The funny thing is that you don't even have to exercise to lose weight, a standard 2000 calorie diet is typically enough to cause a calorie deficit in even sedentary overweight people because there's a heightened calorie cost on your body both moving around with and holding onto fats.

What he just said can't happen for most people. For the very lucky few you can eat an amount that large and do pretty much no exercise but even though you won't lose 35 pounds in two months. I have some tips to lose weight though. Let me make another reply to this.

Basically calories are lost in two ways, through your metabolism and through exercise. Weight gain and loss is determined by energy in energy out, if you consume more calories than you burn you gain weight, if you spend more calories than you consume you lose weight. Metabolic rate is dependent on a lot of things but your BMI or height to weight ratio combined with your age can help give a general estimate. I've been using a calorie counter app for the past two months which tracks your metabolic rate and tells you what amount of calories daily you should be eating based on your weight loss/gain goal, metabolic rate and average amount of exercise. I'm losing as much as 2 pounds a week because I'm fairly tall (6'3") and heavy, and eating a standard diet of 2020 calories which is about 700 calories below my metabolic rate.
Of course, calories in calories out only determines weight, it has nothing to do with muscle mass or general health or nutrition etc. You can eat a deficit but still eat completely garbage food and be a normal weight but still unhealthy as fuck. It's where /fit/'s "skinnyfat" term comes from.

Stop drinking soda. Not completely but if you can limit yourself to like one or two a week that's a big help. It seems like a big hump but it's not too difficult if you have some confidence.
Find exercises you actually like. I guarantee you there are at least one or two you can enjoy. Do try to work a variety of your muscles though so you might have to mix in a few more you find boring. If you can, listen to music that will pump you up.
Contrary to popular belief, cardio isn't the most important thing to lose weight. Although you should do a moderate amount of it, it's not the best exercise group to lose weight to.
If you live in a city or only a little ways away from your downtown area walk there. You can listen to music or just enjoy the scenery. I like to make a mental note in my head of all the things I wouldn't have ever noticed if I never walked.
Don't weigh yourself every day. Not only is it not going to give you a good estimate of your weight loss it will often demotivate you terribly. Do it once a week or so in the morning after you use the bathroom.
And finally, if you mess up on your weight loss goals do not, I repeat, DO NOT give up. I think almost every successful guy messes up every once in a while on his diet but he always picks himself back up. DO NOT use this an excuse to ignore your diet though.

Not really. The problem with fat shaming is it causes three reactions. One, the person feels bad and starts eating more to make themselves feel better, thus making themselves fatter. Two, they get angry that someone is shaming them like that, and will stay fat or get fatter just to spite people who fat shame them. And third, they actually get in shape.

The difference is really in the diet of the average person. They eat tons of low cal shit that your body burns up easily, unlike say, the US or the UK where large portions of high calorie shit that takes your body days to digest has become the norm.
Surprisingly as far as sedentary lifestyles go/time spent sitting on ass per person, Japan is about the same. Which proves if people just ate better and changed nothing else about their daily lives, most of the obesity problem would go away.

Can confirm. I reduced the amount of shit I eat to 1/3rd and I lost like 10 kgs in a month. Granted I went to the gym doing pure cardio for a while, so my metabolism was accelerated, but even after a year I never gained that weight back.

Same. A few years ago I was way overweight and at work someone in our office decided we should do a "biggest loser" thing of our own where we all put in money every week and whoever loses the most weight after three months gets all the money.
I didn't even bother exercising, I just limited myself to 1800 calories a day, drank lots of water and only diet soda, and cut out all junkfood in between meals. I lost 60 pounds in that three months and never went back. I won and got over $2000 and saved a shitload of money on food in the process.
Losing weight is not hard, it just takes a little will power and effort to stop stuffing your face at every turn and to actually watch what you put in your body.
