In general, I dislike asshole characters who get others into embarrassing situations, deep shit and direct danger due to not fucking doing like they're told in a clearly threatening situation and also not really thinking at all about anything other than themselves and what they fancy doing right that instant (maybe go touch something shiny or cute). See; Greg in over the Garden Wall, Steven in Steven Universe in the early episodes, Anna from Frozen, occasionally (often) Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls etc.
There seem to be a lot of them nowadays and they're sort of "redeemed" by having them pull a completely uncharacteristic sudden wise or unselfish move at one point, but it doesn't change the fact that they're essentially loud and unthinking assholes. I don't get the appeal. It's not "cute", it's fucking obnoxious. Poor upbringing and selfishness, pretty much. "Oh but they make fart sounds and laugh a lot (in all the wrong situations), they're kooky and funny!" No.

I didn't really like Greg until the final quarter of the show. He didn't seem capable of showing any emotion outside of being annoyingly quirky, regardless of the tone of the situation they were in.
As the situation gets worse near the end I thought the show was starting to do better at showing him as an optimistic little kid as opposed to forced comic relief.
