>Nearly thirty years ago, Frank Miller introduces us to an older, far more wizened Batman late in his career. But the newest Dark Knight project, Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade, will take us back to over ten years before this classic work, when Batman was still actively fighting crime with his previous Robin, Jason Todd, at his side, revealing the previously untold story of how Jason met his end in Frank Miller’s Dark Knight universe and featuring the first appearance of Miller’s Joker since his death in The Dark Knight Returns.

>Co-written by the DARK KNIGHT III duo of Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello, Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade will be a 64-page prestige format one-shot drawn by legendary artist John Romita, Jr.

Holy shit
>>
>revealing the previously untold story of how Jason met his end
>>
>>77434204
Holy shit!

They really did go back and tell the Millerverse Jason story.
Fuck yes
>>
Finally! I hope they also show how Harvey Dent became bald or how Bruno got those tats on her ass.
>>
What's the point? We already know the Ayatollah won't be in it this time, so who cares.
>>
>>77434288
This is a prequel.
>>
>>77434250
He'd gotten plastic surgery to fix his face and that would surely require him to be shaved for it. It probably just hadn't grown back yet.
>>
>JrJr talking about drawing noir

JrJr is the absolute best at drawing rain. capitalize!!
>>
Daaaamn that's rad
>>
So what's left in the Miller timeline? Basically the rest of ASBAR?
>>
>>77434351
Yeah, pretty much.
I think this checks off that last box
>>
>tfw Jasonfags are excited to see him die again

Is JrJr the only artist in history whose work gets worse with each passing year?
>>
Give us Dark Knight: Boy Wonder too, pls
>>
>>77434228
That came out after TDKR
>>
>>77434228
>in Frank Miller’s Dark Knight universe
>>
Jason is the Joker for real this time!
>>
>>77434204
>when Batman was still actively fighting crime with his previous Robin, Jason Todd, at his side, revealing the previously untold story of how Jason met his end in Frank Miller’s Dark Knight universe and featuring the first appearance of Miller’s Joker since his death in The Dark Knight Returns.

YES

Also I seriously hope they remember Batman was wearing the blue costume with the yellow oval on it, I was wondering why there was a preview panel of him wearing the Year One/All Star Batman suit.
>>
>>77434204
I hope this is at least readable insanity like DK1 and not incomprehnisble shit and madness like DK2
>>
Huh. Wouldn't TDKR Bruce not give a shit about Jason's brutality? This will be interesting to say the least.
>>
>>77434647
Who's to say that Jason was the same?
And maybe not TDKR, but ASBAR Bruce eventually realized that training a sociopath is a bad idea
>>
>>77434647
We don't know what Jason is like in the DKR universe. Remember that all we know about him is that Bruce described him as "a good soldier" who "honored him."

Remember that Dick Grayson in the DKR universe nearly killed Hal Jordan and became a Joker, so all bets are off.
>>
>>77434691
>>77434705
No. 2 isn't canon anymore. I refuse to accept that it is.
>>
>>77434716
>I refuse to accept that it is.
>TDKSA
>not Canon

It's confirmed we're getting black suit Barry
>>
So if Dick is the one who turned evil
Jason will be the good soldier who dies a tragedy
>>
>>77434716
2 is canon because 3 is going to refer back to it, and I wouldn't be surprised if this Jason story does foreshadowing for DK2 as well.
>>
>>77434783
And that it might do backshadowing for the rest of ASBAR
>>
>>77434204
>Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello

Azzarello is pretty good.

Frank Miller was great in the 20th century, but when he's left on his own, without editorial shooting down the shitty/blatantly racist ideas, he's awful and hillariously so
>>
>>77434551
Preview panel? From what?
>>
Does anyone here actually like DK2?

It was legit one of the worst comics I've ever read, and I couldn't tell what was more muddled, the art or the story. The smattering of cool ideas are drowned in a lake of shit ones.

If I had a scan of it I would do Story Time of Pain, purely because i want to inflict that story on the unsuspecting and laugh. But since i don't i might make a SToP thread anyways with the comics on my "burn this when die" drive.
>>
>>77434769
Yeah I hope Jason is like the opposite of Dick then.

