Anyone else in the waiting room?
>>
>>77451540
No, I prefer to go to comic book conventions.
>>
>>77451540
Yep
>>
room crashed wtf
>>
What do you guys check out at SDCC these days?
>>
>>77451892
did hall H last year for star wars

got in line at 1pm on thurs, took 2h shifts with friends, finally got badges at 11pm. made friends with camp-out-ers and bribed them with promise of breakfast so i got to sleep in my hotel room.

came back at 6:30-7am. shit's too crazy.

would not even have considered that for anything besides star wars
>>
>>77451892
I like going to the exhibit hall, going to the DC comics panels, see the premier for whatever DC animated movie and last year was my first time in Hall H which was fun.
>>
>>77451892
hall h saturday, regular panels and signings the rest of the time
>>
>>77451973
I did it for Batman v Superman, Warcraft and Deadpool.

Totally worth the sleep depravity.
>>
People on preregistration can only buy badges for people who also are eligble for preregistration, right?

That means you can't buy badges for people who have never gone to SDCC before then.
>>
>>77452021
correct

got a circle of 10 we're all in chat now. two who can't even attend are either gonna buy tickets for others and/or get sunday passes for themselves to remain prereg eligible
>>
>>77452064
what that means for our new friends who want in is that if we can get our badges early we can also sign in during regular reg and try to get badges for them.

but for now, they're SOL
>>
>>77451892

Mostly the outdoor jazz, Adult Swim stuff and any C-list celebrities that I recognize.

If I get in for next year then I'm checking out more of the Gaslamp district; was passing through last year and bumped into Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who) and took a picture with him.
>>
>>77451540
Oh twin Gods of the spinning Blue Orbs and the great Yellow Box!

Bestow your greatness upon your humble servant!
>>
>>77451892
Exhibit hall for me, and maybe the odd panel or two. I do most of my trade buying at conventions hoping for really good discounts. I've had more luck at WonderCon though. It IS the better Con after all

Wait though, if you buy your own badge during pregistration, does that mean you can't enter during general registration?
>>
>>77452160
You can. Last year I was only able to get Sunday and Thursday prereistration. General registration I got Friday and Saturday.
>>
>>77452160
actually i honestly don't know.
>>
Still waiting on pro registration. Even if I get accepted I would still need to fight for a badge. Most of the pros have to do the same thing unless the big companies get their badges for them.
>>
Here we go.
>>
I feel like I spend more money on food and other outdoor stuff than buying stuff at the con.
>>
Best part of SDCC was buying all the limited edition stuff from Hasbro and Lego and all those companies.

Surely they will gain value over time, won't they?
>>
>>77452403
well $16 for a pretty basic 3 egger breakfast is outrageous.

gaslamp realizes they can milk you, and so they do
>>
>>77452431
probably
>>
>>77452431
last year i chatted up a guy who pays for his entire trip (and comes out a few grand ahead) via reselling the limited merchandise.

of course he ropes in his family as well to help, and it sounds crazy as fuck, but that's totally plausible

Why don't you guys just buy those $6 buck breakfast burritos in the convention center?

>>77452547
I know for some people selling things from SDCC is actually a living for them. I do it just for fun. I've seen people get nasty aggressive over getting in line for toys,

It's really shameful when a 40 year old neckbeard shoves a child out of the way to get a limited edition gold toy pony.

I hope you're going with friends. I got a 4 day pass last year, but I went by myself. I had some friends going too, but they were in their own groups.

That's why I opted out of preregistration this year. I want to go if only my friends back home can go with me in our own group. SDCC isn't that great if you're wandering by yourself all the time.
>>
Apparently they're gonna be shipping badges to buyer's homes now? Because that's not a clusterfuck waiting to happen.
>>
>>77452922
no, shipping will be later

they said there would be a chance to change addresses before badges ship, there's gotta be some sort of time between now and then
>>
>>77452922

Isn't that only for preregistration?
>>
>>77452961
No I think it's going to be for all the badges, that yellow box mentioned June.
>>

>>
I got really fast internet but my friend with the crappy connection always gets his passes. What am I doing wrong. Lol
>>

>>
>>77453059
fffffffffffff
>>
>>77453080
last year i got lucky and got 4day+prev during normal reg

when's the refund deadline, in case i get lucky again this year even though i'm likely to get at least a couple days in prereg
>>
>>77453022
How efficient was that? I've always wanted to go to NYCC at least once.
>>
>>77453118

Registration for the poor, unwashed masses is in February. It's all single day purchases now, so you shouldn't need to get a refund before buying the ones you missed.
>>
>Saturday running low...

I have a feeling this is going to be like two years ago where I had to buy a pass on the street despite living a few blocks from the convention center.

Welcome to San Diego, ese'.

In all serious, lucky you living in San Diego. I went there last year to visit a friend and she lives in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods to wake up in. San Diego is very scenic and it's just a nice place to be.

