Last thread:

-We still have not come up with what kind of mask Golden Guardian wears
-Magical Brits
-Appladay's mafia raised brother, Citronexus, has visual representation now (see OP)
-More talk about Appladay and how he's probably really strong since he has The Rogues-tier (Flash) rogues
-More talk about The Numbers and their mysterious leader, ONE
-Alien refugees get too real
-How Motion's powers will evolve later in her career (pic related)
-A story idea about the Aqua Coalition (of Super Friends) when they're fresh out of training and facing off against the Bloom

In other /coc/ related news, Premier Pulp is making a come back, entry deadline for that is September 5th.

I've been thinking about how Alex is a character that actually has a strong reason to alter her civilian appearance. Namely, I think she'd be likely to wear hair extensions, at least while growing her hair out.

It's unusual to have a character whose hair is longer out of costume, rather than wearing a wig in their super hero persona. It might help sell the illusion of her secret identity, assuming most people aren't aware of her extensions.
>>
>>84210206
Makes sense.

Is Motion a natural red head?
>>
>>84210661
The whole blond hair idea never seemed to gain traction, so I doubt anyone will be too upset for it to be done away with entirely.
>>
>>84210822
So how does Motion go about quickly removing and reattaching these hair extensions?
>>
>>84210913
They're probably clip-in, then it's just a matter of comic book logic.
>>
>>84211168
I'm trying to picture whatever Motion's equivalent is to Clark Kent undoing his shirt in a phone booth.

Something I just thought of, do any of them even bother with secret identities?

It seems like most of the Justice Coalition affiliates don't bother with double lives, but a lot of the Justice /co/mrades affiliates do.

Maybe that should be the big divide between the two groups.

>>
>>84214318
Yeah I just mean with Levi it's not really voluntary, she's going to be pretty distinctive no matter what she does

That is an interesting point though, Spearhead and Lance wore masks I think. I wonder what changed that Belle doesn't
>>
>>84214578
There was probably a big scandal during the EXTREME age that leaked a lot of superhero secret identities.

Some laws probably got passed around that time that absolved them of vigilantism if they got a hero license or something.
If we go along that line of thinking, the Justice /co/mrades probably set up the FJCs as a way to help independent heroes who wanted to mostly stay independent and keep doing what they've been doing without letting an organization with government ties "recruit" them.

I think that might be part of the appeal of joining a super group in the /coc/ setting, aside from the team-ups and support you get from it, if your civilian identity ever gets leaked they'll help you out.

>>84211358
Her first costume is more or less plainclothes, but I have some kind of strange ideas for her later costume to excuse it.

Possible spoiler, but not a huge one:
Alex ends up working with Rebecca Voltaire, who created Kaito's costume (designed to help him channel and control his powers) as well as her own costume as Thunderstruck. Alex's "Main" costume is actually created from material produced by Delta, which Rebecca is able to rig to use some limited shapeshifting capabilities, mainly just lengthening or shortening itself and changing colors. It can assume the form of a t-shirt, more or less, making it easy to use.
>>
>>84214578
As an adult, Mace stopped wearing a mask, so it could be that if an event such as >>84214845 took place, it was during his career.
>>
>>84214978
So she meets Delta pretty early on then.

Have you gotten your confidence worked up enough to start work on the comic ideas you have?
Last time we talked you had some hesitations about starting.
>>
>>84214845
That's a good point. IRL extreme 90s heroes didn't wear masks much, they just tend to had glowing god eyes and natural tattoos. If the death of the secret identity was going to happen anywhere it'd be then.

this'd be the next page, the bullets fall down except for one. Motion is using a variation of her power called zero gravity, which means she takes the kinetic energy of falling objects which makes them float till gravity affects them so that they start falling down again, as soon as the objects gain a certain amount of speed, Motion absorbs the kinetic energy again. It seems like the objects are floating but they are just falling down really slowly.

A Certain Inertial Motion
>>
>>84215130
The comic proper is still a ways off, but I am starting to narrow in on more defined and consistent representations of the characters, which was one of my bigger obstacles artistically. I have a fairly tight grasp on what I want from the overall narrative and some actual scripts done though. It's just a matter of getting a satisfactory level of artistry from myself.
>>
>>84215217
Could also be what gave whatever groups the final push they needed to absolve the Youth Coalition when their actual ages leaked.

>>84215276
That is a bit different than her usual "stuff hits me, I absorb the impact" power.

How would she have discovered zero gravity?

>>84215455
You have a point there, since you're drawing it you gotta be happy with it or you risk losing your drive to continue once you get started.