Dick was just fine until Bruce ruined him, so it's only fitting that Jason is shit until Bruce makes him better.
>>
>>77434819
It was from an online article when JRJR was announced as working on a DKR prequel. I don't know for sure if the panel was a preview or just taken from his recent Superman work.
>>
>>77434881
>Does anyone here actually like DK2?

TDKSA has a lot of really awesome moments.
The plot itself is a mess and the art is off the wall, but "the worst"? In no way.
>>
>>77434731
Awesome, I love DKSA Barry

I hope we get some DKSA Hal too

>>77434881
Yes I genuinely like it
>>
>>77434911
Black Suit Barry and Cosmic God Hal are fantastic.
I hope Hal gets a minicomic as well.

But he's probably back with his Gumby alien family.
>>
>>77434881
It's quite beautiful, imo senpai
>>
>>77434204
HAPPENING!
>>
>>77434925
>But he's probably back with his Gumby alien family.
Probably, I wouldn't want his dinosaur herding to get interrupted again but I would like to see him
>>
>>77434883
Yeah, Bruce started to lighten up at the end of ASBAR, so in any case that might be carried in this prequel.

>>77434949
Yeah, maybe mentioned or in a flashback
>>
>>77434391
He was pretty good in his run with Remender on Captain America, or at least it really hit the tone of the book.
>>
>>77434881
In retrospect, I interpret Strikes Again as a Miller-ization of the Adam West TV show. Campy, colorful, bombastic with lots of 60s abstract-ness. Much like how I felt that DKR seemed to emulate the pre-Robin crime drama era that made Batman popular in the first few years after Detective Comics 27.

Is Bruce gonna beat Jason up for stealing his tires?
>>
>>77435109
>Golly
That is as weird as seeing Ennis/Ellis saying "Gosh darn."
>>
>>77435171
If anything Bruce will probably try to not do ASBAR 2.0 and will get him in the batmobile willingly. Using candy and nice words or something.
>>
>>77435144
Right up there with Invincible and the Weekend of Pain.
>>
>>77435217
>Weekend of Pain
That was lame. You do things too close together and it gets boring.
Self-generated hype.
>>
>>77435144
>Batman Year One
Damn good
>Holy Terror
Holy shit, its bad. All i remember are the dozens of pages of political characters from what I assume is his failed attempt to be the next Kelly. Also, he thinks terrorists are fond of shibari
>>ASBAR
So bad its good, the comic book.
>>ASBAR sequel
We will never get this, but if you read Batman Odyssey while on bath salts you'll get the same experience.

Spawn/Batman also takes place after All Star but before DKR (and probably before the DKR prequel)
>>
>>77435109
Oh, no, he looks waaaayyy healthier than he did a few months ago. He's gonna stick around to ruin more of the DKR Universe. Oh, well, it's his universe to ruin, I guess.
>>
>>77434892
I'm pretty sure only a teeny tiny bit of Kubert art is all that's come out so far
>>
>>77434881
Certain parts yeah.

The Atom, Question and Flash where pretty awesome.

>Jason will never get a happy ending
>>
>>77437598
At least in this universe it's safe to say that Bruce liked him more than Dick
>>
So, is this ongoing or what?

I really hate the idea. This is literally the only case when I agree with Grant Morrison. For Dark Knight Returns we didn't have to know the exact details of Bats's retirement, all we had to know is that he did and he's old and shit now. It's expanding upon one plot point of a previous work, so, wouldn't it make this work a lesser one?
>>
>>77435109

>tfw frank miller kind of looks like your grandpa
>>

>>
>>77437736
>Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade will be a 64-page prestige format one-shot
can you not read?
>>
>>77436929
Yep. People got upset at that book partly because Batman was a complete asshole in it. But it matches right up with his personality in DK2 and All Star Batman.
>>
>>77437736
Hey, I'd prefer leaving DKR alone too and I agree, there are some things that don't need to be explained. But then we got Spawn/Batman, DK2, All Star Batman, Holy Terror and now all this so I figure if they're going to over-explain the past and future, they might as well go all the way.
>>
>>77435144
Has anyone edited Holy Terror so it's a Batman book again?

