Fuck, come to think of it NOBODY destroyed the city. The world engine flattened about 10 blocks near the Metropolis coast line, most of which had already been evacuated, and after that, Zod threw Clark through some buildings, most of which were shown on screen to be empty.
10 blocks crushed and a few buildings damaged does not a destroyed city make people.
A city worth of collateral damage is close to nothing compared to the whole fucking planet he saved.

Remember the first teaser for BvS? Remember that memorial park with the giant statue of Superman?
That was ground zero in Man of Steel. That park shows you the extent of the damage. Notice how it's only one small area in the midst of a massive city?
The damage was equal to several 9/11s, sure, but that's a far cry from an entire city being destroyed, and almost none of it was a direct result of Superman's actions.
