Bad idea.

Start with #252 after Worlds Collide, you can even read Worlds Collide first, it's newcomer friendly as long as you have basic knowledge of video games.

Then read up until Worlds Unite and skip it. That's actually the thing that I would suggest you to skip. Personally, I thought it started out okay, but then it went to shit. Nose dive is ridiculous.

Don't forget about Sonic Universe. I don't think there ever was a bad Sonic Universe arc, even during Endangered Species it remained decent.

>>77545314
From what people have gathered, Nepthys is actually a woman, and so far she tops the charts in terms of most menacing amongst the Egg bosses. Also, Thunderbolt isn't really sympathetic despite looking cuddly and having a crush on Eggman, and there's always Wendy Witchkart though she's not an original character.

All in all I think the deer are the token sympathetic villains thus far.
>>
>>77545385
True, but we still haven't delved into their backstories yet.
>>
>>77545278
>>77545192
Wow, I'm dumb. I meant Collide, not Unite. For whatever reason, I thought, "well, Sonic and Mega Man work together, so it would be Unite first. Then, with all the characters from all over showing up in the next one, they would be 'colliding.'"

>>77545211
I'm used to getting occasionally shunned for my opinions (;__;), but Unleashed was easily my favourite of the more recent Sonic games I've played. So this is basically what I've always wanted. And StH is known for its large cast, something else that I like, so yeah.

>>77545326
Oh... well, 30+ issues is a good length for an adaptation to me. My only question is where would the book go from there? I should start reading this now.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm thinking of just sticking to StH and SU for now. So skipping Worlds Collide and Unite, and maybe after I've caught up, I'll check out Mega Man and work my way to the crossovers then.

Even still, the third game adaption was kind of rushed, and the second adaption was a bit weak. It really needed more time to be its own thing, I feel.
>Mega Man going on "hiatus"
It just isn't fair.
>>
>>77545416
After catching up with Unleashed adaptation, I suggest you to catch up with Golden Age of Archie's Sonic.

Which is #172-200. That was the best this comic ever was, and now it's pretty much irrelevant, but it's still a fun read all the way through. Not that everything after is worse, but several issues started to be transparent, like Sonic being chained to New Mobotropolis, King Naugus arc taking its sweet fucking time and then Ken Penders happened.

Optional: start with #160, but up until #172 Ian was just cleaning up mess that was left by other writers. Requires some knowledge about Archie's Sonic, because Tommy the Turtles might be literally who to you, but I fucking hate him.
>>
>>77545487
and it was just started to get good again,

Didn't the former editor for World Unite have a huge boner for Xander Payne and forced him into every panel of the comic?

Later on under Flynn, this is the best they could do with that design.

...God Penders had no imagination whatsoever. Like all the Echnidnas were for the most part clones of Knuckles, only a handful were a color other than red, and they all had Knuckles's dreads with hair just kind of awkwardly growing from their forehead.

I've been thinking about getting into Archie's Sonic comics. There's a lot of stuff butI'm not sure if it's been rebooted or anything or what I probably should skip. I've heard some of the stuff is pretty terrible. But some of it seem to be pretty good too.
>>
>>77546771
If you do, I say just go ahead and read them all. It's a lot to marathon through, but a lot of it really is "have to see to believe".
>>
>>77546771
1-50 is decent. After that there's a large decline in quality. There's a few good parts in there, but majority is shit.

At 160, a new writer (and still current writer) takes over and immediately brings the quality back up.

At 252, the comic reboots basically, removing all characters and concepts that were tied to previous writers due to a lawsuit (and supposedly another one might occur).

My suggestion on where you should start solely depends on your commitment to it. Starting at 252 is the easiest. Starting from the beginning is a long painful, but more rewarding journey. The most recommended way to get into it that I've seen is to read from the beginning til you get tired of it, then skip to 160.

If you do decide to check out the pre-reboot stuff, the best advice I can give is don't get too attached like I did.

Jumping into the reboot run is easy. It's a mostly clean slate, with the only mess up I think it has for new readers is the memory thing they did.

Jumping into the pre-reboot run would be a bit more difficult. Ian loved taking the old stuff the comic did, even if it was shit, and make it work/turn it into gold. As such, you would need to know about some of these things. Reading from the beginning is the best way to know it, but there is a huge fucking wiki you can use to look up stuff you don't know.
>>
>>77545242
Nah, just about half. Nepthyr's looking pretty straightforward as a villain.
>>
>>77545487
Really, it didn't need more time. It needed to stop adapting the Wily Castles. They were story poison.
>>
>>77547256
I hope so.

But even so, I just find this sort of stuff grating.
>>
>>77547419
I think you're trying to find a pattern to get angry about when there isn't one. As others have mentioned, Wendy and Thunderbolt and Breezy are all not sympathetic. We have more straightforward evil or morally ambiguous female antagonists than we do sympathetic ones. Hell, Cassia and Clove aren't that different from Baron Beauregard's shtick or Bill Platypus'. There's no gender barrier to being evil or somewhat tragic.
>>
>>77546931
>Starting from the beginning is a long painful, but more rewarding journey
>rewarding
Even googling wikia isn't fucking worth it. There's nothing rewarding about reading 160 issues of mediocre at best to abysmal shit shit.

Reading anything below 160 is a test, test to the autism.

>>77547479
It's not a question of sympathy, it's a question of tragic pasts. We haven't seen T-Bolt's or Wendy's yet but Breezie clearly has had something go wrong (and that's ignoring her clearly false orphan backstory).

At any rate the whole 'I had no other choice' thing is just, eh.
>>
>>77545080
I thought the mole was looking away out of shyness being in front of someone who he admires until >>77545101
>>
>>77545242
I don't think this is a trend.

Most of the Egg Bosses are in it for themselves. Tundra was an asshole even before joining Eggman, Thunderbolt and Nepthyr are loyal to Eggman and we don't know what Conquering Storm's backstory is now. Phage is also pretty evil.

The only ones with sympathetic backstories so far are the deer sisters and Axel Buffalo (and that is not even much of a sympathetic backstory more than "I just don't wanna be roboticized.")

I think you may be jumping the gun a little bit.
>>
>>77547753
We didn't know Conquering Storm's backstory before. She's just a ninja clan master who was forced into union by Iron Dominion.
>>
>>77548253
Yeah, but it was the same motivation as Tundra in the new series. She's still a dick, just one that will change loyalty to whoever she thinks is strongest in the land.

Nonsense. Have you read the Bollers and Gallagher stuff? I hate that people completely ignore the comics before Flynn came on board just because of Penders. He wasn't the only writer this comic had before Ian Flynn. The Karl Bollers and Mike Gallagher stuff blows everything Flynn has done out of the water.

While I don't hate his work, yeah Ian can be pretty cringey. He's better than Penders by a landslide, but calling his work the best of the Archie series is ridiculous. To be fair, most readers are probably too young to be familiar with the works of Gallagher or Bollers.
