Salutations /co/! Four years ago, various anons from here joined forces to put together an indie comic anthology called Premier Pulp. The magazine released eight issues and ran until 2014, when it went on a long hiatus. However, the time is right for the project to return!
In order to help rebuild our readership and find newer contributors, I will be storytiming several issues for everyone to read. More information about the project will be available in the following posts.
I'll be starting off with the 2012 collection issue, which contained the reader's favorites from the year. Enjoy!
4chan's spam filter has become more strict over the years so I threw the information on contacting and following us into this pastebin: http://pastebin.com/etA9anzC
It contains a link to the Discord & IRC servers as well as several other sites.
And now for a FAQ
Q: So what the hell is this?
A: An indie comic anthology that got started on /co/ back in 2012. The goal is to get beginners making comics and to help people team up to work on making comics.
Q: You're a goddamn shill and I don't believe you
A: Here's the oldest thread archive still around: https://desustorage.org/co/thread/39690626/
Q: Well ok then. How does this magazine work?
A: We run on a deadline system over a period of several months. There's an entry deadline, two progress deadlines, and a final deadline. Currently we're looking at early September for the next entry deadline.
Q: Do contributors get paid for this?
A: Nope. I understand if not everyone is willing to do something like this without being paid, but every contributor I've talked to has said it's helped them greatly to becoming better at making comics.
Q: What kind of comics do you accept?
A: While our site is outdated, information can be found here: http://premiercomics.com/submission-details Pay attention to the technical requirements in particular, we want the comics to run to be uniform in format.
Q: Do you have to both draw and write to get something in the magazine?
A: Nope, you can be just a writer and have someone else draw it for you. Many past contributions were team efforts. Many artists feel their writing isn't great, so teaming up with someone confident in their abilities can help them a lot.
So the first comic from this issue comes from Troy Green. If you enjoy what you're reading, I recommend following him at http://teeroygreen.tumblr.com/
Also I understand many people just want to read the .cbr, so you can grab this issue here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/9al63j7aeys57v6/Premier+Pulp+Comics+2012.cbr
>>83360318
So what brought about this attempt at a revival?
>>83360733
The main force behind the revival is the fact that I have free time once again to do whatever I want. Since this project has been the most fun and rewarding thing I've worked on, I'm happy to return and get things going again.
So awesome to see this making a comeback. My brother and I might submit something.
>>83361422
Glad to hear it! A lot of the past contributors have said they'd return and I already have a few completed submissions sent in, so the revival is 100% going forward.
Here's another comic drawn by Troy Green and written by MailOrderClone (Who doesn't have a website).
This is a favorite of mine since it's a perfect example of a short comic and a team effort. I'd love to see more one page comics get sent to us.
>>83361559
darn cute
might participate in this, bump for other readers
Next up is Nancy 'n' Winston by Dustin Jackson. Seems he dislikes his old work nowadays but I still think it's pretty good!
You can follow him online at http://dustinscrazywackydoodles.tumblr.com/
>Just noticed I listed it as 'Nancy & Winston' in the table of contents
Errors like this keep me up at night
I'm gonna ask my friend if he wants to do something.
Is there any specific theme? I don't want to submit something too weird desu
>>83362005
There's no specific theme. We've run tons of different genres and the stories have had a variety of tones. Personally, I love seeing how varied each issue comes out as.
However we don't run porn/fetish comics (as that'd prevent us from having our comics uploaded on many sites) and comics with obvious political agendas (because I don't want them).
Keep in mind short stories are the main focus of the magazine. They can either be one-shots or a more episodic ongoing series (like this comic is).
>>83362334
Oh, great!
I'll try to write something fun and esoteric.
>>83362409
Sounds good! If your friend isn't up to drawing it you can always send in the script and we'll see if we can find anyone who likes it enough to draw it.
Also, again I will stress the importance of reading the submission details: http://premiercomics.com/submission-details
If your comic doesn't meet the technical requirements we can't run it.
>Tfw we'd never be able to do this again
>>83362743

>That lava lady
Sign me up
>>83363063
She's pretty hot
>>83362773
You gotta believe
Might be cool. I'll see if I can write up a fun eight-pager.
