Most food shows that tour all over different places only require the host to get a couple of bites of food in for the shot. After that, they can stop and the crew can quickly pack up for the next shot or location.
You should wonder more about Adam Richman's case back then. For Man vs Food, he had a treadmill in his trailer where he would work out for hours on end during drives from location to location and sometimes he wouldn't eat the day before a shoot to prep for the eating competition portion of the show. At the end of it all, he earned a lot of weight and got depressed at one point.
