I've tasted both and I prefer Vegemite.
In small doses on hot buttered toast, it's delicious.
Shit on the other hand doesn't taste how it smells, it's kind of a weak vinegary taste that is overly bitter - really hard to describe.
That being said, I haven't tried shit lightly spread on hot buttered toast so...

As an americuck, I have tried all three and Australia Vegemite. I like NZ Marmite the most, followed by Vegemite, then UK Marmite and finally export Marmite.
