Ugh, I wish more cartoons were cartoony often. The west started the great medium that is known as animation today and the only thing modern cartoonists can be inspired by is anime bullshit. I say this as a Sailor Moon fan but I prefer the two styles to remain separate.

It got some chuckles out of me, but the animation is mediocre (golden in this dark age of animation) and the character designs are ugly.

It's lazy in concept and lazy in practice.
If you don't want hair covering the character's eyes you should design them with that in mind.
A hairstyle that covers the eyes is something that one should probably not do if they want an expressive character, it should be reserved to characters where that would lend to the character like Violet from the Incredibles, which she uses to hide from the world, so it makes sense that she covers her face and eyes.

This is a software-animated show. Every element from the hair and the eyes already exist as separate assets, so having the hair cover the eyes would be a trivial change. If anything, it takes slightly more work to have the eyes show through.
This is a design choice that you may not like, but it isn't laziness.
