>not John D. Rockerfeather
Ya dun goofed, Barks.
>>
What exactly is his personality anyway? In what way is he different from Glomgold?
>>
>>77550448
Barks only ever used him in one story near the end of his career. For some reason he took off in Europe. Maybe it's because he was more "American" than White South African Glomgold?
>>
>>77550479
Maybe it's simply because he lives closer to Scrooge and thus they have more possibilities to meet.
>>
>>77549538
Quackerfeller would also work, I feel.
>>
>>77550479
People didn't like putting Glomgold in the stories during apartheid. Disney changed him to Scottish like Scrooge when Ducktales came around. Maybe Rockerduck was an easy substitute.
>>
>>77550448
Rosa had a good idea for a difference.

Scrooge worked for his money. Glomgold st9le and swindled it. Rockerduck just inherited it, so he's a braggart who doesn't know the value of hard work, like a Gladstone for Scrooge

Excuse me, but in Glomgold's case, the correct term is "Boer".
At least that's what he said he was in The Life and Times of $crooge.
>>
I guess he was like lesser villain to Scrooge. Glomgold pretty much wants Scrooge dead, don't know about Rockerduck tho.
>>
Barks cannot goof
>>
>>77551285
Rockerduck's Scrooge's main antagonist in a lot of European countries, to the point where the casuals in those countries think Glomgold's just an early discarded version of Rockerduck.
>>

>>
>>77550479
It's not even Europe as a whole, but mostly Italy (also Brasil, I think). Scandinavian comics often use both, although they never portray Glomgold as Buer, but as Scottish like Scrooge.

in European(mostly Italian) stories, though, the difference is different.
There, Rockerduck is usually he first one jumping on new ways to make money, like dotcoms, green economy, etc, with Scrooge playing the part of the old fossil stuck in the past... until he surpasses Rockerduck at his own game

In older stories, there was more a portrayal of Rockerduck as a New Rich, enjoying\wasting money.

Also, in a sort of roles-reversal over time, in older Italian stories Scrooge had no problem whatsoever cheating, contra-banding, industrial thieving, etc while that role has become, over the years, mainly Rockerduck's

Still, Rockerduck is usually portrayed as perfectly competent Number #2 only because Scrooge is absurdly lucky.
>>
>>77551553
Nigga, those Italian-written Duck comics were all over Yurop.

glomgold is in many ways meaner and more rotten, hes also despicted as being about as cheap as scrooge himself
Rockerfeather is willing to spend big money if it means he wins, he also has an obsession with eating his hats for some reasons, i think it started as him saying "i will eat my hat if scrooge wins" and it took off from there
>>
>>77551761

>>77553003
It is. Rockerduck won.
>>
>>77552852
IIRC it originated as a joke: "I'll eat [something unlikely] if I lose" is(was?) a common expression in Italy, and they used it as a joke having Rockerduck actually eating his hat.

It became a recurring gag whenever Rockerduck would lose. He also became quite the gourmet about hats.

>>77550448

>>
>>77549538
Glomgold is as stingy and greedy as Scrooge, but utterly murderous and downright nasty when he wants to be. He tried to kill Scrooge and his nephews in his final Barks story and is willing to lie, cheat or steal to make money.

Rockerduck is Scrooge's business rival, willing to spend money and splurge to make more money where Scrooge won't. He's nasty, troublemaking and often duplicitous, but not evil.

I want to say that it was established somewhere that Rockerduck is the 3rd richest duck just under Glomgold but I can't really think of where.
>>
>>77553637
doesn't he have some sort of manservant to do the dirty work if such a need arises in the Italian stories?
>>
>>77554333
Glomgold also works with the likes of Magica. I dunno if Rockerduck's ever sunk that low.
>>
>>77554486

glomgold only used the beagle boys or magica if anything
>>
>>77554501

Of course he has, though he's not above acting himself(he actually does it quite often)

Still, he's not going to, say, let an environmental disaster happen just to win one over Scrooge, or just to make some more money.

