Since South park is losing steam in terms of quality of the scenarios, what if the creators decided to go the route of doing a 100% yaoi fanservice show.
That would possibly bring them even more fans and money.

But it's not, this entire season has been excellent and they are doing something new which makes it feel fresh. If I wanted to watch cheap gay fanservice show with lame characters and writing I'd just watch sports anime or K.

They were my first ''OTP'' or whatever but god Kyle just doesn't love Stan nearly as much as Stan loves Kyle. Also he can be a total cunt sometimes, like in Super Best Friends.
I still love them though. They're one of the few ships I care about, and certainly the only South Park ship.

Fandom's portrayal of him comes from the early season where Kyle was fucking helpless without Stan rescuing him all the time. See: Cherokee Hair Tampons, Cartmanland, Super Best Friends
It makes a lot of sense to me, and I think a lot of people's image of the characters comes from the old episodes since, let's face it, the older episodes were better..
That still doesn't explain why the fanbase always portrays Kyle as the one pining after oblivious Stan when it should probably be the other way around, whether you're basing it on the older or newer episodes.
Stan breaks down without Kyle and Cartman gets miserable when Kyle is away in Smug Alert. No one just can live without Kyle, and when you think about it's Kyle who has kept the town in shape so far. Now when he can't do anything this season everything gets weird.

I think Trey uses Stan to represent his good side and Cartman to represent his bad side, which would make them two sides to the same coin. So it's not surprising that the both of them are obsessed with Kyle.
