Has advertising ever made you crave a certain food?

I bet the only people who were offended were the ones who wanted KFC's twitter to randomly post porn.

Shame they backed out of it though
>>

So fucking weak.

I sometimes wonder why large well known companies (McD, Coca Cola, KFC) still advertise their restaurants in general. I mean i understand advertising new products, deals, or locations, but I don't go to Taco Bell because a commercial told me to, but because i know it's there, and what it has.
>>
>>7573697
Yeah man i feel the same about coca cola doing ads, just a waste of money imo.
>>
>>7573697
Because no major chain has ever stopped doing ads and even though they probably won't lose much, if any business, they have entire marketing departments screaming and shilling that of they pull ads they'll go down in flames.
>>
>>7573600
Are teenagers involved in this? How the fuck did they think they wouldn't get shit for that?
>>
>>7573697
Because mcdonalds, coke, and KFC are all losing money right now I believe
>>
>>7573697
For three reasons that I can imagine.

One: new products and/or new promotions. If you know about a new product or promotion offered by X-corp, you might wanna give it a try.

Two: keep their products in the public mind. If you're thinking about their product, even just for the split second when an advert caught your attention before you placed your mind on something else, you're more likely to go and get it rather than if you weren't thinking about it at all.

Three: immigrants don't necessarily know your products, even if they know your brand. While an immigrant would almost certainly know what a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with cheese are, they wouldn't necessarily know what Chicken Selects are or that McDonald's offers egg sandwiches in the morning. I know I had no idea about the egg sandwich thing before moving to the US because my country doesn't eat eggs or meat for breakfast at all. There, McDo sells fruit salad with yogurt and brioche with jam for breakfast. Also crêpes with fruit compote and whipped cream.

To be completely fair, whenever I see an ad on McDonald (However rare it is, since I don't really get exposed to those anymore), I still get that reminder that I want to go and have a bite there once in a while, even if it's a poor choice on my part.

So I guess the ad's effective in conjuring up the good ol' days and making me pay them money.

No.

>>

Lol. Didn't see that one coming! XD. So random!
>>
>>7573591
No, because most foods that advertise are not things I eat, plus I don't watch much TV to begin with.

But I did watch a documentary on the hot dog eating contest at Coney Island late at night and had to go out and get hot dogs at like 1AM.
>>
>>7573591
never conciously, but normally i hang out around food, so you could say that the images of food could make me hungry and eat, but the "advertisements" I find myself watching are all home cooking stuff, so yeah.

Coca Cola is very good at it. It's about making you not really think about it. Since you were a young child you have seen it in movies and everything. The colors of the can everything.

They also pay for it to be the in prime spots in super markets and make sure movie theaters and fast food places only sell their products.

Don't forget the signature noise the can makes when you open it, making people around get inspired like the Pavlovian mutts they are.

>>
>>7573697
> I don't go to Taco Bell because a commercial told me to, but because i know it's there, and what it has.

That's actually exactly why they continue to advertise.

The purpose of advertising is not to make you think "hey, I should run out and get that product!" That has never happened. The purpose of advertising is that when you happen to need such a product, theirs is the first one you think of.

>>7573734
>McDo
What the fuck is this? This is a French thing, right?
>>
>>7573697
The commercial didn't tell you to go, but it made you feel a certain way about it and associate certain things with it. Then when you walk in full of these ideas, you believe it's entirely your own decision even though you very likely would not have otherwise.

>>
>>7573697
>I sometimes wonder why large well known companies (McD, Coca Cola, KFC) still advertise their restaurants in general

Its basic advertising. You crave some fried chicken, the first thing they want you to think of is KFC. You crave a burrito, they want you to immediately think of Taco Bell.
You are in a hurry at the gas station and want a soda, first thing you think of is Coke so you grab it and run.

They have market share, advertising is the opportunity to keep it.

I think the only time that happened was an episode of the Closer where she was eating some Twizzlers. I had to run out to the gas station and buy some.

Other than that, no. Advertising doesn't work on me because I have a brain.
>>
>>7577522
Its fast food, its cheap

Not sure if you have ever been to a McDonalds drive through at noon.
There will be 20 cars in the 2 lane drivethrough, but it will take you less than 5 minutes from ordering food to actually getting it.

Its insane how fast, easy, and cheap it is.
>>
>>7577534
>Its insane how fast, easy, and cheap it is.

I've often been stuck for 10, 15 minutes even in a McD's drive-thru with only a few cars ahead of me. I'm not saying that always happens, but it's sure as hell not always fast.

>>cheap
No, not really. It's easily half the price if not less to make it yourself.
>>
>>7577540
>It's easily half the price

But thats simply not true, you would have to try real hard and get the absolute cheapest ingredients to get anywhere near close.

Sure its easy to make a much higher quality meal for still a relatively cheap price, but dont pretend you are going to outcheap McDonalds.
>>
>>7577551
And you'd take much more time trying to do so
>>
>>7577551
>But thats simply not true, you would have to try real hard and get the absolute cheapest ingredients to get anywhere near close.

Bullshit. I had this exact discussion with a Britbong on this very board last week. I went to the website of the only UK supermarket that I know the name of (Sainsbury's) and found the ingredients to make a McD's hamburger for 36p, while they cost 99p at the restaurant. That wasn't shopping around or taking advantage of sales. that was literally the first supermarket I checked. It's easy to outcheap McDonald's.

>>7577572
Though yeah, it does take more time than just ordering at the counter. I will freely admit that. Then again, we all have plenty of time, we just manage it poorly.
>>
>>7577594
>I went to the website of the only UK supermarket that I know the name of (Sainsbury's) and found the ingredients to make a McD's hamburger for 36p

Dont forget to mention you had to buy enough ingredients to eat burgers all fucking week though.
>>
>>7577650
And you had to make it yourself, not pick it up ready made on the way home from work.
>>
>>7573591
This guy was eating a brat a few tables away from me the other day and I got the most uncomfortable boner imagining his tight foreskin retracting as my tongue cleaned the dick cheese from his royal septar.

>I've traveled to 20 states, Canada, and Mexico and never once saw anyone remotely Native America looking or full blood Native American

What do you think hispanics are? Do you think they just got their unique orangish-brown skin out of thin air? Sure they're not pure-blooded but the majority of them have a good deal of native influence.
>>
>>7577390
Yes you are. If you think advertising has absolutely no influence on you, you're too stupid to notice what's actually going on in your brain.

i remember reading somewhere, it was probably total bullshit but whatever, that since you can't advertise tobacco anymore, tobacco companies are making more money than ever because they don't have to spend shitloads on ads.
>>
>>7573591
No, I do marketeering, so every damn commercial is what it is, a damn fuckin lie. Every commercial feels corny and looks foolish to me, I get visions of a fat balding smelly george costanza type sheister in a backroom having a brain fart and thinking the pig rapping about the McRib will be a huge hit.
>>
>>7573697
Yea ok dickhead, you're telling me your fat fuckin ass wont fly to a taco bell like a moth to a flame when you see shit like DORITOOOO TACOOOOOOOO SHEEEEELLS in big letters and another slob in the commercial biting into one, once you hear the crunch it's all over, like that crunch was a harpoon firing right into your side and dragging you in. The call to action hurry up limited time come now fat fuck before it's too late probably makes you run for the front door before the commercial s over.

I'm sorry.