>>77554543
In Italian stories, he's always called Lusky(from Losco->Shady, sly)
>>
>>77554692
>Quackmore
Wasn't that his relative? The Ducktales butler was named Ducksworth, not sure about the Italian one - he's called Battista in the original, but he was Harpagon in some translations, after the epnonymous character from Molier's The Miser.

>>77554712
In Polish translation he's named Lizoos (lizus = lackey, toady)
>>
The way I always understood it was this:

Only Scrooge was tougher than the toughies, smarter than the smarties, and made his fortune square.

Glomgold was tougher than the toughies and smarter than the smarties. Rockerduck made his fortune square.

Rockerduck is also smarter of the smartest.
He's just unlucky and not as hardcore as Scrooge, though he's no light-weight... him and Scrooge OFTEN end up in fistcuffs without a clear winner

>>77554825
That's, I think, from Italian Story and Glory of the Duck Dynasty- in that story, Scrooge's family and Rockerduck's family were rivals since the Roman Empire
>>
>>77554773
No - Battista's English name has been Quackmore for quite a long time now. Duckworth only exists in Ducktales or DT comics stories.
>>
What's the deal with that Italian Beagle Boy who's a normal, non-humanoid dachshund? Is this some meta joke I'm not getting
>>
>>77554937
A lot of the Italian shit is weird, like Scrooge's secretary not only not being old but also having a human figure. The Italians clearly want to fuck the ducks but only get aroused by the bills, not the actual duck shape
>>
>>77555003
Italian duck continuity can be weird. They do their own things that nobody else does. There's a lot of really good Italian stuff and Italian characters but they clearly have their own way of interpreting the ducks that nobody else does.
>>
>>77554937
Yeah.
The Italian name of the Beagle Boys is Banda Bassotti==Dachshund Band.
So OBVIOUSLY they have a mascot dog who is a dachshund.

He's even called Ottoperotto(8x8), because he's BassOTTO BassOTTO(Dachshund Beagle, Otto=Italian for 8), his dogtags being, of course, 64

>>77555003
Scrooge's secretary being young is relatively recent, fanon wants her the successor to Miss Quackfaster, who retired because old age.
>>
>>77551012

The only good thing to come out of the show was Launchpad. But I've never seen him integrated into the comics, unless I'm just out of the loop.

>>
>>77555123

>>
>>77555123
That's awfully presumptuous given the Dutch, Brazilian and Netherlands have been producing Disney material for just as many years as Italy and doing just fine as well, but whatever. I think each country has its own little quirks that I like and dislike, but I dont think one is more wrong or right than the other. The only country that got it completely wrong was America because Dell/Gold Key fucked American duck and mouse fans over royally and the market never recovered
>>

>>
>>77555080
The joke is lost in a lot of translations, German one is Achtmalacht (8x8 too) which makes no sense as a reference to their name (as other anon said before, just "safebreakers")

In Polish they gave up and it's "Bereks" - Reks/Reksio is a popular dog name, Be standas for Beagle Boys/Bracia Be

There's quite a lot of continuity in this stuff which really surprised me.

>>77555341
I like him a lot, honestly, the style is very expressive and he does ok monsters considering the limitations of the setting.

Out of the Italian artists, I like Enrico Faccini a lot - his style is pretty unique (and works really well for Fethry - it seems to be his favorite character anyway), while most of the other Italian stuff all looks the same to me. He also did Fethry x Spider-Man fanart

Gladstone and Gemstone had started with Romano Scarpa years ago. Disney all but ignored Italian material. Unfortunately, outside of Darkwing Duck which was made in the states, a lot of what Boom did wasn't handled well at all. Some was but not a lot. Fethry's a good character who was handled badly for decades. The Anerican stuff they've been choosing with him in it (especially the original American made studio stories) have warned me up to him quite a bit. >>77555623
How long is IDW supposed to have the licenses for Disney comics? I can't see them delivering anything but 'italian duck comics:the greatest hits' in the Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge books.
