Why your local store is garbage. Stupid products. Bad items. Lack of choice. Expired foods. Etc.

>go to aldi, looking for unsweetened shredded coconut
>they only have sweetened
>go to the biggest grocery store within 8 miles of me (shoprite)
>the store-brand only comes in sweetened
>the unsweetened is double the price and only available as dried coconut, like you would add to trail mix

Are you fucking kidding me? Why do we need to add sugar to goddamned fucking everything? It's a fucking fruit, it's already sweet. Can't asshats who want diabeetus just add their own damned sugar at home, so the rest of us can have a choice about it? I can't make my recipe now. I refuse to buy shit with added sugar.

>two entire aisles of soda
>no un-sugared coconut

Bonus: was looking for a single snack size bag of chips. They ONLY sold family size bags or those giant sacks of 40 single size baggies.

Shoprite, lel, south Africa, lel
>>
>>7628152
>south Africa,

I'm east coast US. My options are aldi, shoprite, or save a lot (ghetto store with shitty options). About 8 miles away is...another shoprite. And there's a few corner deli/convenience stores.
>>
>>7628141
>go to aldi, looking for
DISCOUNT RETAILER. They only have the cheapest shit and only what'll sell.

If you want specialist shit, go to a specialist retailer. Or just buy a fucking coconut yourself.

Shoprite is shite in South Africa aswell. Generally stay away from them

>two entire aisles of soda

I fucking hate this. The Hy-Vee I used to go to had THREE FUCKING AISLES of chips, pretzels, etc. Even when I actually wanted a bag of chips, it was a pain in the ass finding what I wanted in those three giant aisles.
>>
The sugar is used as a preservative numbnuts, in some countries it is actually legally required to put sugar in certain products

My local super market a best. Not one single complaint.

>>7628414
>two aisles of soda
>three aisles of chips

What the fuck, dude? I've never seen that and I've lived in 4 states.
>>
>>7628414
>my store is providing me with so many choices man this sucks
>why don't they stock things for me only
>>
Local grocery store. A whole aisle dedicated to rice products. No couscous
>>
Canada, here.

I have a Sobeys a 5 minute walk from my place. Not a huge fan. Tiny meat counter, their pre packed meats are of questionable quality. Bakery section is small and their store-made bread is bad and often stale. They have a decent selection of ethnic foods, but Latin foods in particular are lacking. Their hot food counter is also pretty poor. Poor quality, not amazing selection, and they sell out of things frequently.

Their produce is also very poor and what they carry changes from day to day. I go to buy stuff to make chilli, one day they have all kinds of chilis, the next they have maybe jalapeƱos and sweet bells and that's it.

I really wish it was better, but I don't drive and it's so close by. Just can beat it for convenience.
>>
I have an obscure discounter called "Markant" in a six minute walking distance.
>10 eggs for 2,79 (not even organic)
>everything is roughly 10% more expensive than other chains, for example mozzarella for 0.59 instead of 0.55 or ham for 1.19 instead of 1.09
>shit-tier selection
>I've had fresher vegetables from dumpsters than from that store
>closes at 8 PM
At least it has my favorite soda for dirt cheap. For everything else, I have to hop on the tram for a few minutes.

Did you read the post? No, you didn't.

>>7628435

An entire aisle for rice? How the fuck many kinds of rice are there? I don't know why you'd willingly eat couscous, though, shit is nasty.

>>7628423

2 aisles of soda, 1 for chips, 1 for cookies and crackers, 3 for canned shit, 1 entire aisle for just preshredded cheese. Half an aisle with sugar. Entire aisle of gluten free crap. Half an aisle bottled water and flavored water. Actual food a human might eat? Maybe one or two choices if you're lucky, shoved in a back corner somewhere. Kills me to find anything edible in there. About 200 different kinds of chips, not even joking. 2 kinds of anchovies, just two. Canned seafood overall maybe 12 kinds. Can't find tahini at all, can't find miso, can't find juice or jam that doesn't have added sugar, can't find rhubarb even in the summer. Any sort of produce that isn't apples, oranges, and bananas has been sitting there for a week unbought. Can't find fresh herbs other than parsley.

Oh, and all their produce is underripe, and it skips ripe and goes straight to rotten. I have to drive the next town over to a farmer outlet to get edible fresh produce. But boy oh boy, if you want canned flavorless fruit in heavy syrup they got you covered with over half an aisle of it. Unsweetened? What are you, a communist?

Where and what is this place, I'm super curious.

I just can't picture a super market in a "food dessert" or extremely rural southern community that can have both 5 aisles of chips+soda AND gluten free aisle.
>>
>>7628531
>a "food dessert" or extremely rural southern community

I live in neither of these. Normal area in east coast US. Middle income, suburban. All the supermarkets have a ton of shitty normie food like chips and soda and few to no exotic or healthy, fresh food, and it has fucked over a few of my intended recipes. Not even super exotic food I'm looking for. Rhubarb for chrissake.
>>
>>7628522
>It is not a grain, why should it be in with the rice?
Because the way it is cooked and combined with other foodstuffs is more similar to rice than to most pasta. You don't group pasta sauces with noodles because they're the same type of food.
>>
>>7628141
Pretty much any organic store. They have great stuff but usually they are missing like the 1 thing you need. Example: Extra virgin olive oil. This shit is not for cooking, and there is no pure olive oil in stock. Not to mention half the olive oils aren't really olive oils.
>>
Everytime I go to Publix I'll bring reusable bags with me, usually one more than I need.
But they will always, always shove every single thing I have into just one and hand me the empty bag.

Even when I've told them I don't mind if they need to use some plastic bags.
Even when I've told them it doesn't have to all be in the same bag.

Sometimes it's just because the bagger comes in at the last second and does whatever the fuck he wants.

Then they ask if I need any help to my car (I realize they have to ask this)
I tell them no and then go outside and move everything over.

If it's plastic they'll always ask if eggs or meat or bread or whatever needs to be seperate. But they don't even bother asking if I have my own bags.

They don't even like give you a bag discount or anything, I just think they take offense to it like it represents everything Publix is refusing to keep up with, sticking with their Southern Hospitality facade.

Still have to go there because they have BOGOs on shit I actually buy, tons of organic/ethnic shit, IPAs, a liquor store, no wait in line, and store brand is alot of the times better than the original.

Reminds me of how I feel about ChicFilA, theyre just too comfortable in their superiority
>>
>>7628807
Why can't you just put your stuff in your bag by yourself?
>>
>>7628823
Not how Publix works, but I would prefer it
>>
>>7628141
Buy a coconut and shred it your damn self, it's not hard and tastes awesome

But yes, children who need everything sugar coated are disgusting
>>
>>7628828
Yeah but why don't you just do it? Will they physically assault you if you try?
>>
>being mad at the stores for selling the things the customers want and giving them lots of space and exposure

>wanting stores to take in your extremely specific products that you'll buy once every second month and won't even sell a box before they expire
>wasting valuable shelf space on shelf warmers because the coconut autist won't shut up

You should shout at fatties and families with many children instead.

>shopping at Aldi

Fucking flyover
>>
>>7628493
Be less of a peasant and purchase an automobile. This is a stupid problem to have.
>>
>>7628807
Don't be fucking austistic, put your bags in front of your groceries and they will take the obvious cue that you don't need store bags for your shit. This isn't a real problem.
>>
>>7628875
This

>move to new city, all food ridiculously expensive
>nearest aldi closed for renovations til july

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

>>
Yeah, I too crave unsweetened coconut in a can from time to time.