I'd like to try this out. I can draw but I've never made a proper comic before.
>>83363500
Go for it! If you can't draw you can always see if someone likes your script enough to draw it.
>>83364134
Lots of comics in the magazine were the first comics people ever completed. There are a lot of people you can ask for help on the Discord server if you get stuck too.
Now we have 10kb by rocko. Haven't heard from this guy since 2012, which is a real shame. Last site he gave me was: http://cyclescomic.blogspot.com/
Hasn't been updated in four years but maybe he starts seeing a spike in visits he'll notice what's going on.
thanks for the storytime
>>83365804
You're welcome!
Next up is a comic by Jamil Gonzalez. You can find his tumblr here: http://jamilsart.tumblr.com/
He's currently working on a webcomic series called The Tale of Jasper Gold. You can find that here: http://taleofjaspergold.tumblr.com/post/131603758664
bear bump
>>83366274
Whoah! THIS is the guy who does Jasper? He's come a long way
Next up is Power Surger by Al Sirois. He has a Comixology page here: https://www.comixology.com/Al-Sirois/comics-creator/83111
>>83366744
It's from the May 2012 issue so that comic is about four years old. That's how much you can improve if you keep working on your craft.
Next up is ZURK by Punt SpeedChunk. This is the second installment in the series. Since I believe that was his first comic this would be his second comic. He doesn't have any sites I know of.
This comic isn't from the 2012 collection but I think it makes a good breather between ZURK and the next comic.
You can find more of this artist's work here: http://penandinkguy.tumblr.com/
I would like to see more stories without dialog, we had a few stories like that and they were always interesting.
What ever happened to Mouth, the Cthulhu thing stuck in a man's form?
I always wondered where that was going.
>>83367717
From what I understand, the project's on hold. Possibly forever. I'd love to see it come back as a webcomic or as part of the magazine, but I think the artist ended up finding work somewhere.
Next up is a /co/ classic. If you don't know who the Lovely Ladybug is, shame on ye. Shame shame shame. Sites will be at the end of the comic.
see, /co/ is dead. here is some actual real content and this is the response
>tfw no ladybug gf
Why live
>>83367938
Well to be fair this is old content. That and storytime threads tend to gather the most posts at the end from what I've seen.
>>83367935
The Ladybug team remains strong.
They're 5 issues in (counting issue 0), plus 3 specials for holidays.
They set up their own comic tumblr that they're updating MWF with pages from their already released issues and plan for the next issue to be finished by the time they get through all of their previously completed work.
http://lovelyladybugcomic.tumblr.com/
>>83367938
This is from years ago, anons have expressed interest in joining in, it's almost 2am.
Bumping for others. And so I can read it when I get home
So this issue featured (aside from the writer, Ladybug):
Dibale - No site I know of
Mindwipe - http://planetofjunk.tumblr.com/
Malicious Alice - http://maliciousalice.tumblr.com/
Neural Neutrality - http://neuralneutrality.deviantart.com/
And up above is the site for this series
Next up is a collaborative effort by PoshAlligator and KaileighBlue. I still really like that 'Golden Gate' title with the bridge on it.
PoshAlligator - http://oscartk.co.uk/
KaileighBlue - kaileighblue.tumblr.com
so that was Pulp, what did yall popes and prophets think
>>83369735
A neat and eclectic blend. Hard to believe this collection was from 4 years ago. Seems like it was yesterday.
>>83369836
There's still more in this issue and others, but I'm heading to bed. Keep the thread alive and I'll post some more when I wake up.
bumping for future readers
bump bamp bibamp
Bumping for past readers.
sweet pulp is comeback!
I have two stories which I wanted to submit years ago yet I cannot drawn and suddenly pulp is gone.
I still cannot drawing, but maybe I will make some draft or script for my story someday. Hope Pulp will always survive. I like you

Page 9 bump
PPC is what got me writing on a full-time basis again, i'd love to contribute a story or two to a possible revival
I'll give it a bump.
Will resume the story time soon
And now for Penelope, by CarnevaleGuy and Jamil G.
