Let's discuss Skottie Young's "I Hate Fairyland"
>>
It's an interesting concept. I'm curious to see where it goes.
>>
I'll start by saying the premise of the anti Wonderland premise is gold. I love the character Gert and hope there's a good pay off for the adventure that lies ahead.
>>
the art's great
>>
>>77579079
It's pure gold for reaction images.
>>
>>77579079
It's alright. Seems like it needs to properly find where it wants to stand and where it wants to go, but it's, at this pont, average to alright.
>>
I wish the MC didn't kill everything on a dine. Hard to sympathize with her.

Not bad actually, I read the second issue and thouroghly enjoyed it. I feel like the second issue was a tad bit shorter but nonetheless got the story across.

I'm sticking with it as it seems to be enjoyable.

I do enjoy the art at the back of each issue.
>>
Scottie Young's art is great, I love seeing him do something other than those Marvel baby variants.

I like the main premise, but it didn't quite get an impressive start. I'm looking forward to seeing it develop.
>>
#2 just came out right?
Gotta get reading that
>>
Young is a great artist, and he's got a concept I like, but he's not a writer. I didn't really like his Rocket Raccoon stories, so he really needs someone who can channel his sensibility, but better.

Good art, not very funny writing. The art style is what's keeping me visit the story time threads.

Probably the worst execution of a really good concept I've ever seen. It's trying so hard to be edgy, but if you made a PG version of it, it would be a million times better.

I don't really see it as trying that hard to be edgy. They use funny fairyland swears in place of actual ones all the time, and the violence is pretty cartoonish, not visceral or realistic at all.

The end. The build up isn't even worth the cliff hanger they give you, but hey just the messenger.

Yeah, its the kind of empty edge they'd love.
>>
Kind of wanted Cloudia's vendetta against Gertrude fleshed out. The Huntsman could have at least lived long enough to be questioned.
>>
What seems to be going on, is that the whole land has been nurfed so that kids could compete quests with minimal risk. The bad guys look tough, but are actually pushovers. This of course backfires in that they are I'll equipped to deal with a single human girl that is operating outside the program. And of course she has probably leveled up in her years of dungeon crawling.

What makes this comic work better than The Unfunies? The art style? Being so over the top?
>>
>>77587359
Maybe you should storytime that in a thread, for comparison.
>>
>>77587359
to me it has a sort of charm that captures me and I really enjoy it. Something the unfunnies (not a bad comic) does not have.

Then again I love the art style and it is over top so to me it is more of a guilty pleasure.

I've already had my fill of shitty subversive fairy tale comics with Sugar Bits, and this CRAWLING IN MY SKIN comic that refuses to depict big battles hasn't convinced me to get back into it.
>>
>>77582971
yeah that really turned me off. To have that build up and just skip the fight like that is annoying. I mean it works as a gag, if you've built characters up right. But to just skip over the first major challenge we see is kind of a fuck you to the audience. Makes me think he has no intention of adding action to the comic, it'll just be gross out and implied violence.
>>
>>77590930
>I've already had my fill of shitty subversive fairy tale comics with Sugar Bits,

Did Sugar Bits subvert anything? I thought it was just Bleedman's shameless pedo bait.
>>
Everything Can Be Beaten was better.
>>
>>77590988
Maybe not, but it was my first exposure to "cute and colorful shit but GRIMDARK". I Hate Fairyland here (more like I Hate This Comic hurr) looks like more of the same.

Heck, both Young and Bleed have something in common: Great artists, shit writers.
>>
I'm a big fan of his style. Usually mashups of cute and gruesome don't sit with me but he does it in such a cartoonish way it ends up being a shade of tasteful. The story itself is alright, I hope all cliffhanger endings aren't all dealt with between issues.

I'll hang onto this one for a while, it has a lot of potential.
>>
>>77580401
whose this character?
>>
>>77591451
The artist who drew her, probably.
>>
>>77582170
You know, when kids (sometimes toddlers) find out that it feels good to touch themselves they start doing it a lot. Usually parents censor them into feeling guilty or explain that they should do that in a reserved space.