When you do get happy with it, I think you should check out Premier Pulp to see if you can get it in there.
>>
>>84215620
>How would she have discovered zero gravity?

Not that guy, but this is actually one of the powers I was planning for her as well. The reason she figures it out in my version of events is she gets tossed out a window and the kinetic energy she can absorb from having been thrown isn't enough to stop her descent. It takes her some time to be able to adapt it to other objects, starting only from being able to stop herself.
>>
>>84215450

kek
>>
>>84215703
That makes leaping a lot more doable then.

I take it she discovers that application before meeting Delta.
>>
>>84216448
She figures it out fairly early, so essentially "no fall damage" and "super jumps" are part of her default skillset.
>>
>>84214978
I like the sense of androgyny to her appearance here. It feels very open and unashamed.
>>
>>84216707
Falling and lander charges her up for the next jump.

Would she be able to catch people falling at terminal velocity with them taking no damage from the impact of being caught?
>>
>>84217184
>Would she be able to catch people falling at terminal velocity with them taking no damage from the impact of being caught?

Not at first, but ultimately yes. Her powers have a huge skill ceiling.
>>
>>84217411
It's a good example of power versatility.

I'm still trying to think up versatility for Appladay's powers.
>>

>>

Different kinds of apples, .
Small, tough apples that fire fast and strike hard.
Soft, juicy apples that splatter on impact, coating things with flaming apple sauce.
Large, bulky apples that explode into flaming pieces.
Thick-skinned apples that bounce off of surfaces.
Resilient apples that burn longer.
Dry apples that burn hotter and quicker.
>>
>>84218111
Sour apples that burn to release some kind of gas.

Mace was a bit angsty himself, he'd probably be one of the heroes who fit in better in the 90s. Like how Aquaman was cool in the 90s.
>>
>>84222158
Yeah, but by the 90s he was already married, had a kid, and had mellowed out. He went through that phase of his life before it became a trend, so I imagine him looking at the 90s crop and thinking "was I ever this big of a jackass when I was young?"

>>

I don't think it's in Belle's nature to get pissed.

Her friends might, and then someone convinces Tinderella she should kill all of Belle's friends so she'll have her all to herself.

With the aquafolks out of the picture, Belle would fight Tinderella/Bloomguy with just Bloop. Most likely she'd lose and get captured... much to Tinderella's delight

There are actually waterproof journals as real things. Not sure how well they hold up to the rigors of the ocean depths proper, but you could probably get a case that would eliminate most of the problems, and then the waterproofing of the journal itself would mean you wouldn't have to worry about exposure to surface waters or general dampness.

Slick might have some reservations about that since
1. oil his his product
2. oil is his life now
3. he spends over $10,000 per suit

But if he can get over all of that, then yeah, that's a plot.

I think Slick, before he was merged with the toxic oil monster, could be the one responsible for the Bloom so he could buy up the rights to drill for oil in that area of the sea for cheap.

How'd Belle get involved with her pyro spree? She used to spend most of her time out at sea before the Aqua Coalition, so it doesn't seem like the sort of thing that would've caught her interest.

Belle's hometown is part of the "anti-mutie belt," an area that has deeply entrenched anti-metahuman sentiment, similar to the Marvel universe's reaction to mutants. Part of Belle's on-land role is to be a sort of ambassador to troubled young metahumans... Tindy is definitely troubled.

Actually, probably not. It's lit up to emphasize it, rather than because it's producing any energy. His back is a more likely location for it, since it also offers a more direct route to the lightning rods for charging and discharging electricity.

I get the feeling he isn't using delta or beta matter proton packs, so he must have something else he got from the Machine Cult.

What is a good alternative compact power source for a super suit?

Indra is probably using some of the tech that went into Might Mantis' modern power suit, but we don't know what powers that either.
>>
>>84276056
Alex's powers came from the malfunction of a reactor designed by Yamada Industries to absorb kinetic energy and redirect it at a nearly lossless rate. An attempt was made to duplicate this technology by a rival company, the same company that employs Dr. Moon (Rime). It's this exact company that is the reason the Clockwork Prophet convinced Indra to set up in Chicago.

I think it works best for the plot if that company is independent of the Machine Cult, but is of great interest to them. Jhonny Volt is sent to steal some information from them, most likely relating to the reactor, when Motion attempts to stop him. In the midst of their fight, the reactor malfunctions, causing Volt to gain his electrical powers and Rime to be afflicted with her thermal powers.

