Miyazaki has always been pretty bad with sameface but it's never really bothered me because the characters within a single work always looked pretty distinct from the rest of the case. There's usually only one short square headed old person and cute pre-teen girl with short red/brown hair in the movie itself, even if those archetypes appear in everything Miyazaki does.
Disney usually gets away with it to me for the same reasons but it did bother me in Frozen that the mother and two sisters were all direct clones of each other besides Elsa being a blonde.

While kind of boring and safe, I don't really see much of a problem with the commonality in facial proportions. It's for easy mass appeal and is usually pretty effective. There should be more various in female lead character designs yeah, but that being said, they still have just enough differences to tell them apart face wise.Beyond that though, they largely rely on their other visual elements to differentiate them.