I wonder how things went for her being trapped in fairyland on her own...
>>
>>77582354
>>77582379
Probably the effects are limited and temporary. She is exactly as before again after all.
>>
>>77583778
Even if you say that she really got really nasty wounds right in her first seconds in this world. If anything she got lucky to survive her first years and got stronger over the time until she became that character grinded to lvl 9999
>>
>>77590031
The mushrooms were not willing to have their heads eaten, the huntsman was not willing to let her cut his head. Will is not an obstacle to her.

There are rules set up to not screw with the visitors. That's why the queen is sneaking around with hiring hit men.
>>
>>77592785
The rules only stop the queen from doing so. That's exactly why she is using a loophole to use others for that. And my point is "why the common folk aren't afraid of her" she is like a time-bomb capable of destroying entire cities but the bar bear casually serves her while she talks with a disembodied head. If anything this is the indication that this fairy land is indeed fucked up making the theory that she was supposed to die in a week much more likely.
>>
>>77592846
>If anything this is the indication that this fairy land is indeed fucked up making the theory that she was supposed to die in a week much more likely.

Oh fucking god, it's you again
>>
>>77592894
Who?
>>
>>77591983
She probably has every kink that doesn't require an underlying disorder to have
>>
So if and when Gertrude does get home, how will she adjust to returning to the real world?
>>
>>77596159
She won't. The ending will have her dried up and drinking herself to death in a bar, the only moments of happiness she has is when she's high enough to think she's back in Fairyland.
>>
>>77596159
When she gets back, there was a nuclear holocaust and everyone she knew is dead and the buildings are in ruins.
>>
It's an interesting premise but reading it is much more annoying than it should be.

So if Gertude leaves Fairyland, she will turn into the personification of diabetes? I guess that ultimately means she's stuck there.

Actually hoped she'd gain an adult form.
>>
>>77601908
There's just no telling. Usually these kinds of scenarios involve the outside world being time-stopped. If the fantasy world goes that far, it is probably safe to assume she will just be a kid as she was when she left. If some other person falls in, I guess it would mean that time is still moving on the outside. Then all bets are off. I imagine the writer will try to come up with some situation that nobody would see coming.
>>
>>77601588
Or maybe she knows a good tailor. I don't think anything other than her age is in a vacuum since she still has a fucked up mouth from her first time in Fairyland or whatever.

Cloudia's hatred for Gertude seems to go beyond queenly concern for her kingdom and right to a personal grudge.

>>
>>77603143
She was never nice to Gertrude to begin with. Never showed any concern over her well being specially considering that Gertrude arrived scared and with serious wounds and
>>
>>77604029
It's hard to know her full nature, without knowing what happened to the other visitors. Do they return with the key and then someone scurries out and resets the game? Could the last kid have left with the key in their pocket? Could it be that no kid has ever survived this long? Could no key have ever existed? Does Cloudia even know?
>>
>>77604320
If anything I think the "dark fairy land" trope is a safe bet. I don't think there will be anything revolutionary or surprising in this comic. It looks like a happy magical place but actually is a fucked up dystopic world.

But I think there is a lot of world building potential and I like that. I hope it won't go to waste.
>>
If Gertrude 'normal' accumulated every bit of cancerous fat a normal human would when on a diet like that, why didn't she also have grievous wounds, considering that she busted bones the moment she dropped into Fairyland, to the point one of her arms was poking out her flesh?
>>
>>77605694
It wasn't dystopian before she came along.
>>
>>77605997
Maybe that is more a "fuck your wish" thing than an "literally what you wish" thing.

It looked like the niceness is a facade. They all act "nice" but none of them care to take care of her wounds or give her a nice welcome party.

Also there are assassins, witches, zombies, drugs, etc. those things weren't created by her.