>>
>>77438327
I'm sure Frank Miller drew Bat ears on every page of his own personal copy
>>
>>77438370
He probably kept the original roughs.
>>
>>77437636
Not really...
>>
>>77438430
Well, he fired and then killed Dick
>>
>>77438501
And in DKR when he goes after the Mutants he's all:
'Dick and Bruce riding dirty in the Bat-mobile'
'Dick where you at bruh'
'Dick please save me from this savage beating' 'Dick you saved me thank God'
>>
>>77438592
That's because he feels responsible for taking a kid and turning into a psycho
>>
>>77438501
Dick got fired
He goes crazy and starts killing people
gets locked up
goes on rampage again
gets killed
>>
>>77438684
No, it's more like

>goes crazy
>starts being treated nicely
>gets fired
>goes crazy again
>>
>>77438610
Or you know he just missed Dick
>>
>>77438732
>Or you know he just missed Dick
Don't we all?
>>
>>77438610
I don't quite think Miller had Dick being crazy in his original DKR plans so Bruce just missed him.
>>
>>77438788
Explaining the inconsistencies is half the fun
>>
>>77438788
Yup. Would've preferred if they had a bitter and estranged relationship, instead of what we got
>>
>>77438908
What I hope for in the continuation of ASBAR is something that shows that Bruce really cared about Dick
>>
>>77438908
the lifestyle of a vigilante breaking dick's mind is much more realistic than the idealized 12 year old who sees that much violence and changes in no way.
>>
>>77438948
Unfortunately there is no room for hope in the DKR universe.
>>
>>77439002
>Barry exists
>no hope
>>
>>77434647
TDKR Bruce wasnt THAT brutal. Maybe jason takes further than bruce would. Or maybe hes brash and reckless as fuck.
>>
>>77438997
If you are trying to seed ASBAR into DKR it's not the violence that would break his mind it's the Goddamn Batman that does the trick
>>
>>77439028
>Maybe jason takes further than bruce would. Or maybe hes brash and reckless as fuck.

All of Dick's traits already
>>
>>77439103
You referring to ASBAR?
>>
>>77439162
Yes.
We need Jason to be different.
>>
>>77439103
Jason can be like that as long as Bruce changes him for the better, duh
>>
>>77439173
But ASBAR was so dumb. Cant they just retcon that pile of shit?
>>
>>77439190
The perfect ending to ASBAR, would be Bats finding Jason and then flashing back to when he first saw Dick.
Just...that whole theme of potential and how to use it.
>>
>>77439103
Well maybe Bruce sees Dick in Jason and wants to fix him because he couldn't fix Dick or something.
>>
>>77439238
>not enjoying All-Star
>>
>>77439244
>Jason having potential
kek
>>
>>77434881
Yeah it's a good Justice League story.
>>
>>77439265
Not as a part of the TDKR timeline, no. Maybe as its own elseworlds.
>>
>>77439455
It only works as part of the TDK timeline.
it gives the backstory to Dick Joker.
>>
>>77439044
nope dick just couldn't handle all the violence and it broke him
>>
>>77434204
But does he get raped?
>>
>>77439238
pleb taste confirmed
one of the better batman works in the last decade
so good people still want more from miller and lee
>>
>>77439597
Pretty sure it was the kidnapping, the physical abuse, and Batman not allowing him to grieve had a hand in it too.
>>
Remember in the Dark Knight 2 when the president was shown to be nothing more than a Hologram owned by Lex Luthor? And how that was completely fucking retarded given that Superman had a conversation with the guy in person the first book?
>>
>>77439492
ASBAR is wildly different to TDKR in plot, themes, mood, characterization and so on. I cant see them being in the same timeline.

Batman gave him some speech about not dealing with your emotions and then dropped him into a pit where he went all kookoo.
