What are you referring to exactly? The O5? Well, Angel should just stay Archangel at this point and wish-wash between villain and hero like he always does, because he always will. There's no going around that. Cyclops will inevitably go back to the status quo leader, give it five or so years. Jean is in a place she can't come back from (which is why the new O5 is around. will they go back? who knows). Beast is beyond repair, honestly.
Iceman should at least be bisexual if they're going the diversity route.

An issue back in the 80s was a full story. Compare that to comics now where there is barely any dialog and the plot progression is slow as fuck. Uncanny X-men was biweekly for a period in the late 80s.

Reveal the time lost OG X-Men are from the timeline introduced during Counter X where Jean Grey is evil.
Teen Iceman and cuck Angel are killed off, teen Jean is sent to prison (where she will rot until she escapes and beats up Maddie Pryor and tries to corrupt Nate Gray in Steven Grant's X-Man run) and teen Scott/Beast go back to their timeline to rebuild the X-Men.
In the present, have Maddie and Scott reconcile (fuck Emma, she can go full-on Hitler evil mutant), make Iceman straight again due to teen Jean's brainwashing as the reason he was gay in the first place, Scott FINALLY apologizes for being a shithead and renounces all mutant supremacist ways/becomes a pacifist and Beast accepts Scott's apologies and decision to become a pacifist as Scotts way to make up for his shit.
And for their first adventure, Beast and the X-Men (with Maddie filling in for Jean) expell all Inhumans from Earth after they reveal that Black Bolt purposely exposed Earth to the Terrigen Mist to genocide humanity. And then go on to rebuild X-Factor, with Havok and Polaris joining in and Lorna/Alex getting married in the process while Alex's demon child with Wasp ends up becoming Malice (hence her hard on hatred for Lorna)

What Cyclops did that got him killed is trying to expulse the terrigen cloud into space with the help op some extremely powerful telekinetic mutants like Exodus, Rachel or Quentin Quire.
The Inhuman fought to prevent that, won, and framed Cyclops as having done something awful.
