This is a board dedicated to the scientific exploration of what is and is not a sandwich, and you can't even comprehend the basics?

sandwiches are lunch food, lunch is usually light

Plenty of popular sandwiches are commonly referred to by their specific names: hot dog, Reuben, Hot Brown, burger, wraps, Sloppy Joe, banh mi, panini, felafel. Then there sandwiches that don't really have words in English to properly describe them, like a tartine.

That doesn't mean these things aren't sandwiches.

If it comes wrapped in bread it is. On a plate it isn't. And predicting where you're heading with this whether or not a taco is a sandwich depends on whether you consider tortillas to be bread. Flour tortillas are pretty clearly bread, but corn tortillas one could be on the fence about. The further away you get from English and French cuisines the more ambiguous sandwiches become. A Chinese pork bun may not qualify, but the Taiwan style bao sandwiches Eddie Huang peddles clearly are.

Oxford also includes the term "light meal" in their definition, eurofat.

is an open faced sandwich a sandwich?

Pizza is a pie, you fool
>>
>>7521819
Tough call with pizza, because the dough is baked with the toppings on it, whereas on a sandwich the bread is baked first, then the toppings are put on it. If you accept that as part of what makes a sandwich a pizza is a type of flatbread, not a sandwich.
>>
>>7521821
It's the original term for a Hamburger, I don't know what it would be in German though.
>>
>>7521826
pita and tortillas are flatbread, are gyros and tacos not a sandwich?
if I eat food by pinching it between lavash is that a small sandwich?
>>7521830

>>

>open faced sandwich
It's a clunky construction in English, because we don't have the word tartine. But since "sandwich" is part of the construction "open faced sandwich" I guess it has to be considered such.
>>
>>7521824
And a pie is a type of sandwich.
>>
>>7521838
Placing the food in the cooked flatbread makes it a kind of sandwich. Cooking the flatbread with a topping is not. So scooping a salad into a fold of flatbread is making a flatbread sandwich. But pizza, zatar bread, khachapuri and lamacun are simply flatbread, because they're cooked with the toppings on them. Of course you could go crazy and make sandwiches using them.

grilled cheese isn't a sandwich?
>>
>>7521926
The bread is already cooked. You're just toasting/charring it for a grilled cheese.
