Does /ck/ have a favorite infomercial? My favorite has to be the Dr. Oz approved "The Fat Magnet." This device was designed to suck non nutritional ingredients such as fat out of normally unhealthy food thus making it seem healthier for consumption

This shit is notorious bad for not working...not even in theory does this shit sound like it works
>>
>>7602850
We've also got really poor nutritional education, which is why so many people think that low-fat/nonfat foods can be eaten by the truckload.
>>
>>7602850
Poor impulse control is not country-exclusive.

>>
>>7602847
This sounds like the perfect gadget for people who hate flavor.
>>
>>7602847
How did this even make it to market with those claims?

I suppose they worded the functionality vague enough so that false advertising wouldn't be accused.
>>
>>7602850

The problem with fats has always been how dense in calories they are. But the whole all fats are bad meme is definitely something that needs to stop.
>>
>>7602879
>fat Maori

Fixed that for you cuzzybro
>>
>>7602882
It's a skimmer for retards who can't skim. You freeze it, skim a broth or stew and the fatty layer on top solidifies on contact with the frozen plate in the bottom of the device.
Trust american housewives to be too mentaly handicapped to skim a broth without a special tool.

It's not on any informercial because it's too retarded, but they sell these at the supermarkets around here.
The instructions on the back say to use half the amount of water and half the seasoning packet. That is how this thing makes ramen quicker and healthier.
>>
>>7602847
You can get the same result by freezing a metal spoon. All it does is get surface fat to solidify against the cold metal. So if you need to skim the fat from a soup or stock or sauce it -could- work. Or you could use a god damn spoon.
>>
>>7603479
That's not how it's used in the infomercial.
>>
>>7604511
It's exactly how it's used in the infomercial.

what happened to this guy? When he appeared on Oprah he seemed okay but now he just endorses the craziest shit, does he no longer care about his reputation in the medical world?
>>
>>7604867
Ehm ... >>7604747
No.
>>
>>7604867
Definitely doesn't care.
Pretty much everyone in the medical community hates him for spreading misinformation. And he's been doing that on his show since 2009.

Don't know how he was on Opera.

companies do not submit their commercial claims to the government for approval before release. consumers must appeal to the government when a company makes fraudulent claims.

Maybe if you're tied to a wheelchair or some shit, some people actually move their bodies sometimes
>>
>>7604937
2000 kcal/day was supposed to be the average intake for a 5'8" male. A 5'4" office girl won't need anywhere near 2000

She really is pretty hot for a fatty, though.
>>
>>7604933
You just submit a report backing up your claims, which you should already have anyway because if you're making the claims truthfully you must have put the research into it beforehand.
>>
>>7605338
Which is why the challenge was for her to work out every day as well...to burn off those extra calories and get the body into a cycle to burn off the stored fat too.

This all started in the 80's

There were two American scientists with very different findings as far as the nascent obesity epidemic.

One scientist came up with the conclusion that American food chemists had created processed shit that tasted like cardboard. Pumping salt and more importantly sugar into these products was the only way to make them palatable. Sugar itself is fine but the ratio of processed products since the end of WWII had gone through the roof. Eating 3 tablespoons of sugar a day is decidedly NOT fine.

If addressed this would have been huge, cost a lot of money to fix and would have made a lot of individuals in the food industry with influence very, very cross. Especially the sugar lobby.

The other scientist said "Yeah, it's the fat."

That was a much easier and cheaper problem to fix. So everybody was like "Well, seems legit!" and you had overnight all these Low Fat(tm) products. Loaded of course with sugar. And since tinkering with recipes to make them low fat made them taste even -worse- than cardboard the solution was

>MOAR SUGAR!

And that is how Americans accept Junk Science when the truth just hurts/costs too damned much.
>>
>>7605444
when will they learn
>>
>>7605486

So I have to decide whether to laugh or have bowl of Honey Nut Feelios that in circa 2016 what amounts to 'fat warding talismans' are being sold to people who gobble gram after gram of sugar every meal. Breads, (Yo dawg we heard you like sugar so we put sugar in your sugar!) soups... Even those beloved fucking 'tendies' of yours.

Dr. Oz is no different from let's say Dr. Feeny who wanted to sell you ~Dr. Feeny's Wonder Tonic~ in 1906. Suddenly the Dr. suffix just adds authority and legitimacy!

I own one, only used it once. Takes way longer than the advertised 2-5 minutes, and gets messy as all hell with all the grease dripping about, plus it doesn't cook both sides well enough for you not to have to flip the sliders.

But at least it cooks sliders... I guess?

>>

no he doesn't. it's quite obvious why fat free was established as the primary method for weight control - fat has the most calories per gram of any nutrient. there are obviously other factors including vested commercial interests, but a retarded fairy tale 'once upon a time there were two scientists' abstraction helps no one.
