Most of the Green Lantern movie.

You know what? I just going to say it.

"Memes" aren't even bad. It won't kill you when something acknowledges another thing for humor or any other purpose. Attempting to snub your nose at something by calling it a meme is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. I get that the word is being misused, but how does someone take themselves seriously when they say "this concept has been thought about by people other than it's originator, it's shit"? Christ, what a disappointment they've become.

>>71625640
Jesus, there's like 100 cuts for each time the ball is bounced. Watching that in the cinema must have been outright dizzying.
>>
>>71625527
Its very simple

The underageb& that converge on this site anonymously call anything they cant handle cringy memespouting garbage because they have warped senses of reality when it comes to the expectations and standards of others.

This "oh my god its so stupid and awkward" phase hopefully fades in their early 20's and they beging to enjoy things again.

The hate and love for memes is just teenage angst and manchildren unfit for society.
>>
>>71625640
I saw that in theaters. I paid the price for a ticket and expected a movie of roughly equal value. I've gotten better since then.
>>
>>71625640
That's avant garde. Clearly it's too deep for you.
>>
>>71625527
The Juggernaut scene in The Last Stand references an old internet video in a bid to appear hip and "in-the-know". That's not admirable or amusing. It's desperate.

While I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying, in this instance it deserves to be snubbed.
>>
>>71623704
I remember people all the way back in 2000, before the first X-Men movie was out, hoping that "BEHOLD! OPTIC BLAST!" would make its way into there.

Not many ways to fit Yipes lines into movie dialogue and make it flow natural, though. Unless you just want to paint a Sentinel in Knicks colors in the background.
>>
>>71626378
I get that. By all means, the filter for quality still applies no matter the context. His delivery felt forced, and it and a couple other scenes made me wonder if the movie wanted to take itself seriously or not. I wouldn't defend the next muppet movie if kermit started started shitting on a bald guy, but if people wanted to hate it because he says "feels good, man" at some point, I would.

What happened?
>>
The biggest embarrassment to the entire medium is their continued existence and production.

Luckily, no one who actually makes comics worth reading really cares about the MCU or the DCLAU. They just continue to make comics, while those who do want to appeal to the general blockbuster-going population falter, pander, and fall apart.
>>
>>71633728
Comic books are REALLY SERIOUS GUYS
>>
>>71633798
The idea that a medium can't, or worst, shouldn't take itself seriously only seems to apply to comics, and only recently. Not novels, not movies, not music, not even video games. If handled well, creators in those mediums can discuss almost any topic they please, but the minute someone introduces the idea that there should be a comic not just about men in tights punching each other, everyone starts complaining about "edginess" and "no fun allowed".

Worst, it's the fault of capes that any comic that tries to be about anything substantial is mocked by both the general, and the majority of the comic reading public. The exponential rise of mishandling serious topics after the release of Watchmen and TDKR was solely the fault of the Big2. Amateur hacks, wanting so hard to be the next Moore or Miller, fell over themselves to have cape characters be murdered, raped, and all sort of "mature" horseshit to stay "relevant" in a culture that rightfully stopped caring. Now, their word and picture vomit is biting anyone trying anything in the ass, as all anyone has to do is reference refrigerators or pouches, and it's laughed at by assumed association.

There's an abundance of comics that aren't about capes that do just fine. In the end you start to regard superheroes as just a squabble going on in the corner while the medium gets on with telling stories.

Here's a newsflash: The debate over "legitimacy" has nothing to do with anything important, either commercially or critically. Trashy genre fiction novels are mocked and ignored by most people, given no recognition, sell in their niche, and the best option they will have is being turned into a B movie.

However, at the end of the year, various organizations and committees and publications nominate and award the best in what they do, from documentary non-fiction, to over-the-top sci-fi, to "serious" drama. Some of these groups, from the Oscars to the NYT, can almost guarantee their nominees the most important thing for flourishing artists, which is not "legitimacy", but "acknowledgement". And with acknowledgement comes a rise in sales, grants, producers, fans, projects for those involved because of their work.

What do comics have for all of their "genres"? The Eisners and the Ignatz. I won't blame you for not knowing the latter off-hand, but even the former is only really known amongst those interested in comics. So, outside of similar aspects on a much smaller scale, writer/artists are not given the funds and the support of others in different mediums.

Movie adaptations are a very large blimp on my radar, since, from a commercial perspective, comics just aren't as viable for independent artists as independent movies and independent novels. Creating comics solely for Movie/TV adaptations are a much more appealing way to feed one's family. Just ask Millar.

For what it's worth, Juggernaut actually kept saying shit like that in the Claremont era ALL THE TIME. Every single time he appeared, he pointed out that he is the Juggernaut and that he is unstoppable, and whenever someone tried fighting him, he pointed it out that they must not know who he is.

>>
>>71634270
There are, but they don't do fine. Not financially. Sure, Blue is the Warmest Color saw a small bump in sales, but that's mostly because of the overblown exploitation of lesbian sex scenes in the movie adaptation that barely make up 5 pages of content in the original work.

While the internet has given a better chance at selling one's work to make a living, on an actual feasibility scale, comic sales are a niche, and capes dominate 90% of that niche. The highest selling comic every month only sells a bit over 100k issues, unless it's a promo for a Big2 #1.

Financially, and culturally for those not involved, capes just aren't a squabble in the corner, they are an undeniable multi billion dollar elephant that takes up most of the room.

It's a fact that a majority of comics published every year are non-cape. This is thanks largely to Japan/France/Belgium, and also the ever-present independent communities who aren't restricted to zine hand outs anymore. However, mostly everyone knows comics only as capes. No other medium has to deal with that, and the implied connotations of that problem.

Comics of the non-cape variety aren't going to die out anytime soon, and in fact, are probably more widespread than they have been in decades. That's not the problem. The problem is cultural perspective, financial futures, and the influence on the creators of now, and tomorrow.

This is oddly similar to Daredevil and Elektra's park scene.

>>
>>71628064

So it turns out I actually really like this scene

Not its execution, but the concept behind it

And also that they both clearly have fightboners at the end of it

Daredevil the movie wasn't great but the Electra movie embarrassed me. I loved Miller's Electra like Otaku's love little 2d anime girls. And teh move had no clue who Electra is and ruined her. Could have been so much better.

The worst thing that I ever have to deal with is talking about these movies with coworkers

>Hey anon! I know you like those comics and stuff so you might be able to help. Why wasn't Spider-man in Avengers?
