. I think reading is a possibility, but the content is probably heavily monitored/controlled by Heinous and her minions. Just about everything is treated with such a professional coldness that it's hard to tell if they derive any enjoyment out of it. Or any emotion for that matter.

I finished the greentext I started last weekend, so without further ado: The Problem with Love Spells:

Sweet, was anticipating the finale so it's good to see it. I was also hoping for more when the naughty parts came up, but I guess that's a consequence of a 'everyone' ending and this being a blue board.
It was nicely written(maybe an error or two not sure) humor was especially good.(I love how casual the folks were about the whole thing) Despite my earlier complaints, I commend how you handled the lewd by leaving it up to the reader's imagination.
If anyone remembers our last weekend thread, I found some of Daron Nefcy's oldest Star art on archives of her BlogSpot, which she removed from that blog a couple years ago (I'm guessing when Star the TV show began production). Was going to post it, but it was midnight on a Sunday and the thread had just hit bump limit. If you've seen the preproduction stuff she's posted on her tumblr so far, there's nothing really mindblowing, but she hasn't shown some of this yet and it's still interesting if you like Star as a character and want to see how she developed.
Since it looks like mods won't delete the thread, I'll start posting the art now. The weekend just started, so hopefully this won't seem like I'm trying to kill the thread.

Trying to avoid posting duplicates of stuff Daron's already shown, but this is interesting because it's apparently the first drawing she made of Star Butterfly as Star Butterfly, posted in June 2008. The girl with a similar wand and cheeks is an early friend of hers, Leni (she's listed as that in the filenames of pictures of her). Seems they were both anime-obsessed weirdos. Don't think the other characters, besides Cashew the cat, have names.
In interviews, Daron said she had drawn a girl with heart cheeks as a doodle a few times before this. Eventually, when she began trying to pitch cartoons in her third year at CalArts, she tried to come up with the story behind the doodle and created the early concept of Star.

Everyone knows there's an unreleased pilot made at Disney from 2011/12, but apparently a short pilot was made at Nickelodeon too, sometime pre-2010. Daron has mentioned in interviews that Star was in development for a brief period somewhere else, and on this blog that a one-minute Star short was in production. I think the Nick pilot and this short were the same thing.
Since no one was all OMG I REMEMBER THIS when Star was announced, I'm guessing that first pilot never made it to air, as the show ended up at Disney within a year or 2. Unless someone's gonna claim it did and we have yet another lost media situation on our hands.

Daron has referred to this on tumblr as something she drew right before beginning production of Star's unaired pilot in 2011. Marco (if that's his name by now), Star, the Diazes, and Ludo and some minions look as we know them, and even the blasting-monsters-for-real theme is showing up.
That's all of Daron's early art, at least that she's made publicly available, but I'll post a few more preproduction things from after this that some people might not have seen.

It seems a bit more detailed, but that's because Daron had like a year to work on this and only this (and it may have been just 10 minutes), while now, individual episodes have to be made in like 6 months.

I think the battle from the pilot was incorporated into the plot of Match Maker, as what little we've seen, including this gif, is almost identical. It's also the only episode Daron has received storyboard credit for.
I remember this gif sparked constant debates about whether the show would be shit or not prior to its airing, and even gets "what the fuck" reactions now when posted in Star threads: people don't get why she spins before hitting the monster, why isn't it coordinated like my Japanese animes, etc.
I just rewatched Match Maker and there is a legit reason: just before this gif, Ludo's gator minion sent her flying by hitting her with his tail. She spins in midair to regain her balance and keep herself from slamming to the ground, then just happens to also hit another monster that's in her path-- the spin wasn't part of her attack.

That's right. Basically Lady's the projected ideal of the school, and is there to convince parents to enroll their daughters into St.O's. In some cases convincing the daughters themselves(sometimes as a result of causing local princes to swoon over her) Otherwise, it's up to Sol to bring the unruly teen in, peacefully or not.

The only other interpretation that comes to mind is a 'twisted family' sort of dynamic where Heinous somehow took them in at a young age.(Quite convoluted) But most of the fun comes from the horrified reactions of 3rd parties, and their (combined) efforts to un-brainwash the pair so post-St.O's is preferable/recommended.

Yes, the way it effects other people is one of the main factors that motivated me to go through with making this AU.(And it didn't seem like anyone was jumping on it, unless you count prissy star from the badboy au) Good exercise to see how many people would be impacted by them disappearing and coming back..like this. Probably largely depends on what your pairing of choice is and/or if you want to integrate fan-material/interactions.I do have an idea for a cute Jarco comic.

I think the different outfits worn during the dimension montage make the show look too much like it'll be dimension-hoppin' shenanigans, which people already argue the show doesn't do enough of, so what they went with is probably better (dimension part doesn't make it look like each episode will follow a different "theme"). I think the monster fight sequence is more entertaining in this version, though.
Also, I remember thinking, and have seen others observe, that the dimensional scissors are similar to the subtle knife from His Dark Materials. Even though it's a basic enough concept to just be a coincidence, Daron actually said on her blog that the book series is one of her favorites.

I like that because it doesn't involve "Okay the Mythos is the boss of everything", which is a bad habit of a ton of Lovecraft crossovers.
A good crossover mixes the themes of the two settings and Star's cosmology is very "humans can deal with weird cosmic shit after a while" which is the dead opposite of Lovecraft's.
I still like "Janna tries to build a boyfriend." though and might use that myself.

This is gonna sound stupid but I have a theory.
Basically this whole time we see her as Marco see's her not as how she actually is. Like in some episode the metaphorical spell will wear off and we see how she really looks and the answer is she's nothing special, her looks are just exaggerated by Marco's mind.

This is one of those 'open to interpretation' things. Though they do have to be reserved and/or subtle with their affections around Heinous romantic or not.(She does come off as a very prudish lady) On the other hand, I can see the usual Starco-y hugs, and overall closeness being 'played up' to make the school seem more appealing/friendly.
One definite thing I'm sure of is how they anchor each other; for better or worse. Whether it's helping each other survive whatever methods were used to convert them..or something like pic related.. . Despite having new identities they still have each other's backs...Mess up twins through and through.

I loved seeing all the early content very cool and interesting. It sticks out to me that Sol/proto-Marco had a blackbelt instead of the main show's current green.(probably to make him more relatable/emphasize his safeness) I wonder if a bit of him became Jeremy right down to the antagonistic nature.
