I was at this real nice mom n pop restaurant that has been serving some of the most incredible Greek food I've ever tasted since the mid 1970's. It's a definite family owned place, the family I believe is originally from Crete and a lot of the recipes have been passed down from their great grandparents and so on. These were the rudest people I've ever seen. They would cut off the waitress when she was pouring them water and they were like "I didn't ask you to pour the water" in an incredibly bitchy tone. They would gossip about her when she wasn't at the table and when she came back to get their orders they were insulting her or complimenting her in an obvious sarcastic tone. It got so bad that you could tell this poor girl was on the verge of tears and the manager actually kicked them out. I felt so sorry for the poor girl I actually left her a 25% tip and talked to her when she was done her shift. I hate trash like those people. Fucking scumbags come into the city from some shitty poor town an hour and a half away and can't put down the alcohol for 2 fucking seconds. God damn trash.

I just think that stiffing waiters and waitresses on tips is a scumbag thing to do. You realize that if there wasn't tipping in the restaurant industry and everyone was on salary, the prices of food and drinks would rise to compensate for it and you'd still end up paying the same amount anyway, right?

Waitstaff is accountable for doing their job now, even more so than if they were on salary since their salary is directly linked to the level of service they provide.
I'm also not talking about tipping for shitty service. You shouldn't tip for shitty service since at that point, they are not providing the expected level of service and shouldn't get paid for not doing their job.

I don't even remember how the night ended because I wanted to leave so bad. I know the waitress was busy but she probably didn't like seeing a group of teenagers sit in her section thinking we weren't going to tip.
I once got in an argument with my brother's new girlfriend because she was bitching about waitressing during Homecoming and Prom season. Teenagers come in large groups, stay for two hours and tip extremely poorly. I told her to get a new job if she didn't like it. Apparently that's not something you say to a career waitress. You have to SYMPATHIZE with them.
