Any experience with dulse /ck/? I started buying it a few months ago and it's just great. Perfect balance of salty ocean goodness and it is pretty good for you. It's salty but most of that flavor is potassium and it is a great addition to soups, or you can eat it straight up. It's also amazing with stirfry.
This stuff is awesome, but I last saw it for around $6-$7 a bag, which makes it something that I'll only have very occasionally.
It's kind of like beef jerky in the sense that it packs well, and just the process of eating it can be an interesting way to kill some time while doing something else.

If you can find cheap flank steak and are willing to wait a week, curing your own beef and making jerky is super rewarding. Supermarket stuff is expensive as fuck but I can find flank steak at the butcher's for 8-9$ a pound, tops.

I only ever really enjoyed it on it's own. Trying to actually use it in anything just ruined the dish I put it in. It's got a strong marine flavour that doesn't seem to fit anywhere for me.
Getting really fresh dulse is something else though. It almost melts in your mouth. It can be hard to come by unless you're close to the Atlantic, but my god is it ever delicious when really fresh
Thank you for this thread. I never knew this was edible. Scuba diving I see this plant often. Gems like this are why I come to /ck/. Does anyone know if this is good raw or should it be cooked? I'm going to pick some tomorrow.