>>83382173
I remember this one being brought up back when the Super Moms project was still active.
>>83382394
Can't remember that project
You can follow the writer CarnevaleGuy here: http://carnevalecomic.tumblr.com/
And of course you can follow the artist here: >>83366274
Next up is Mouth by Schwarbage and Pal-el
You can follow the writer here: http://schwarbageandfriends.tumblr.com/
I can't find the current tumblr being used by the artist, however.
I'm not reading all that shit. Point me to the magical girls in this project.
>>83383048
It's from a couple years ago. They got a shit load of pinups, some fully written scripts, and some comics pages, but the whole thing collapsed because they just couldn't get anyone to draw anything based off of the scripts.
>>83383303
There have been cape girls, pirate girls, monster girls, mom girls, helmet girls, secretary girls, tokusatsu girls, t h i c c girls, but sadly no magical girls.
If you want a recommendation on a good magic girl manga, read Mahou Shoujo Site.
Can OP no longer bump their own threads when story timing or do you just have sage on?
Now for an installment of Oceans in the Sky by Steve Alphonse.
You can follow him here: http://oitscomic.tumblr.com/
>>83383300
He deleted everything and left this cryptic ass message.
http://carryalaser.tumblr.com
>>83384864
Not sure, sometimes threads get auto sage'd because of links. I couldn't post some links earlier because 4chan detected them as spam. I'll have to experiment to see which links are acceptable and which aren't.
>>83384864
No. OP can't bump own threads.
>>83385004
>>83385012
Well this thread being on page 9 when the last post was only seven minutes ago at the time is a mystery then.
>>83385012
>>83385121
In the future I'll have to remember to have someone else story time it then.
bumping for parallel readers. Also why are mods letting this autosage.
>>83384864
>>83385012
>>83385180
They can, but there's a 5 minute delay. /aco/ is the same way. It's /b/ and /v/ that have no OP bumps.
Magi's tumblr - http://ac120.tumblr.com/
goddamn see this is why /co/ is dying, the mods let a thread about actual comics autosage
>>83385939
It's not up to mods to bump a thread. Have some perspective.
>>83386124
whenever I bump the thread, it doesnt go back to the front page. They are letting it autosage
>>83360318
Man, I remember writing for the Proto-Pulp, whatever that was even called. Like... 5-6 years ago?
Glad to see you're trying to make a comeback! I hope it goes well!
>>83386159
So what do you mean by five minute delay? OPs have to wait five minutes before their posts will bump their threads? Or bumps only happen five minutes after a post?
>>83386159
Either you are OP, you are saging, or you aren't being observant.
>>83386244
The former. I had to take breaks to storytime all of Sexy Losers one time because of that.
>>83386248
watch the front page, it never bumps back to the front
>>83386322
Other threads are just being bumped more aggressively. Use a thread monitor like the rest of the interbutt. And the catalog.
>>83386291
Gotcha
>>83386322
/co/ is very active right now and this isn't a particularly active thread. There's 21 posters in here and other threads on the front page can have 50+ posters.
>>83385883
Oh boy, I gotta do a follow up to this someday.
>>83386580
I'll be looking forward to it!
>>83383048
Never met the artist for this comic but you can follow the writer here:
>>83389298
Whoa man, what's the command for invisible text? Do I have to hold a candle up to the screen to see it?
>>83389510
Here's the non-secret ink version: >>83383048
I'll be back with more comics later in the day.
>>83386570
>>83386394
you both make very reasonable and persuasive points, but I am going to continue to be unreasonably mad
>>83383303
Well, one can be arranged. do you have a strict definition of what's considered "magical girls"?
>>83392038
Not a formal one. You got a pitch? What does your girl do?
>>83392266
Hits things very hard with a hammer, mostly.
>>83392899
A magic hammer? For love and justice? With an animal mentor and a transformation sequence? Massive power scale jumps between arcs? Does she combine powers with an other girl she's gay or not-gay for to perform an ultimate attack?
