That was my dinner tonight actually, I get it from a small Italian restaurant. Not messy at all, all ingredients are perfectly ratio'd. Meaty, cheesy, saucy, bready, and somehow manages to be both crunchy and chewy at the same time. I know what you mean though, I've had a bunch of messy ones.

I really love grilled vegetable paninis.
Like, grilled eggplant, grilled onions, roasted red peppers, tomato, mozzarella, pesto, and maybe even some broccoli rabe, all on a nice hot pressed panini.
A restaurant I used to go to made one and I can still taste occasionally, it was so good.
