The only prominent scientist I don't recall seeing there was Niles Caulder, I think he might be the villain for the new shorts if there'll be a coherent story and not just one-off adventures with new characters exploring the setting.

GaM Magnus took a lot of cues from Morrison's evil Caulder. Caulder should just plain and simple be the Brain in this reality I think. Maybe Magnus' mentor instead of Morrow, too.
Personally I'd like to see this universe's Swamp Thing - maybe it's Floronic Man/Seeder, since the general theme is "more ruthless heroes", not "villains as heroes".
