>>
>>7546568
Nah. You're factually wrong, you fucking cock. You're an ignorant, wannabe intellectual ass. Just because language changes over hundreds of years when coupled with massive changes like immigration influx and new technology, doesn't mean you can pronounce things incorrectly. It is WRONG. All it does is make you an unintelligible, babbling simp that everyone will ignore.
>>
>>7546501

Kill yourself.
>>
>>7546563
Maybe in English. In Greek, it's pronounced Koini as in Greek koinós+the language suffix -ini/-iki/-ika IE "common language." Generally identical in meaning as Dimotiki (IE "the public's language" from dimós+language suffix -ini/-iki/-ika; 'dimós' means 'the public').

Some people who speak Greek don't speak common Greek. We generally understand common Greek, but speaking it is another matter. And in the variety of Greek I grew up with, gamma is pronounced like the German CH-sound.

Speaking to a Greek, especially in Greece I'd pronounce it yeero. In the US I say gyro, maybe the cook in your case fused the two and came out with gee-roh or that's how he pronounced gyro, especially if he had a greek accent when speaking english.

At first glance it looks like jai-ro but my head tells me that's probably wrong since it's a foreign word so the next thing that pops up is gi-ro and then gear-o and then I say fuck it.

I can't make certain sounds with my American vocal cords. It sounds retard when I try to say certain Spanish or Japanese words. I find it endearing when foreign people mispronounce English words though.

I still can't roll my Rs.

Language has the sole purpose of communicating information. If two parties are pronouncing every word of the same language in such a way that neither can recognize the words of the other, then language is not working in that case. For spoken language to work the communicating parties must have a mutual understanding of the way the words sound. So if one of the parties pronounces all of the words so that they do not sound recognizable to someone who is familiar with the common sound of the words, then they are not speaking the same language. There are right and wrong ways to pronounce words, and that is contextual.

you wot mate?
Modern greek = Dimotiki = Koini
There is also the old "formal" form of greek that only 80+ year old people may use today. Additionally there are local variations in Greece based on region and Cyprus. And ofc ancient greek. In none of these variations have I ever heard of anyone pronouncing gamma as chi, which is what you're saying. Where the fuck did you grow up?
>>
>>7557781
I grew up speaking /some/ Katoitaliótika. I'm not fluent. While I can understand a bit of standard Greek, I can't carry a conversation in it without extreme effort. People who speak common Greek can't generally understand us at all. A millenium and a half or so of separation will do that.

The whole gamma/chi thing isn't in all words, just ones where the vowel directly after gamma is I or E.

AND we lost the -s ending on masculine nouns, which is why I said that it's Xyii-roh and not Xyii-rohs for us.

Does the Neapolitan dialect have any influence from Griko? Always wondered about this.
>>
>>7558268
Depends. There's the Neapolitan dialect of Italian, which is alive and well, and the Neapolitan dialect of Katoitaliótika, which only about 2000 people still speak. I don't know if Neapolitan Italian has a lot of influence from Greek, though it certainly does have at least some.

Insecure about being a Turkish rape baby?

Look, not even trolling, just fucking deal with it. Most Greeks are not "white" and you can't attribute your darkness to the sun. The Ottomans ruled Greece for many years and thus interracial births were a reality. Many Greeks today are olive skinned for a reason. There are few Greeks who still have fair skin and light eyes and stuff but just deal with it.
>>
In greek, it's pretty much somewhere in between "gee-roh" and "yee-roh". It's also important that the r is rolled.

That y-g sound doesn't really happen in English, which is why degenerates like Turks butcher the pronunciation.