>>83361691
Saving this for /k/
>>83393217
Can summon any number of magic hammers for any situations. For fun and profit, and to watch over and mentor up-n-coming hero and heroins. She graduated to animal underlings. She has no power down state, but have evil state. Other magical girls in the story might have transformations, however. Her power scales is base on plot. She doesn't usually combine power, prefer physical attacks, most others are energy based attacks, but might coordinate if situation calls for it.
>>83395145
Yeah, that counts.
>Can summon any number of magic hammers for any situations.
Susan from EGS. Satoka from Gatekeepers 21.
>>83395318
Do terrible fetish webcomics really count?
>>83395868
Shive has improved. He just maintains a consistent style in his main comic.
>>83396019
So you're claiming it's now merely a mediocre fetish webcomic rather than a terrible fetish webcomic. There's a compelling endorsement.
>>83395868
It is a really specific power.
>>83396784
I'll bet it has more printings than your comic.
Bumpin' and shit.
I'll post a few more comics today
Here's the first Nancy and Winston comic from Dustin. His info is here: >>83361973

You should have just known that.
>>83398866
I had thought we'd posted it before along with the other links but looking at the archives we never did.
Oh hey I remember this. I figured it would forever remain another dead /co/ project.
>>83400147
More than /co/ is love, /co/ is stubborn. A lot can be accomplished with enough stubbornness, just not very quickly.
>>83395318
>>83396803
Well, I never said I was original, although I want to give some variation at least. Most common will be the squeaker, but there will be more serious magic hammer for more serious circumstances.
>>83400147
We're back, and hopefully forever this time.
It's way easier to restart this compared to when we were building it the first time around. There's still a lot we need to work on (the website, some technical issues, and staff concerns) but everything should be handled by the end of this summer.
The most fun I had in the early days was seeing the surge of random people stop by the IRC. It was a lot of fun meeting random people from across the world and having them share their comic ideas with me. I'm hoping to meet a lot of new people again this summer.
We're seeing if Discord is a good replacement for the IRC at the moment. It has a lot of handy features and a web client, but IRC also had it's advantages for being extremely easy to use.
>>83402019
Guess I'll need to update the /co/ wiki entry on Pulp at some point then.
http://the-conservatory.wikia.com/wiki/Premier_Comics
>>83402282
I updated it. Removed the parts about Panel Beat and Substance.
Panel Beat was a new name for the magazine meant to clamp down on the confusion over the magazine's name. It ironically ended up causing people to get even more confused, so we settled on 'Premier Comics'.
Substance was a spin-off autobiographical themed anthology. It was meant to be the first project of 2014 until Panel Beat was ready, but things fell apart late 2013 and it didn't go anywhere.
In the future we might do a 'Premier Memoir/Memory Comics' or something. We only ever got one submission for it. The only themed issues that went well for us were the Christmas issues.
>>83402019
>staff concerns
Such as?
>>83403017
OK then. Always nice to have someone involved with the projects updating the wiki entries.
>>83401899
The b& hammer. In the jungle you must wait, until the dice read 5 or 8.
>>83403126
A major member of the original staff hasn't been able to say if he'll return yet. If he can't return we'll have to find someone else to replace him.
We're also looking for someone to fill the new position of Art Editor. I really would like to get someone on the team who can offer feedback to the artists over the course of the development cycles. It's a tricky position to fill because I need someone who knows their stuff and is not only good at helping others, but has the time to do it.
I'll use this thread to post some more comics tomorrow. See ya tomorrow, /co/.
>>83404491
Alright.
I'm liking that this is making a come back.
Night bump
Morning bump for those who missed it.
I think I'll contribute something to this; I've always wanted to make a comic. Does anyone know when the entry deadline is? The final deadline is in September, right?
>>83408490
The entry deadline is in September. Final deadline is later.
>>83412425
Can you have more than one entry?
>>83413754
>Can you have more than one entry?
Yes. In the past we've had people work on multiple projects for a single issue. I recommend either getting a lot done in advance if you want to start both projects during the development cycle or having one completed in advance.
>>83408490
>Does anyone know when the entry deadline is? The final deadline is in September, right?
The entry deadline is September 5th. I will make a post on the tumblr today regarding the deadlines and how they work. (http://premiercomics.tumblr.com/)
