If you ever watch old US commercial breaks on YouTube from the 70s-90s, McDonalds ads were everywhere; ESPECIALLY on Saturday morning cartoon blocks. It's fucking nauseating.

I can't tell if this ad is designed to actually appeal to black people or ironically appeal to black people.

This chick is channeling a great porn voice

Although maybe it's designed to ironically appeal to white people.

>It's fucking nauseating.
Then why YouTube it?
>>
>>7545354
They're scattered throughout vintage commercial breaks; I'd avoid it if I could. You also need to work on your reading comprehension.
>>
>>7545357

No, why watch vintage commercial breaks at all? Doubly so if some of them are nauseating?
>>
>>7545359
I watch old commercials for nostalgic reasons but I didn't expect to see so much fucking McDonald's ads.

I think you mean, "Afro-Americans," son. This ain't Jim Crown 1950's south.

It's actually People of Color now. Not to be confused with Colored People, because that's different!

Check your privilege.

As part of selling themselves as a clean, wholesome family-oriented restaurant McDonald's has targeted children for a long time. They had colorful mascots in the 60's and 70's: Mayor McCheese, Grimace, Hamburgular, Big Mac and of course Ronald McDonald. When those started to seem dated they switched up to Happy Meals with free toys. Plus they introduced the McNugget - a product that could not have been more squarely aimed at children. And the fucking Playplaces.

This wasn't seen as egregious because McDonald's was seen as a special thing - a way to give mom a break and the kids a treat at the same time. A place to eat on that family road trip vacation. I don't think people started seeing it as an everyday thing until the Value Menu was introduced. That's where it became much more suspect.

Vintage food ad thread?

How do they have appetites if they just smoked some good Crack though? :(

The thing is though - back in the day McD's was actually GOOD. Most people will scoff at the notion, and I'll probably get a dozen posts with people claiming I'm full of shit or wearing nostalgia goggles.

But back when they actually produced good food, and didn't cheap out on everything.

When they only had about 10 things on the menu so the overall quality could be better.

Back before they screwed everything up trying to be 'healthy' McDonalds was actually worth it.

I mean I'm not trying to claim it was mana from heaven or anything like that, but I ate McDonalds semi-regularly through most of my early life, and some time around the late 80's, early 90's their quality started to take a big nose dive. And nowadays they have this (well-deserved) reputation as serving nothing but shit. Now I can honestly say I've been to McDonalds maybe 10 times in the last 10 years. And it's usually when I'm stuck somewhere like an Airport, or on a road trip where nothing else is open in the area.

So when people on here talk about McDonalds being shit, they're probably not old enough to remember when it was halfway decent, or even good. That's how far they've fallen.

And yes, I am a fatass... So fat I've got more chins than a Chinese phone book. So fat my toilet paper says Bounty on the wrapper. So fat my ass looks like I'm smuggling illegal aliens through customs. Yadda yadda yadda. But I know my fast food.

There you go, let it out. The truth is it never was that good except for the fries. I remember 70's McDonald's from my childhood. The fries were a novelty. There was no way your mother could make anything like that. The sandwiches less so - those burgers went from delicious to disgusting in three bites. Then their desserts? A deep fried apple pie sounds exciting until you taste one after a McDonald's meal, when it tastes like shit because it is shit.

So what is left as the allure? You really appreciated the balance of the Big Mac? The Quarter Pounder was a decent burger for you? The balance of flavors on the cheeseburger made sense, between the ketchup, flavorless mustard, onions and pickles?

The balance of flavors is actually classic. It's just the quality of the food that undermines things.

When you insist on making the cheapest food possible you're hard pressed to make something good. McDonald's has never cared about making good food. They just found a way to make delicious fries no one without an industrial kitchen could make, Then they stopped doing it. So now they just suck.

Sure there was. Your mom just didn't know how, or if she did know she didn't bother.