Now, the reason I'm saying all this is because I expect Volt's mission was actually successful despite Motion's efforts. He retrieved some information relating to the reactor and delivered it to the person who hired him. Indra. I assume his suit is powered in some part by a compact, albeit limited, version of the reactor. It could make for a very dramatic moment for Indra to show that his suit is capable of performing some of the very same tricks as Motion, Rime or Volt.
>>
>>84277004
So then a fight between Indra and Motion becomes a string of punches and tests the limits of their ability to absorb kinetic energy.
>>
>>84277417
A punch out probably won't do much. Alex is the underdog in a fight between Indra and his best suit, so she'll have to put out all the stops.
>>
>>84278153
So Motion's capacity for energy absorption is less than that of Indra's best suit?

Must be one hell of a suit. Was it the first suit Motion had to fight him in?

I'm trying to figure out who pushes who first to get stronger.
>>
>>84278202
>So Motion's capacity for energy absorption is less than that of Indra's best suit?

Not at all. That's her one advantage.

The problem is that it's all Motion can do. Indra's suit is still capable of dozens of other things, and is, of course, extremely resilient armor. She can't go hit for hit with him, because he can do all sorts of things she doesn't automatically outclass him at.

He has versatility on his side.

I feel we've never discussed what Indra can do outside of lightening.
>>
>>84278471
He's got dozens of suits, so it's going to be variable at any given time.
>>
>>84278937
OK, he has to have a failsafe in them so not just anyone can wear his suits.

Imagine a bunch of mooks raid his closet and then there's a dozen or more Indra wannabes wrecking the city.
>>
>>84279412
Of course. Sometimes he passes down one of his suits to a particularly good enforcer, but never the skull helmets. Image is important to him, so anyone pretending to be him would be high on his shit list.
>>
>>84279567
I guess a lot of these things will be made apparent when the comic gets underway.

That, or a lot of these discussion will get added to what I imagine is a huge list of cliff notes and scripts.

Netiquette and Mu are both technopaths.
Ladybug's shield is like a more limited mechanical emulation of Motion's powerset.
Most of the plant themed characters presumably have similar abilities.
"Very strong" characters like Anglorilla, Deadlift, Rock, Coffinhandsman
Tinderella, Nosefire, Backfire, Bombshell, and to some degree Appladay mostly differ in their delivery of similar abilities.
Duet and Blueblood both have a parasite/symbiote that grants them powers and impromptu weaponsmithing.

Who else?
>>
>>84289206
Rage Racer and Blue Shift both have super speed.

There probably aren't a whole lot. /coc/ has tried to limit overlapping archetypes to some extent. It's why we have a notably low number of flight capable heroes.

We even try to go for diversity in the application of archetypal powers. For instance, take these psychics:

>Andrew Wright
Primarily an illusionist, capable of influencing how people perceive things. His cooperation allows Whisper to maintain a visual presence among people.

>Amelia Wright
Amelia is a Psychometric, meaning she can read the history of an object from coming into contact with it. She has some difficulty distinguishing between her own life and the history of objects she's reading at times though.

>Anastacia Wright
A Jack of All Trades. She can perform some of the same feats as her parents to a limited extent, along with levitating objects and opening up psychic channels between willing participants.

>Whisper
A psychic idea, self sustaining and ephemeral. Its capabilities directly scale with the strength its idea holds in the minds of its observers. Potentially the strongest psychic in the setting.

>Zhao Phi
An invasive psychic, her powers are primarily geared towards reading the minds of others. Mind reading is generally pretty weak in the /co/verse as another limiting factor though.

>Captain Stocking Arms
A physical, offense based psychic. Telekinesis, floating and psychic assaults are his domain.

>The Collector
A hypnotist. She can't directly steal information from the minds of others, but she can compel people to perform actions, including spilling secrets.
>>
>>84289981
There's also The Recluse, who's psychic ability to see the very near future is often overshadowed by her advanced prosthesis.

And Captain Rookie, who can perceive ghosts, apparitions, specters, and other such non-tangible entities even when they are concealing themselves.
>>
>>84289981
Adding to this list, Recluse has minor prognostication and Cheshire can cause hallucinations via psychic power.

Cheshire and some of the other Youth Coalition members are ones I've been dragging my heels with adding to the wiki since there's enough on them, just not quite enough, and also because I don't know what I'll do about making a page for Cheshire since there's already a Cheshire Cat page for an older creation born out of the Trinity thing.
>>
>>84290429
If there's not enough yet there will be eventually, most likely. No need to rush it.
