AKA Aggressively Cute Robots: The Movie

Discuss.
>tfw you're probably the only one on /co/ who actually likes this movie
>>
It's pretty far up there on my list of favorites. I kinda wish they'd cut out everything with John and Mary, though. It felt forced.
>>
>>77551367
>like 3 scenes that last less than 15 seconds each

Besides, it ain't like the movie is subtle about its themes, so why does THAT bother you?

What the fuck? People love WALL-E. You're thinking of Cars, anon.
>>
>>77551460
"Forced" doesn't mean too long, it means it didn't fit. The "accidental hand graze=love" trope, and the cringey "get ready to have some kids" line didn't add anything to the movie for me. It doesn't help that the latter happened during the climax and screwed with the mood with Wall-E at the podium.
>>
>>77551722
I wouldn't doubt the extent of /co/'s contrarian tendencies
>>
>>77551763

I think the stuff with those two was to show that the common citizens of the ship could/wanted to change.
>>
WALL-E and the the Iron Giant are true heroes
>>
>>77551812
Eh, I guess. I think just the captain's scenes were enough, though, even if they weren't representative of the common citizens. It's not like the guy gave off an air of superiority or detachment.
>>
>>77551882
Didn't someone make a little comic strip about Iron Giant poking fun at the Man of Steel neck snap meme?

Anyone ever play Metal Arms: Glitch in the System? The first half or so of the movie felt so similar to that, I half-expected Wall-E and EVE to be attacked by Mils and zombiebots.

Wall-E got rid of any need for a sequel in the credits, which I don't think I've ever seen another movie do. Also, after Cars 2 and MU I'm scared of Pixar sequels.

Does the movie really need a sequel though? The story is done. Any continuation is pointless aside from some random hi-jinks, and in that case you may as well make an animated series.

I like how every robot is clearly presented as possessing human-levels of sentience and personality and individuality to them, but they only give a fuck about anything other than their Directive only when meeting Walle.

And the exact same thing applies to the humans: they're only given awareness of anything other than their hover chairs, when they meet Walle.

I like how the movie avoids any of that "DA MACHINES WILL RISE" bullshit. All the robots are just doing their jobs. Even AUTO, though shortsighted and refusing to listen to reason, is just following his directive.

>>77552072
>Wall-E got rid of any need for a sequel in the credits
Thank goodness for that credits sequence, too. After the hour and a half of cute robots doing cute things, if there was no confirmation of the robots helping the humans rebuild, this movie would be depressing as fuck.

I think my favorite thing about this movie is that it proves that characterization is not dependent on dialogue. The two leads say about two-three words total, and yet they have very clear personalities and character arcs.

>>77552426
Because it contributes to the fantastic atmosphere.

The film really has a strong sense of setting.

In a giant ship that recycles everything in order to remain completely self-sustaining, the Wall-As shouldn't exist.

I was obsessed with this movie when it came out. I watched it over 50 times when the DVD came out (even kept a counter for a while). Participated in that silly Wall-E forum (rip), read every fic available on fanfiction.net (most were meh, a couple in particular were GOAT), even made a shitty drawing.

Haven't actually watched it in years. Probably should view it again some time to see how it's held up. I remember the DVD had some deleted scenes that really expanded the lore of the movie. It seems like at one point Stanton was working with a draft that explained all the dark shit that went down on Earth when the space liners left. Basically, the BnL cruisers were advertised as exotic vacations for the rich, only once they left Earth they were never actually meant to come back (too polluted; this much still shows up in the movie ). The liners were limited though, so those who couldn't fit in to the ships, or afford to do so, were stranded on Earth. One of the deleted scenes shows the last distress call of the President, abruptly cut off as hordes of angry people broke into the room. Imagine the twisted Mad Max apocalypse social structure that took hold on Earth, at least before atmospheric poisoning wiped everybody out. The movie tries to hide this by showing the last message of the President with him wearing a breathing mask and getting ready to board a space liner. Still, considering how many people are on Earth in this future, I find it unlikely everybody managed to get on a liner and escape the planet safely. Even if you accept that because of Disney-logic, they're all still floating in space who knows where.

Wall-E is pretty fucking dark. I mean it's a kids movie, but damn.

>>77555248
It's too bad they fucked up so hard with the third game. I'm not sure where they got the idea that their audience was mainly autistic spergmeisters who loved the fucking number game over anything else, because the audience sure as fuck didn't bite when they removed all of the heart and personality and replaced it with endless tedious grinding.
>>
>>77556024
It's a cockroach man, they're some of the hardiest motherfuckers on the planet.
Also insects that large tend to have quite the grip strength, and since they're in space there's likely no attrition either. I'd be more worried about the sprout if that were the case.
>>
>>77567785

So like, realistically, the loss of bone mass due to micro-gravity has screwed with the Axiom humans overall structural integrity yes? The fat they can just work off, but their actual skeletal structure has been weakened.

Dos this mean they will compensate through cybernetics? I would. Hell, there's almost no way the folks on one of the other starliners hasn't gone full on Cybermen by now.

>>
>>77570931
Honestly, I'd be okay with that, because like AUTO, the cyber-humans attempting forced conversion wouldn't be entirely wrong(let's assume the death of personality thing doesn't happen). The humans have become physically mutated for the worse, and Earth itself still won't be entirely habitable.

In those 700 years, who knows what happened. There could be several melted down nuclear plants, the local wildlife has likely mutated to survive(or there's a lack of critters to eat at all), the plants have obviously changed to thrive in the devastated land, and one can only imagine the various toxins and shit still choking the air. For all we know, there might not even be enough habitable area for all the humans to come back.

The credits showed that the humans aren't completely fucked, but still.

I guess Asimov's laws go out the window when your sentient robot probably costs more than a nuclear power station.

I do like how often she uses it on earth though. It's clear that whatever programming she was given, "plasma cannon the shit out of anything that even looks like it could damage you" was a pretty high priority.

No, they stay right where they are. There's nothing inherently harmful to humans about the presence of a weapon. It is used in accordance with the laws.

Probably one of my favorite movies. It doesn't get enough love.

The EVE probes are presumably sent to other potentially habitable planets, which may very well be home to hostile lifeforms.

Again, kinda Metroid-y that way in that planetary exploration is best done by no-nonsense career women wielding hideously overpowered weaponry.

I love this movie a lot, but I feel like the first half is better than the second half.

All the scenes of WALL-E and EVE on Earth are absolutely brilliant. They could have made the whole movie just about that and I would have watched the fuck out of it.

The scenes on the Axiom are a mixed bag. The Captain kind of takes the movie away from WALL-E and EVE for a good chunk of screentime. He was awesome, but I want to watch more of the two leads.
But the scenes with just WALL-E and EVE (or the other robots, M-O being one of the best characters) are as great as the ones with them on Earth.
Didn't really care about John and Mary.

That's because it is. The atmosphere and lack of dialogue, along with just WALL-E and EVE being the cutest ever made it feel like a film version of one of the better Pixar shorts. The Axiom stuff is fine, but the movie would be better if everyone continued to not speak.

Thats the problem with newfags, they never lurk enough to know how a board actually is.

Ehh, I kinda agree with you buy we still got a lot of EVE and WALL E, like when they were flying in space.
