I know this is a long shot, but could we have a Genshiken thread? I'm really excited by recent developments and would love to maybe have some discussion too. I'll of course dump what I have.
Gonna take a break since Captcha-chan's getting on my nerves.
I really hope they end up together. There's too much in the manga that indicates Mada is in love with Hato for it to be some kind of red herring. The handholding sealed the deal for me.

It's from a Japanese newscast during winter a couple years ago. It was snowing, and an interviewer asked a nearby couple sharing an umbrella what they thought of the snow. The girl was cheerful and said something like, "Being in the snow with my lover like this gives me a special feeling!", and her boyfriend kept his eyes downcast and face hidden in embarrassment. People thought this was very cute, and it quickly went viral, and turned into an art meme.

I know nothing is set in stone, but from all the explicit references to references to stuff that happened to Hato in Genishiken' recent chsptets, it probably is hato or at least a Hato in spotted flower.
Which means Mada will ruin things with his spinelessness, even if he does like Hato.

Nah, if anything I feel like Spotted Flower is a "what if" scenario rather than a sequel. There's really no doubt in my mind that they'll end up together the way the manga's going.

it's virtually impossible at this point for kio to back out of a mada/hato ending. it would follow the theme of genshiken perfectly for them to get together. both of the previous protagonists found happiness by throwing out their personal anxieties and taking social risks in order to be the people they really wanted to be. hato is afraid that madarame only likes the idea of dating him, but it's a risk he's going to need to take in order to complete his character arc.
there is no cop-out ending.

But when has Genshiken every had a non happy ending? When has a main/major couple broken up for the sake of "realism"?
I've always felt Genshiken is ultimately a very hopeful manga, that things turn out much better than you think they do. Since the beginning its always been about going out of your comfort zone and getting to be the real you, without the self-loathing and worry of rejection.
Even Yajima, who has to deal with Hato rejecting her crush on him, is in a much better place right now than she was at the start of the manga.

Well it depends if there's more to the story Kio hasn't told us yet. He could decide to end the manga with Hatomada or he could focus on other characters for a bit. It won't be an abrupt change.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm just ready for this to end now. I don't care who wins at this point. I've been gunning for Mada x Hato since day one but the way the author has drawn things out is ridiculous.
The thing that got me the most angry was how confident and understanding Madarame was about the prospect of dating Hato last chapter and now he did a complete reversal and doesn't know what he fucking wants again. It's so frustrating.
