And even aside from that, we have the fact that Rose is the odd duck among the 3 potential quartz we've seen thus far (amy, Jasper and the hologram soldier).

Diamonds are made of carbon, as is Earth's organic life. That could make the Diamonds the oldest Gems. Of course quartz is not made of carbon, so has to have been produced cheaply later for some function. In light of this, Rose probably never came into contact with the Gem gods.
