I prefer that if they make gay characters just make a gay character, not turn an existing character or give a new guy an old identity so you can go "Giant Man is gay!" or whatever.
The reality is I'd prefer it if there wasn't an "every book must have one or more gay characters because it has to reflect diversity" because forced diversity is garbage and you're overrepresenting an incredibly fractional part of the population anyway but that's not going to happen so just create new characters.

What bothers me more about diversity is that it's always justified in terms of realism - "oh, this must look like America" - and that's sometimes true, but it's actually incredibly realistic to have all-white or all-black or all-whatever groups, not to mention groups with no openly gay people in them.
The point is really the idea that fiction has a duty to make us better people by showing us the way things should be, which is certainly arguable, but can lead to some pretty crappy art.
Though of course this goes all the way back to when Lee and Kirby put a black guy on the Howling Commandos, even though it wasn't really realistic to have an integrated squad in WWII, because they wanted to set a good example.

That, but also Bob Harras is one of those EiCs who prefers talent he can control and doesn't trust "star" writers. So in 2000 you had Chris Claremont back on X-Men for one of the worst-received comebacks of all time (though I don't know how much it was his fault), Harras's crony Howard Mackie fucking up Spider-Man, etc.
Supposedly Harras got fired because the publisher asked him who should write Ultimate Spider-Man and he suggested either Scott Lobdell or Howard Mackie. Quesada suggested Brian Bendis and got the trust of the publisher.
Quesada's thing was using writers who were either already famous for something else (Straczynski, Smith) or who were genuine comic-book stars (Morrison). The old guard at Marvel did not trust star writers, they wanted the characters to be the stars, which is not a bad attitude, but it often led to some hacky writing.

It beggars belief that Scarlet Witch has shot back to prominence in AoU and Civil War (and Joss had to fight for that) yet they are not capitalizing on that in any Avengers books. Yet every other character who appears in MCU (Iron Man, Rocket, Starlord) gets promoted like crazy. Fuck, even in the MCU she gets the shaft when it comes to promotion.
My fear is what will happen in the gap between Civil War and Infinity War.
She appears to be heading into the mystic universe now. Only book outside her own she appears in is Doctor Strange.
I have a feeling her departure from the Avengers is going to be very long-term.

Each month it's a complete self-contained story where he's working for someone new. Periodically he rotates back to the Avengers in one form or another, but it's always fun and inventive and doesn't fuck around or turn him into some garbage action hero.
So like SHIELD, Atlas, Attilan, Atlantis, SWORD... plus all the little shitty outfits that everybody forgets about. HATE. ARMOR. WAND. STRIKE. SAFE. The TVA. X-Factor. Damage Control.
People need a cleaner, they need it done right, they call Jarvis.
