Most cooking, especially home cooking, is super simple. It's just that even very intelligent people often turn into complete idiots in the kitchen and overthink things.

There are basic techniques, and then it's a matter of experience, and learning to use your senses. Learning how to properly season and combine flavors takes a bit of talent. (Yes, most people are terrible at seasoning, even when it comes to something as simple as adding salt.)

Even the hardest exquisite over-the-top kind of shit requires very little practice when compared to other hobbies/activities and some easy memorization.

Being a famous chef is a matter of luck, connections and image mostly. Really not that different from other bullshit like fashion designers etc.

You can learn almost everything you'll ever need for homecooking in a few months.maybe baking and certain high level things are difficult but you can passively learn to be a good cook with almost no effort. This. Cooking takes vastly less skill than other trades, and even less when compared to actual arts.

There's a reason it's a job ex-cons and high school dropouts flock to, and why cooks/chefs get paid absolute shit. It's the bottom of the barrel, career wise.

But even that isn't all that "Difficult". Complicated? Sure. It also might require specialized equipment. But because of the scientific background & procedures there's no guesswork to it. It's precise and methodical.

In my opinion, there are 3 challening things in cooking:
1) finding ingredients of exceptional quality
2) time management & ability to handle stress in a hot cramped kitchen during a busy rush
3) certain tasks requiring a lot of dexterity. For example: some kinds of sushi. boning out a whole cooked fish and then reassembling it for presentation without the diner being able to tell the bones were removed.
