It's changed a lot over the years, but the biggest connection is that Kamen Riders draw their own power or abilities from the enemy faction that they fight. All the original Riders during the Showa era (1971-1989) are cyborgs or artificially-enhanced humans of some kind, and usually forcibly reconstructed by the villains that they later turn on and fight to destroy.
Heisei Riders (2000-today) are much more diverse in terms of origin and themes but keep that same aspect of "using the enemy's power against them".

It's a bit early to tell what you could compare Ghost to since we don't know how the characters, action or plot is going to develop.
If you like the aesthetic style so far, definitely check out the post-Decade Heisei series (W/Double onwards, skip Wizard because it's shit) as they have the same sort of cartoony, lighter tone that Ghost has started with.
Also, Den-O has similar comedic dynamics with its characters and Takeru has a bit in common with Ryotaro, the main character from that series.

Fourze did too many weird things towards the end that will put me off from saying it is better than Drive.
Same for W, though I think it trades off with a strong beginning. So W is like Drive in reverse for me. I loved the way W's set up. I loved the movies which were pretty much prequels. I like how it carried itself during the first half. However by midway, after the younger Sonozaki sister's weird ass heel turn and Weather's defeat, I didn't like the overarching plot as much. None of the final bosses interested me. Terror wasn't terrifying, Claydoll is stupid, and autistic benefactor man was just villainous comic relief. Not to say that the last half didn't have its moments, but the first half I enjoyed better.
Drive was just slow. Nothing really offensive, it sets the setting nicely nicely, but the first half is a slog to get through. Mashin Chaser's story was dragged out and Medic was used as a stall to help achieve that. Then they get better and Chase and Medic are redeemed in the writing. All the villains ended up strong. Even Banno made up for his late appearance by being an enjoyable, hateable bastard whose voice actor and suit actor gave it their A+ performance.
So people really like Fourze, huh? I couldn't get into it at all. The suit was ugly, the gimmick was bulky, and it was in that two episode pair thing that made Wizard so unbearable. (Well, it was one of the things that made Wizard unbearable.)
That said, I absolutely loved Drive. I would kill to have Drive be imported and put on TV. I think it'd really work! You'd just have to make sure to get Chris Peppler to reprise his role.

I LOVED Fourze's base suit. In fact for Fourze, I loved all the base suits. Base States Fourze, Meteor, Nadesico... but then there are the powerups. What an assault on the eyes they were. And they weren't as tied into the motif as I believe a spaceship/space themed Rider could be. They were just throwbacks to Super-1 and that was it.
Ghost strikes me the same way, but I don't hate the other Souls like I do the other States. I just don't think they work as well on Ghost's and Spectre's base suits as Ghost's and Spectre's own Souls do.
I both cases, I think it's a situation where they put working into making a good looking base suit without thinking how well the look would translate into other forms.
That's why I like W, OOO, and Wizard (at least for the regular Styles) because they had the alternate forms in mind. I also love Drive because they give the Riders mostly new suits entirely sans shit like Deadheat and Mach Chaser.

Also, every entry is different, and that's without taking into account the difference between the Showa and Heisei eras, so it's not on its own "more serious" than anything. There're the more lighthearted entries like Fourze, the more violent ones like Amazon or Kuuga, the darker ones like Faiz and Gaim, etc.

The original toku series is pretty fucking dated, being from the early 70's and all. It's also somehow even lower budget than Kamen Rider and Super Sentai from the same era, but it's a pretty fun, goofy show if you're into that sort of thing. The 2000 anime that aired on Adult Swim is typically a much easier pill to swallow for newer fans, being a more emotional, grim show that's closer in tone to Ishinomori's original manga, which was a tragic series.

Generation Kikaida, a Hawaiian based company that licenses old Toku shows that were popular in Hawaii, brought it over. Kikaider was a huge thing there in the 70's apparently, so they license pretty much everything with the character for release in the US.
They've done full boxset releases for Kamen Rider V3, Inazuman, Kikaider, and Kikaider 01. The only thing is that their full series sets can get pretty damn expensive, since they apparently print them up on an order by order basis.

For Western comics the closest you're gonna get is the old Marvel Masked Rider comic, and that new Power Rangers comic coming soon. As far as manga is concerned though you can find Ishinomori's original Kamen Rider series, which is available fully translated through Comixology, along with Android Kikaider and Inazuman. His Kamen Rider Black manga, which is pretty goddamn different from the show has also been translated into English but not through any official channels.
There's also Kamen Rider Spirits, a newer, more violent manga series that covers the adventures of all the old Showa Riders, up to ZX, after their shows are over, leading up to a bigger plot involving them all.
As far as Sentai goes the only one I really know is Ishinomori's original Himitsu Sentai Gorenger manga, which is very different from the show and comes across more as a gag strip. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been translated either.