I envy you.

Oh, boy I can't wait to shill out a ridiculous amount of money for tickets, travel, and hotels just so I can camp out in hall full of smelly neckbeards at Le Geek Is Chic Pop Culture Con masquerading as a comic convention. All so I can see a preview for a summer blockbuster that will more than likely be shit before the rest of the public sees it on YouTube in a couple months for free.

Woo hoo! SDCC!

I hope ISIS plans an attack on you fucks.

>>
>>77453869

2010. It still took a few months to sell out in 2009. Though at the time attendee prereg was still only at the con.
>>
>>77453889
Making comics is fun. Reading comics is fun.
Spending a ton of money to sit in a crowded hall to watch a trailer for whatever shit movie that's coming out based on corporate comic properties is not fun. You should get your head examined.
>>
>>77453889
Same here bro, did you manage to get all four tickets? I just got Sunday for pre-reg, don't wanna face open-reg because I know it will be brutal.
>>
>>77453960
You know SDCC is more than just Hall H, right?
>>
>>77453953
Last years comic con was by far the best for me and I did not step foot in Hall H or any of its line.

Seriously if you dont get off the beaten path for comic con you are wasting your time.
>>
Stark reactions between overjoyed mofos who got all 3 or 4 days VS sad souls who got squat.
>>
>>77453953
Fun doing what?
Collecting garbage? You're spending money to be able to buy things.

The only reason to go to a big comic con like SDCC is to get your portfolio reviewed. Anything else is a waste of time, money, and energy.
>>
>>77453960
>sit in a crowded hall to watch a trailer for whatever shit movie that's coming out based on corporate comic properties is not fun

So don't go to Hall H. I certainly don't. At any given time there are twenty or thirty programming options available. Do one of those, or go look at shit in the main hall, or do something outside the con.

>>77453977
>did you manage to get all four tickets

I got nothing.
>>
>>77453960
Dude I don't like what SDCC has become either but there is still portions of the cons dedicated to people in comics, making comics, buying comics, and discussing comics. The fact a lot of comics related panels are smaller makes it more manageable to actually get in.
>>
>>77453760
I've wanted to go SDCC for years but the con has changed so much i don't think it's worth the trouble. If I go to a major convention it'll be C2E2 or NYCC
>>
>>77454125
Just go one day, that's what I'm doing. That way you keep your pre-reg status at the very least.

I focus more on WonderCon anyway.
>>
>>77454125
NYCC is just as bad as SDCC mate. I don't get near Ball 20 or Hall H, it's just too much of a waste of time - checking out the main hall, out in the field stuff and the random panel that is easier to get in lowers your stress levels and makes the con more enjoyable overall.
>>
>>77454024
I fucking have fun, I spend half of what everyone else does on the tickets, I meet my fav comic artists, comic writers and celebrities without going to Hall H and without even looking for them. I've gone to comic panels and they are smaller than other Comic conventions and more accessible since everyone is going to Hall H so I get to see everything I want.

Also inside the convention last year I got invited to a party at Hard Rock hotel and met Vin Diesel. I've also met cuties and gotten laid several times.

I don't even spend more than 400 bucks on the whole thing, tickets included and that kind of money is nothing for me because I have a good paying job.

Also I don't even think you've been to SDCC, lol like I said stay mad.
>>
>>77452833

Anyone else feel comicons are getting ridiculous?

I went to the phoenix one and there were only like 9 booths for comics, all the others were like posters for tv shows and dumb shit. I couldnt find certain comics that many should have.

I then went to a small fan fest and they had all this cool comic shit, you know for fans.
>>
Real talk though: Why the fuck would anyone go to SDCC?

I mean I'm not the sort of beta that hates cons just because NORMIES REE,I usually like cons but SDCC just seems fucking miserable. Hundreds of thousands of people standing in line for hours in the punishing heat to see shit that's most likely to leak anyway.

What's the point?
>>
>>77456254

>>
>>77456254

and yet...
>>
>>77456254
the social aspect of it
but small cons are always better as >>77456111 said
but also the waiting around wiht hundreds of thousands of neckbeards also is really unappealling to me so im a bit biased
>>
>>77456254
>standing in line for soon-to-be-leaked trailers

yeah that's worthless for anything besides facebook/snapchat/twitter points

none of which i use, so i happily attend meet & greets, small panels, etc

i prefer wondercon now but sdcc is still fine.
>>
>>77456254
It's only the big name panels and events with lines that make you wanna shoot yourself. It might sound depressing but most of the panels and booths that deal in the actual business of making, selling, along with booths and panels for comic creators are super easy to attend and interact with because lines are nearly nonexistent.

It's just all overshadowed by the star power the con attracts.
>>
>>77456317
You seem to have missed the "I usually like cons" part. I've gone to two cons this year and I had a blast at both of them.

I even cosplayed as Captain Cold to one of them.
