I like him because he was the first Lantern I was exposed to in the comics. I picked up an issue as a kid and watched Rayner super juice his ring to save an entire planet from destruction, then he fucking DIED because of the effort. It was darker than I was expecting but still a heroic way to go--he didn't beat anyone to death, he wasn't even in a fight, he was just saving a whole fucking bunch of people.
Coincidentally, if anyone knows what comic I'm talking about based on my admittedly TERRIBLE description (this is from memories over a decade old), I would appreciate a nostalgic storytime.
